Title: Getting kicked out of the forum...

pImMy - October 4, 2003 11:52 PM (GMT)
I'm just wondering... Can a person get kicked out of the forum? I know we members don't have any authorization for that but do you (Scott and Lily)? And what's your policy on that? I'm asking because there's a certain member that was posting some unpleasant comments.. not that I want that person to be kicked out but just asking if there's a possibility for misbehave members..

Sure. That's what Admins have a banning feature (or several of them, depending on the particular message board) for.

Scottie said to someone that if they didn't want to be here, then they could leave before he "showed them the way out".

pImMy ~ if you find a post which you think is inappropriate for this Forum, you can either click on the Report Button (the one with the yellow exclamation mark) and that will automatically send Scott and I a copy of that reported post.
--Or actually, even better, send either Scott or myself a PM about the member and we will see what we think should happen.

Like PsionicDude said, Yes ~ we can ban members (though that's only if their offense is *very* serious) but most of the time we suspend members for a few days... and hope that they don't repeat it again... :)

just being curious.... if such a person was banned.... they can re-register & just get a new username right? or does IP addresses come into it?

I believe an IP ban is possible, though I haven't tried it myself.

Besides, we only have a hundred or so users to sift through. Manual banning isn't such a problem, and it's not like anyone would bother going to that trouble.

You'd be surprised how much I've seen.

Anyway, it seems like a user has already been kicked out. Hope he/she's having fun.

Yeah, Scottie was a moderator at a huge message board with hundreds of thousands of members. He's seen it all, pretty much. B)
