Title: Do the Democrats stand a chance in '04?

Just 2 1/2 years into Republican President Bush's term and he as a President has already seen more challenges in that span of time then a President in an entire 4 or 8 year term. For the first time since 1941, a President had to deal with a major attack on the United States, 2 wars in 2 separate countries and a growing deficit soaring to biblical proportions.

However his opponents The Democrats are currently working in their bid to unseat him. In a recent poll, Senator John Kerry is 36% in terms of popularity to the country to President Bush's 45%, Governors Howard Dean and Bob Graham just trail by a few points. The war with Iraq and the busted economy affect all candidates equally.

In a recent poll, most Americans see that President Bush and the Republicans are much better than the democrats at handling the war. However, in that same poll, most Americans think the Democrats handle the economy alot better than President Bush. This is why President Bush's re-election campaign is not as explosive as people thought, the economy with a large deficit that most likely will not go away unless drastic measures are taken. The American people approve of Bush's handling of the war in Iraq, but dont see him handling the economy very well. This is the reason why the election might be in the air again and could go to either side. Unless President Bush can take measures to breathe life into a fleeting economy, then his re-election campaign maybe in jeopardy.

I doubt it unless Al Gore runs. Gore is currently leading the New Hampshire Primary; but he said he didnt want to run, but I think Gore's decision not to run is a smart one but at the same time, it's a stupid one as well.

Bush is not having a good term at all, the unemployment is up, the jobless ratings are surely up. Nearly, 300,000 jobs have been lost since the start of the year, people are being layed off left and right, nows not a good time to buy a house and we're having recessions rearing their ugly heads. I dont think rebate checks will do the deal, they're just going to be with the spender a short time until they spend it on retail; what we really need is reform in terms of Automotive and Aerospace. Now would be a good time for Al Gore to jump in especially with how close the Florida Election was in a good economy, if Gore does jump in now with a sagging economy, he's sure to take the election away from George Bush. However if the economy does recover and Gore tries to run but is beaten, then he's spent lots of funds campaigning for a lost cause; but I dont see the economy recovering that much just in time for next year's election, so now would be a good time for Gore to run for President.

I agree about Al Gore, I also think he's their best shot to make the White House. These rumors couldnt have come at a better time; we have all this trading of words between Howard Dean and John Kerry over "who's the real democrat". I would think if Gore cannot run, Liebermann would be the primary choice for the democratic nomination; he's the most conservative out of all candidates.... he has the most integrity and knows the issues, it's still a tough choice, all the candidates seem to make great points on the issues; in the coming weeks we should see the polls shift from candidate to candidate.

I dont think America would elect someone as far left as Mr. Dean. Howard Dean wants to take out all of Bush's tax cuts, by doing that, we'll see tax hikes, the advancement of gay life and the removal of all security in our society. I dont really see a position change in Dennis Kucinich or Al Sharpton, the two men who have less than a chance in hell of getting even 2% of the pollster's mercy. The Dems need Al Gore, he has experience with putting together fundraisers, knows how to put together town halls and appearances. The polls I'm seeing have him taking lots of votes from the other candidates like Lieberman, Dean, Kerry, Edwards and Graham. I dont think it'll be too long before he puts his hat into the race, he's obviously more known within the American public than the rest of the candidates are.[

I agree that Gore is the only chance the Dem's have. At the start of this year, I thought that George was going to be unbeatable. As time has gone on, he's becoming more and more volnerable. As the economy gets worse and worse George is going to have a real tight race come next November...

I think we have to note that the reason why Gore lost in 04 is that Clinton stunk up the oval office with his scandal with Lewinsky. I think Al Gore had that election locked, he had the economy going his way, he just lost because he never really distanced himself from Clinton.
