Title: Banners
PsionicDude - October 2, 2003 04:08 AM (GMT)
Hi, Scottie.
Would you like me to make a banner, PD-style, for your forums?
Or does Lily handle that stuff?
(Btw, the current one is awesome, I'm not suggesting that it be replaced. Just wondering if you'd like a backup, or maybe a joke banner. ;) B) )
Lily - October 2, 2003 04:50 AM (GMT)
...don't take this the wrong way PsionicDude, but are you a JC fan or are you just somehow associated with Scott?!

Would you believe that I was a JCF fan in training? ^_^
Actually, yes, I know Scottie from GameFAQs, and from another Invision board. B)
How did he and you come to be working together on this site?
Lily - October 2, 2003 05:00 AM (GMT)
...well then are you at least a *tennis* fan?! LOL ...ah well guess it wouldn't hurt to have another non-biased participant in this forum... ^_^
(but seriously, why are you here...??)
See the thing is... I think Scottie tells the story a lot better, so perhaps we shall wait until he emerges.
Where are you from btw?

I like tennis, and I play it for fun and watch it on TV occasionally... but I don't think I would be considered a real fan like the people here.
I'm here because...
because....
...Good question!
I'm here because Scottie had mentioned awhile ago that he was an admin on a Tennis fan message board, and I had been curious. Just tonight, he posted a link to a particular topic, so I decided to check it out... and here I am! ^_^
I met Scottie on the Lord of the Rings board at GameFAQs. I'm one of the most prominent members there.
The Invision board I mentioned is The Isle of Numenor, which Scottie also admins. I'm the most active member on that board. :D
As for where I'm from...
Well community-wise, I just told you.
Location-wise... my profile says "Under your bed", but I guess that just goes to show that profiles can't always be trusted... or can they?
And as for real-world location, I'm a proud Canadian. :)
Lily - October 2, 2003 11:41 AM (GMT)
Well it's nice to have you here... um, what is your REAL name?
Why am I not surprised to hear that you know Scott through some game related...thing. I suppose he was asking you to check out the 9/11 thread?
Canadian hey... it's nice to hear that you at least have some vague interest tennis (unlike Scott)... ^_^
Scottie_theNerd - October 2, 2003 12:10 PM (GMT)
For a moment, I thought I was on the wrong forum.
Glad to have on board, PsionicDude. At least you're more welcome here until the storm blows over on Isle of Numenor. Thanks for the offer on banners, but I think we'll stick to the regular banner, PD-style is considered bad taste here =P
(run, run while you can!)

Hm.
It's either Jennifer or Kevin. You decide. My gender is an ambiguous, unresolved issue on the boards I go to, since I haven't told the absolute truth to anyone but one person. Everybody just calls me PsionicDude or "PD" anyways, so I don't really need a first name.
Sorry if you find this rude, it's just that I don't want to have retained a persona on other boards for more than a year, only to suddenly reveal everything upon coming to another forum where the same people could easily go.

Yes, GameFAQs is one of the largest gaming communities on the internet, and Scottie was a Moderator there before he quit.
Scottie posted a link to the 9/11 topic when I sorta asked what he was up to these days.

So, Scottie... how did you come to work on a JCF/Tennis fan board?

Well, by "PD-style", I didn't mean like the one at ION. I just meant "made by PD".
What we have on ION is what I call a "joke banner". Hence, the question: whether you'd like a backup (normal banner), or a joke banner.
Contrary to popular belief, I can make serious banners. :P
The six initial ones I made for ION, for example. (Back before you guys told me the banner could be bigger than the button, so I was working under insanely strict size constraints. Like 120x57 pixels or something. >_< )
Scottie_theNerd - October 2, 2003 02:29 PM (GMT)
Indeed, I've seen your works (even though half the time your server denied access to them). Impressive, but I think Lily knows what she's doing =/

Sure, I understand.

What the?! What was that exchange supposed to mean?!
PD ~ could you post one of banners here (or perhaps one serious and one joke) so that I can see what you two are rambling about?
And also, the URL to the ION Forum would be nice too... ^_^
PsionicDude - October 3, 2003 12:59 AM (GMT)
The Isle of Numenor
http://www.invisionfree.com/forums/the_isle_of_numenorOne serious banner that I made.
Note that it's tiny and, thus, relatively ugly-quality. I had to reduce the pics to
this, from more than a thousand pixels tall and wide! >_<
This is because I made the exact same size as that "Invision Power Board" button that used to be at the top-left corner of boards by default.
Numenor and Scottie had never bothered to inform me that we could have a banner that was bigger than that. :P

PsionicDude - October 3, 2003 01:01 AM (GMT)
#3
Please note that this is mostly a Lord of the Rings/JRR Tolkien-related board.
PsionicDude - October 3, 2003 01:02 AM (GMT)
PsionicDude - October 3, 2003 01:03 AM (GMT)
#5
Sorry for the multiple posts, but I'm limited to one attachment/post. :(
PsionicDude - October 3, 2003 01:06 AM (GMT)
#6
Edit: Weird. the thumbnail shows the same image as #5, but the pic itself is alright.
PsionicDude - October 3, 2003 01:08 AM (GMT)
And now the joke banner
(Btw, the design on the sail is actually more detailed than you can see with the naked eye, and is modeled after a ship from a Tolkien painting. An artsy twist to a ridiculous picture.
Edit: I just realized, the ship appears in my pic #3 and #4, actually. The actual full size pics are a lot nicer though. :P :D

He said that what he had seen of my work was impressive, but that you guys don't need help since you're very skilled yourself.
I acknowledged that.
Lily - October 3, 2003 01:42 AM (GMT)
Very nice. Tiny, but good work. :) (sorry, I'm on 1280x1024 res. here)
...I don't know how well a joke banner would go down with the people on this forum though...*lol*

I understand perfectly... I'm on 1152x864 here, and my fridge's monitor is at 1280x1024 as well.
The tiny size restrictions and weird ratio made it challenging. I had to chop so much out!
Plus the paintings I made them out of become extremely muddy when reduced that much. (They're actually bigger than wallpaper size! :o ) I had to struggle to keep the elements of the picture visible.

love your work PsionicDude, they are awesome. How do you guys know how to make these cool stuff anyway? where do you learn it from? I really like all these banners. And lily, you make the best wallpapers. I have them changed automatically on my computer every 30 minutes. They are so great. keep up with the work :D

Thanks a lot! :D
I made these banners using Windows MS Paint (!) and Adobe Photoshop.
Photoshop is the best or one of the best graphic editing programs available. :)
I taught myself how to use it last year. I was the Chief Editor of my high school's Yearbook Committee, so I had lots of cool resources at my disposal and experimented a lot with photo editing. B)

<blush> awwwww thanx for your kind words pImMy! :)
--if you don't mind me asking, which one would you consider as your favourite?
oOh and if you're interested in making wallpapers of your own, please do as people *love* to see new wallpapers!! :D
I also use Adobe Photoshop ~ I've been using Photoshop 5.5 for a year or so now and I got Scott to send me Photoshop 7 ...but *damn* after a few tries, I've converted back to 5.5...
pImMy - October 3, 2003 02:40 AM (GMT)
my favorite one? mmm.. that's tricky.. I like them all, that's why I have them changed frequently. I'd say it's a tie between

and

coz blue is my favorite color and I like those one with lots of pics in them. they make me feel like JC's everywhere :D
Thanks for the invitation for making wallpapers but I'm not very artistic so it'll take me like forever to make one.. I guess I could try
Scottie_theNerd - October 3, 2003 08:57 AM (GMT)
I never saw any reason to believe that banners could only be button-sized...
Lily - October 3, 2003 10:02 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the feedback pImMy. :) The one on the left (with the glass-like background) is one of my favourites too! I think blue works well with JC... ;)
mackenzie - October 3, 2003 06:47 PM (GMT)
I love your wallpapers too Lily! Unfortunatley my mom only lets me use dark colored ones, but I love the Loose Yourself one, one of my favorite songs with one one my favorite guys!

You guys didn't say it was a banner. You just said that you wanted to replace that "ugly invision button" at the top, so I naturally measured the actual image and made buttons to suit.

oOh thank you mackenzie! :) ...the "Lose Yourself" wallpaper is *definately* another one of my favourites! It's like the only really dark one I've done (and I remember I was in a particularly stormy day...). In fact, I didn't really even create it for the site, I was just going to keep it to myself, but then a friend of mine saw it and said that I HAD to share it! LOL :P
--But thank you for your kind comment! I've had very mixed feedback about that one! ^_^
...and btw, why are you only allowed to use dark coloured wallpapers??
Scottie_theNerd - October 4, 2003 04:32 AM (GMT)
That was probably Numenor. I came in half way through and was wondering why your 'banners' were so small. If I were you, I'd be just as confused.
