Title: Bug Reports

Ashlee Sully - June 30, 2003 10:23 PM (GMT)
HPU Members,

If you find any bugs within the site, please post them here and I will see to them as soon as I can. Your post will be deleted when the problem has been addressed. Thankyou.

Ashlee

Amatae Tylar - September 18, 2003 05:55 AM (GMT)
My Inbox shows 0 messages, but it also tells me that my inbox is 98% full. All my storage folders are empty, and the messages I archived I deleted. I can only get one message in my inbox without it telling me it's full. Any suggestions?
 :help:

Ashlee Sully - September 18, 2003 06:05 AM (GMT)
Okay. Try this. Go into your inbox and where it says, "Jump to Folder" click on "Sent Items" and go there. You'll probably find that you'll have alot of messages sitting in there, remember to delete that periodically.

If that doesnt work, post back here and I'll look into it for you. But I am guessing, and hoping, its just alot of messages stored in your saved folder.

Ashlee

Amatae Tylar - September 18, 2003 06:32 AM (GMT)
I tried that actually several times, and to no avail. It still shows that it's maxed out. Out of curiousity, would you be able to wipe out my character and then re-register it? If that is possible, would I lose my posting #'s and stuff?

Prof. Feronia Ardantane - September 18, 2003 08:12 AM (GMT)
We could do that, but yes, you would loose your post count.

Have you looked under 'Edit storage folders' ? This will tell you of any folders other than sent and inbox that may have messages stored in them.

Also try clicking on the 'Empty PM Folders' link in the right hand side menu. That should delete everything, even though it dosen't....

Also you changed your name, so old PMs may not be showing up for the new name, therefore you'd have invisable PMs....

I, Ashle or Bree will pop onto the invisionfree site later and ask them whats up if nothing works.

Amatae Tylar - September 18, 2003 04:33 PM (GMT)
*pout* Well, I don't know if I want to lose my post count.

I tried the Empty PM folder several times and still nothing. I went to the Edit PM Folders and it didn't show any of the folders having anything in them. I actually archived them and after a couple of attempts, it let me delete them after choosing not to the first time.

I didn't think about my old name having resident PM's that could be horking up the works. Is there a way to remove them without doing any damage to my current account?

Thanks again!!!

Prof. Feronia Ardantane - September 18, 2003 09:16 PM (GMT)
Hmmm.... I can not see anything, but either I, Ashlee or Bree will contact the invisionfree team today and see if they have any suggestions.

Back soon with news, hopefully!

Amatae Tylar - September 19, 2003 05:18 AM (GMT)
I just hope that there is some way to keep my post count if it comes to deleting and recreating my account. I have no ideas either on what to do next. So I will anxiously await any news!!

And Professor Ardantane, you need to post in your Herbology class. Your students are getting restless!

Prof. Feronia Ardantane - September 19, 2003 10:50 AM (GMT)
Well, I posted on the invision support board and the bug has been varified. I am unsure as to what will happen with it now, but we can leave it a few days to see if they are going to do anything with it, and if not we will chat to you and come to some kind of decision!

And I am going to Herbology now!

xx
Fe

Ashlee Sully - September 20, 2003 12:12 AM (GMT)
You can keep your post count if I create a new account for you. There is no problem with that whatsoever. I checked the InvisionFree site a few seconds ago and the bug hasnt been fixed yet, its still in the verified section. If you dont want to wait for them, let me know and I'll create you a new account, emailing your password and such to you.

Ashlee

Amatae Tylar - September 20, 2003 02:12 AM (GMT)
Yeah, that would be great. I really, really appreciate it. Oh, I have a question. Will I have to redo my character description, or will that stay intact?

Thanks!!!!

Ashlee Sully - September 20, 2003 05:16 AM (GMT)
That will stay intact. You dont have to worry about anything. The only thing that you'll have to re-do is your signature and avatar. Your member joining date is pretty much the only thing that will change. I'll email you soon.

Ashlee

Amatae Tylar - September 20, 2003 05:38 PM (GMT)
Thanks Ashlee!!

Everything is fixed now. :)

Jack Hollands - October 9, 2003 06:06 AM (GMT)
Er, just to let you know, it's not TOO important, but I can't see ANY images on the site at all.

Prof. Breena Brightheart - October 9, 2003 07:25 AM (GMT)
Yes, this is apparently an invisionfree-wide problem.

Ashlee and/or Fe: I've checked out the invisionfree forums to see if there's any postings about it, and so far no Admins at the forum have responded. Someone's suggested changing the image URLs to something else, but I'm thinking since it's a server-side problem, it should be cleared up once they're back online today.

I'm PMing you two with the link for the thread I found regarding the matter, so you can keep an eye on it as well.

[EDIT: Okay, I've gotten the main images back up and running now. However, the emoticons and (most likely) any uploaded avatars will still not work because we don't have a clear way to change those particular image URLs in the Admin CP.

The invisionfree people are supposedly working on this problem, though, so hopefully it won't be like this for long. If you have an uploaded avatar, and do not wish to wait for them to fix the problem, you'll have to find someone to host the image for you until the problem is solved. ]

Kievan Tao Ordlay - October 9, 2003 08:17 PM (GMT)
Sorry to be a bother - this could my computer on my internet but i thought i should check here anyway.

Roughly since invisionfree did their upgrading or whatever ive lost the ability to log-in when using my AOL browser. I type in my user name and password all corretly and it says ive logged in, once that screen goes it takes me back to a guest view (adding my name to the active user list though) and i cant do anything other than guest functions.

Im now using my IE browser to view the site and this logs me in HOWEVER i cant enter pw protected areas with my IE....it takes the password, says im accepted then asks for the password all over again - in every pw area i have access to....

oh and one more thing *slaps ashlee on head with newspaper* that on was a green fly.

Ashlee Sully - October 9, 2003 08:43 PM (GMT)
*frowns* How rude, slapping me on the head

For your problem, you can always try this. I had the same problem at a different forum and this was the only way to fix it, unless there is something wrong with InvisionFree but I'm not experiencing the same thing.

Go to your Internet Options through the tools bar, then click on "Privacy", what setting have you got it on? High? Medium High? Low?

I was told to set it to "Low" on the other forum and that seemed to fix any problems I was having, try that and let me know if it works. If not, I can't help you.

Astraea Candidus - January 25, 2004 11:36 PM (GMT)
I know this is most likely just me and my internet incompetence, but I can't seem to get any of my images to behave.

The site won't let me put my avatar up (keeps on giving me an error message), and when I do finally coerce it, the avvie never shows. And I have an image in my signature, too, that doesn't want to appear.

I think it might have something to do with the the site that my avvie and such are on, but again, that's only a vague guess from someone who knows not what they do.

Ashlee Sully - January 26, 2004 01:23 AM (GMT)
What site are you using to host the pictures? I use PhotoBucket.com and I haven't found any problems with images not showing up so far. Upload both of your images there and try doing it that way, if it doesn't work, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Astraea Candidus - January 29, 2004 11:46 PM (GMT)
Yay! That worked exellently (as you can now see, hopefully ^.^). Thanks.
*pets Ashlee fondly*

Jamie Son - March 15, 2004 09:04 PM (GMT)
every time i click on my name or any one else to see their member stuff it says

Sorry, but you do not have permission to use this feature. If you are not logged in, you may do so using the form below if available.

but i am loged in???

Eavend Lunarius - March 15, 2004 11:06 PM (GMT)
I think it's because you haven't been sorted yet.

Jamie Son - March 15, 2004 11:24 PM (GMT)
yeah it must be cos if im loged out i can see them so chears cant wait to be sorted :euro:

Ashlee Sully - March 16, 2004 08:16 AM (GMT)
I have to track down your sorting, I deleted it. >_<

Umm, yes, its the usergroup you're in. It restricts alot of things.

Jamie Son - March 16, 2004 09:18 AM (GMT)
could i get in to Slytherin pritty please

Prof. Feronia Ardantane - March 16, 2004 11:35 AM (GMT)
Only if your sorting puts you in Slytherin though even if you do get into my house with grammer such as yours you will not be there long.

Prof. Rikhard Finn - August 8, 2004 09:56 PM (GMT)
I seem to be having the same type of problem that Amatea had a long time ago, I don't see any messages on my Inbox but it keeps saying that my messenger is full. Everywhere else where I look says that I have only one PM stored.

What should I do?

~Khar~

Prof. Breena Brightheart - August 8, 2004 10:16 PM (GMT)
Okay, did you do all of the things that Fe and Ashlee suggested to Amatae at that time, too? Also, you could try going to "Archive Messages" then make your selections from the drop-down menus as follows:

All Folders
365 days and newer (the "all" option there isn't really reliable)
50
Yes
HTML page

Then click Process, and see what that does.

If it doesn't work (and you've tried all of the other stuff that Fe and Ashlee had recommended back when Ama had the problem), just post here again, and I'll send a Support Ticket to IF to let them fix it. ^^

Thankies!

Prof. Rikhard Finn - August 26, 2004 05:00 AM (GMT)
Eh... trust me to forget this whole thing... Well, I did try everything, and now the inbox has room for one message. At least I have some room there, but it seems that you have to contact the Support on this matter.

~Khar~

Prof. Breena Brightheart - August 26, 2004 11:23 AM (GMT)
Oh, that's okay. ^_^ I'm not sure if our scheduled offline time will be a hinderance to Invisionfree when they try to fix the problem, so I'll wait and send the Support Ticket first thing when we come back online.

Just to remind you, the offline time starts tonight (August 26) at midnight EST, and runs until August 31 at midnight EST. ^_^ In the past, it's usually only taken IF a day or two to address and resolve a matter via Support Ticket. So by next weekend at the latest, the problem should be fixed. *nods*

Um... other than that, I can only recommend that everyone please e-mail Prof. Finn if you need to correspond with him--at least until one of us marks this thread to reflect that the matter has been resolved.

My apologies for any inconvenience this will cause! *huggles*

Prof. Alyson Hill - September 20, 2004 01:23 AM (GMT)
Does anyone else have issues with getting the board to remeber your login? It seems like no matter how many times I log in, I can't get the darn thing to remember it for the next time.

Astraea Candidus - September 20, 2004 08:11 PM (GMT)
Do you use the quick login all the time? If so, try the long version (click "login" at the top of the page), and select "remember me."

If that doesn't work, take a look at your browser settings. It may have something to do with your cookies or page memory thingum. (That's a technical term, mind.)

Prof. Alyson Hill - September 21, 2004 03:21 AM (GMT)
Yes, I have tried using the long login...this is where the problem happens. Even though I tell it to remember me, it doesn't. As far as I know my cookie settings are normal, as I do not experience this problem with any other website requiring login.

Ashlee Sully - September 21, 2004 11:20 PM (GMT)
What are your cookies set too? In the privacy tab of your internet options, try selecting something below medium, if you haven't already. I find that settings above that prevent forums from remembering me.

If that doesn't work, I can't help you.

Prof. Alyson Hill - September 22, 2004 06:10 AM (GMT)
My privacy was on "Medium," so I set it to "Low" just to see if it helps. Thanks!

Prof. Alyson Hill - September 24, 2004 05:17 AM (GMT)
No luck

Prof. Breena Brightheart - September 24, 2004 07:53 AM (GMT)
Are you using AOL? Seems like there was something about AOL people having problems like this, but if you aren't, then I very few ideas to offer aside from those given above.

Do you have a 'Net security program or anything like that (not necessarily a firewall, though that should probably be checked, too, if you do)? I have one, and when it's actually turned on, it automatically deletes cookies when I close my browser window.

Along those same lines, you could poke around in your browser's Options and see if there's anything about deleting cookies when you close your browser or disconnect. And of course, the amount that you allot for Internet files could have something to do with it. Both of these are those way-out-in-left-field ideas, though, because usually default settings in these areas are good enough.

I know for a fact that others on here have had this problem before, but I've never seen anyone explain what they did to correct it (if they were even able to, that is).

If I sign into too many IF boards (erm... yeah, I'm a member on several IF forums *cough*), it'll stop remembering me on others. Like... if I'm signed in here and two other places that I frequent, and then decide to log in somewhere that I haven't been to in a while, it'll bump me off of one of the other three forums. Not saying that's the case here, but it does show how the service can be wonky in more ways than one. :bleh:

Added: Khar, if you happen to see this, I sent a Support Ticket about your problem, but IF hasn't gotten back to me on it yet. Sorry!

Prof. Breena Brightheart - October 1, 2004 08:05 AM (GMT)
*sighs* Yeah, I'm double posting. Okay, I got a response from the IF team about Khar's problem. The answer?

"The only way to bypass this bug is to increase the user's total number of storable messages."

... And the only way to increase one professor's total number of storable messages, is to increase them all. So, congrats to all professors! You now have 100 (max) storeable messages.

Khar, if your PM is still showing 50%, let me know. We may have to recreate your account, because obviously I can't keep increasing that total....

Prof. Alyson Hill - October 5, 2004 03:12 AM (GMT)
I have discovered something very interesting...it will log me in automatically, but only after I click on a subforum or topic. How strange!
