Title: Birthday Shopping
Description: muggle entertainment (open)
Astina Sincaltry - August 26, 2005 02:01 PM (GMT)
Astina walked down the crowded street of London and into a small shop on the corner. She opened the door as a bell rang in the shop. She looked around the shop to take in her surroundings. There were shelves lining the walls which displayed many different kinds of video games. Astina was going to buy one for her father. It was his birthday after all and he did like to play video games. That was probubly why he bought her a PS2 for her tenth birthday.
Astina looked through the glass that was garding the shelves of merchandise. How do they manage without magic. Father had clients who were robbed because of this kind of horrable security. Astina always wondered how her father managed to not get robbed before he met her mother.

Xanthe looked in the blank television and stared at her reflection. She smoothed a flyaway hair from her neat ponytail and decided that she looked good enough. She turned round to return to the task at hand. Browsing the shelves for a new game. It was her muggle friend Alicias birthday next month and she was trying to find a connecting cable for two Game Boys. Being a witch, she hadn't a clue what they were and eventually made the decision to go and find an assistant. She spun around, but instead of seeing an assistant she saw a familiar flame of read hair over by the games. Though she didn't know Astina very well, she went up to her all the same thinking that the redhead might not think she was so stupid if she didn't know what a game boy advance was...
Xanthe ran up and tapped Astina on the back. She gave her a smile and started speaking.
"Hiya! I wasn't expecting to see anyone of us round here! What are you looking for?" she said cheerfully. It was always interesting to see how other magical folk reacted around muggles, it helped her do the same. Picking up tips...

Astina was looking at the PS2 games in the window when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She spun around and was face to face with a girl she had seen only at school. She didnt know her, but she did know that she was a Ravenclaw. She greeted Astina warmly and Astina smiled back.
"Im looking for a new game for my father. He's a muggle, you know. I dont believe that we have met before. Im Astina Sincaltry, and you are?" Astina smiled again and stuck out her hand for the girl to shake. "You dont look the type that is muggle born or is a half blood, but, you really cant judge people that way. What are you looking for?"
Astina began to put half of her attention on the games in the glass window and the other half on the girl in front of her. Astina was aware that the sun was setting and that she didnt have that much time.

Xanthe shook Astinas hand. "Hiya! I'm Xanthe Chapel, pleased to meet you! Your right, I'm a total witch! I have a muggle friend back home though and she wants a connecting cable for two game boys for her birthday. Only problem is, I've never seen a game boy in my life! You wouldn't happen to know what one was would you?" she said cheerfully.
The shop was beginning to glow red as the sun began to set. Red sky at night, shephards delight... she thought as her pale hair grew orange in the warm light. The shop grew full of shadows slowly, it was half an hour until closing time thanks to late night shopping.

Astina smiled at Xanthe, she understood. Evertime her Father talked to her mother about his hobbies, she never knew anything that he was talking about. Astina giggled at her mother as she remembered a conversation that they had before she left for school.
Astina turned her attention back to Xanthe. "It's okay. My mother had no idea what all this stuff was either. She's a witch and my father always told her about this stuff, but she never really knew what he was talking about. It's okay. I will help you." Astina turned around and looked for the link cables.
Astina only had to search for a little bit. Having been at stores like this before, she knew where to look. She bent down and took a cable off the shelf. "This is what you are looking for. A gameboy advanced link cable. You ill need this for linkups with gameboy advanced games. You can also use it with other gameboygames other than the gameboy advanced ones."

Xanthe blinked a couple of times. She smiled at Astina and took the box thankfully out of her hand. She took a purse out of her pocket and looked at the strange coins inside. The price read £6.50 on the box. She found six small gold coins and one slightly bigger hexagonal coin and showed them to Astina.
"Thanks! Is this the right change? I can never work it out! And their coins are so tiny! How do they find them!"
She noticed a boy staring at them in confusion. He was probably about 10 and was wearing a baseball cap that clearly proved he was a muggle. She felt herself growing slightly red as she tried to think of a good cover story.
"Uh.. foreign..." she said blushing slightly. Damn it! she thought. I've really got to stop doing that!
She turned back to Astina, and the boy shrugged and walked away. Luckily for her he was gullible enough to believe her bad story... She had been holding trhe money tightly in her hand and now opened it again to show Astina.
Astina Sincaltry - September 26, 2005 02:03 PM (GMT)
Astina looked at the change in Xanthe's hand. "Yeah, that looks about right." Astina nodded to Xanthe, but she caught the sight of a boy in the corner and smiled at him as if she didnt care what he thought. "Great cover story Xanthe," Astina wisperd in her ear, "It usually works on the muggles so you dont have to worry about it."
Astina walked up tho the counter with Xanthe and asked the cashier of he could get the game out of the display case for hsr because she wanted to buy it. He noded and took out a strange looking key ans placed it in the key hole and turned. The glass pane slid open and Astina reached her hand in and grabbed the game she wanted. "It is caled 'Jak III'," Astina explained to Xanthe, "I think my dad would really like it."
She pulled out her money puch and handed a few coins to the cashier and he put the game in a bag with her receite.

[[ooc: I'll remember that!]]
Xanthe handed the box over to the man behind the till and gave him the money. She tried not to look too interested in the till having already aroused suspicion and instead listened to Astina talking about the game.
"So what do you have to do in it?" she asked, twisting a plain silver ring on her right index finger as she spoke. It gave her a sense of securtity in muggle surroundings as it was a gift from her mother.

Astina Sincaltry - September 26, 2005 10:29 PM (GMT)
Astina waited for Xanthe to buy her link cable. When she asked what you have to do in 'Jak III', Astina told her about the story line. "Well, it is the third one so a lot of stff happened before this so you might not get it," Astina said, "Jak has a little friend named Dexter who is a little orange rat. He is really funny. Then, Jak gets banished to the waistland away from Haven city. You have to pretty much save the world from destruction from the 'Dark Ones'" Astina smiled at Xanthe.
"I have already beat the second one, I cant wait to get home and play this one. I hope that my dad will like it." Astina hugged the game to her chest. A large smile spread across her face as she thought of how her dad looked when she gave him the first two 'Jak' games. At the thought, Astina hugged the game all the tighter.
"Hey, want to go for Ice cream? Ill buy!" Astina turned to face Xanthe as she walked out the door of the Electronic store.

Xanthe was confused, yet interersted.
"I really should have taken muggle studies..." she said, giving up. "And sure, I'd love to go for an ice cream!" She and Astina walked out of the shops and went a little way down the street to a cute little cafe. It was quite small with an ice cream parlour in the window. The cafe had checkered cloths on its tables and each had a small vase of flowers in the middle. The busy street thundered past as Xanthe and Astina went up to the window and peered throught the fingerprint smeared glass at the many different ice-creams on off. The streetlamps flickered on, and the houses put on their lights one by one.
"I think I'll have a mint and chocolate chip." Xanthe said at last having made her decision. "You?"
Astina Sincaltry - September 27, 2005 10:18 PM (GMT)
Astina and Xanthe walked down the street as everyone began to turn on light inside. the street lamps flickered on and Astina was bathed in a pale light. "Oh, defidently rasberry, or some kind of wild berry flavor." Astina licked her lips and rubbed her stomache. "Mmmmmm," Astina went into a state of complete bliss at the thought.
Astina opened the door to the ice cream parlor and walked up to the counter. "We will take two waffle cones please." Astina held up her had and extended two fingers so that the cashier could see. She smiled and turned to face Xanthe, "Okay, place your order!" As she waited for Xanthe to order, Astina pulled out her money puch and sorted through her muggle money.

"I'll have the mint and Chocolate chip with a flake please,” said Xanthe, drooling mentally over the ice creams. She leaned lazily against the glass, getting marks on her pristine white leather coat. She sighed and was about to pull out her wand and fix it when she saw some muggles stirring their tea by hand. She took her hand back out of the pocket of her coat and did up the large button absent mindedly, then undid it again. She took the belt of her coat, which was undone and started swinging the end around as Astina placed her order. The last of the suns rays were turning the coffee shop into a hall of shadows, dancing on the checkered tables.
Astina Sincaltry - September 30, 2005 01:57 PM (GMT)
Astina saw Xanthe smudge the glass on the counter. But as she was going to clean it up, Astina saw her reach for her wand. To stop her, Astina laid her hand on her shoulder. Xanthe then put her wand away.
"Ill have two scoops of the Rasberry Sherbert please." Astina said to the cashier. She took out her money bag and handed the man a few coins in payment for the ice cream. The cashier handed both Xanthe and Astina their ice cream snd Astina headed for the door of the parlor.
"Hey Xanthe," Astina said, "Want to go to the park? I heard that there are a lot of cute skater boys there! What do you say?" Astina had her hand on the bar of the door as the sun went behind the trees.
