Title: Young Talent Looking for Opportunity

BillyOsta - February 14, 2005 01:47 AM (GMT)
I am nineteen years old and I currently race DIRT Modifieds in Upstate New York. This past season I became the youngest winner in history, in the BigBlock Modifieds(800+ hp.) at the age of eighteen, in only my sixth start. My dream is to pursue racing and continue the hike up the ladder. I am a sophmore in college studying Mortuary Science. If I do not make it in racing, that's what I fall back on. I am looking to get asphalt experience, an audition, and have someone teach me and develop my skills. I am very determined and willing to do anything it takes to make this dream a reality, but I just need some help getting me there. Thanks for your time. Take care and good luck.

--From 2001 to 2003 Billy competed in the DIRT Sportsman Division. He competed at the Fonda Raceway, The Orange County Fair Speedway, New York State Fairgrounds and the Rolling Wheels Raceway. OSTA IS DECLARED FONDA'S YOUNGEST MOD WINNER

Rotterdam, NY – At the age of 18, Modified Rookie Billy "The Kid" Osta has officially been declared the youngest Modified Feature Winner in Fonda Speedway history. Although Osta is rookie to the Modified division, he is practically a veteran of the sport of auto racing after spending three seasons in the Sportsman division and two years before that in go-karts.
Last Saturday night Osta made headlines when he beat out six time Track Champion Dave Lape for his first win at the "Track of Champions." Billy "The Kid" collected several qualifier wins while racing with the Sportsman but never the feature. Now in 2004, just six races into his Modified career "The Kid" runs away with the feature, leaving veteran Dave Lape to settle for second place.
Before Saturday night, Jimmy Horton was the youngest Modified winner at Fonda at the age of 19 in May of 1977. There was also some question of the age of Paul Brozyna when he won in 1953 and Bobby Ensminger Jr. at the time of his win in 1988. But, after careful fact checking it is not possible that either one of those drivers was under the age of 19. That clearly leaves the title in Osta’s hands.

Information was obtained using facts from the book Fonda!, the 1991 Fonda Speedway Program and the wisdom and records of Ed Biittig, Andy Fusco, Lew Boyd and Kim Hart.
