Character Name: Kievan Tao Ordlay

Family Information: Kievan's parents are Wynter Lao Blackbird-Finn and Arkday Ordlay. He has an Aunt (mother's sister) Summer Kao, and an Uncle (father's brother) Inimay. It would be wise to note another prominant figure in his life, his Grandfather, Evander Ordlay. He has two half-sisters (mother's children) Megami-Yao and Milahi-Cao. Miss. Kai Yimin is his fathers cousin.
Hometown: Ordlay Manor resides near Swansea, England.

Broom: The 'Searing Arrow'

Physical Description: Kievan is tall for his age, standing a good few inches above the heads of those in his year. His features are dark; dark, brooding eyes, a sketchy mouth and dark, croppy hair. His clothes tend to compliment this and coupled with his pale skin, complete the mysterious ensemble. He's not thin, nor bulky, but his body stirs with an untapped potential. He could be good at sport if he applied himself in that direction. Kievans eyes have very dark iris's and almost appear entirely black, this is from his father side, and they have a very subtle curvature - from his mothers lineage.


Personality

Personality: Kievan has a quiet, sulky appearance. This is just a guard though, as he is somewhat 'socially awkward'. In fact, he can actually be very charming and affectionate - rare as though it may be. Kievan can also be snootish, and certainly quick to judge people either on their appearance or their blood. His attitude is typical of a pureblood, rich wizard. He is loyal, beneath his tough exterior, and would put himself in serious danger for a true friend. He's opinionated and confident; he can easily hold his own in an intellectual argument too.
Relationships and Social Skills: As stated, he quite lacks the necessary conversational skills to have a large circle of friends. However, those he considers in this category would certainly point out his wry wit. Kievan can -when pushed- be persuasive and manipulating. It is part of the reason why, of late, he has been sent out to collect rent from several of his Grandfathers clients. His family require him to follow many rules of ettiquette and elecution - his Grandmother is quite the popular socialite and he is often her prize show-piece.
Weaknesses: Kievan lacks the courage to confront his family. He knows his Grandfather is wicked, and that his Father is useless, but he feels he must be loyal to his blood and grateful that Evander took him into the home. Living in his Fathers shadow and being made object of his Grandfathers derision strips him of his self-worth. Kievan is too cautious and afraid to reveal his emotions - to an extent, even in front of Pandora, his girlfriend.
Strengths: Determination (outside of his home) and a strong confidence in his knowledge. Kievan knows a great deal about magic - especially in potions - from the store of books in the Manor's library. He is also very talented and headstrong. You won't find him shooting his wand off (or cauldron) without specific certainty of the outcome. He is a little wiser than his years, but fiesty nonetheless.


Past, Present, and Future

History: First, a little must be said of his parent's history. Arkday and Wynter were both sorted into Gryffindor. As imagined, it was a great disappointment for Evander - thus far, all Ordlay's had been in Slytherin. It was almost an unspoken rule. Furthermore, all Ordlay's married into pureblood and the courting of Miss.Blackbird was a further nail in the coffin of Arkday and his fathers relationship. It is from hereon that Evander's hatred for Kievan stems.

Wynter was pregnant with Kievan in her last year at Hogwarts, though neither her nor Arkday realised, it was so soon to Graduation. However, it soon became apparant that she were to have an Ordlay child. Evander was furious and disowned the child before its birth. Wynter was half-Veelan and to him, this was dirty blood. Almost as bad as a muggle.

Suffice to say, they didn't terminate the pregnancy, and Arkday declared the relationship over. In time, Kievan was born and raised by his mother. However, it came to Evander's attention that the child was a male, the eventual heir of his estate and it would not do for him to be raised by the Blackbird family. Thus, Kievan came to live at the manor, and was home-taught by his Grandfather until his 13th birthday - Evander hoped to secure a hold over his personality, and quite succeeded in moulding his personality. When Kievan reached 13 though, it was obvious he needed to attend a magical school. Hogwarts was the only option, and Evander hoped the boy would redeem the family name and become a Slytherin. Unfortunately, no.

Kievan's mother married Rikhard Finn, a Ravenclaw from her schooldays, and had another two children - twin girls. Kievan has met his sisters on several occassions - most of which when he was young - but feels a barrier towards them. (They, of course, share everything and he envies their relationship with each other and their parents.) Kievan is now quite estranged from both his mother and father, although his 'step-father' is Professor of Care of Magical Creatures.

It was returning from the Spring Holiday that Kievan met Miss. Kavanaugh. He hadn't spoken to girls in the way he spoke to her on that train journey, and he became quite bewitched by her. They soon became an item, and it is unclear on both sides how much of this started from his Veelan blood, or Ordlay-induced charm. Perhaps the boy has another, natural charm, who knows? He doubts his worth of Pandora.

Evander was furious, as he discovered - despite Pandora's lineage - her father had allowed their fortunes to be squandered. In short, she was poor. Thenceforth, he forbid Kievan to see her. Going so far as to remove him from the school in the hope of washing Kievan's mind of her. It didn't work, and only strengthened a growing resolve in Kievan to be with her.

However, Kievan knew Pandora would never rest if Evander were a constant threat. It was the night of the Yule Ball, in their Fifth Year, that Kievan drugged Pandora's drink, and created an effective mind-block. She has no recollection of his family, their prejudice or Evanders cruel opinion. Hopefully, Kievan can now continue his relationship and excel in Hogwarts. Hopefully.

Here and Now: Kievan is now in his 6th Year at Hogwarts and is studying for NEWTs in Potions, Herbology, Charms, DADA and Transfiguration. Pandora and he are still an item, and his memory-blocker still in place. Evander is reluctantly allowing him to continue his education, but 'schools' him over the summer. Kievan also has an on-off job in his familys business. Calling on some of the Knockturn Alley tenants to request either rent or certain artefacts his Grandfather requires.

Long-term Outlook: Kievan doesn't know what his future holds and does not believe in the reputation of Divination. He has plans with Pandora to escape both their families hold, and start a new life. Of course, she thinks its only to escape her grandmother. In school, he wishes to achieve top-marks in his examinations, and has lately been eyeing-up University places. Career-wise, he is unsure.

Special Request: Empathy
Reason: Evander would have searched all possible abilities Kievan could have inherited and honed them to a fine point. The Ordlay's are reknown Empaths, and Evander would have strived to teach Kievan control over this power. So, even though Kievan is withdrawn from social gatherings, he still has a semblance of participation, sharing the emotions of the crowd. As with all Empaths, his power is strongest with those he feels a 'bond'.
