Character Name: Jalena Black

Family Information: Doctor father Ivan, housewife mother Gale, older sister Katelynn (19), Duncan (17), and Danika (11). Her father is French, and her mother is Slavic.

Hometown: Saint-Paul de Vence, France

Physical Description: Jalena is of slightly below average height, at 5’1”, and therefore finds that often people tower over her. Her skin tone is rather pale, but healthy looking, and not at all pasty. She is a classic beauty, her eyes shining brightly and hair silky looking. Jalena’s hair is a deep, dark brown, usually worn down. It is naturally curly, and she usually wears it this way, but will sometimes magically straighten it if she gets the courage to.

She has large doe brown eyes that make her whole face seem larger, and hasn’t lost all of her baby-fat yet, giving her a rather chubby face. Of course, she can always been seen in dresses, and her mother has made her many white dresses, which she believes shows off her dark beauty. Jalena always found this amusing, as her name is Slavic, and means ‘light’.

Psychological Description: Jalena is a very quiet girl, not talking to people often, and never starting a conversation. If someone was to talk to her, however, she would reply politely, but not offer anything more then necessary. She often acts skittish around people that she doesn’t know, which, because of her shy nature, are most people.

Because she doesn’t talk to many people, she learnt to spend her time doing other activities, usually artistic ones, which she has grown proficiency for. Jalena is a very at ballet, and can already dance En Pointe, which is quite an accomplishment. She speaks French very fluently, as her first language which helps with this, although she speaks English very fluently, although sometimes forgets words in English. She can also sings Opera extremely well, although doesn’t like to sing very much, afraid that people will hear her and mock her for it.

When she is sure she is alone, or is feeling very emotional, she will sing to release her emotions; it is the only way she knows to do it. Since staring school she has made few if any friends, and instead spends her time studying for school, not wanting anyone to find out about her artistic and academic talents. If someone finds out about them, she will fervently deny the claims, believing herself to be nothing more than the average pupil.

She hates wrongdoing, and will always do what is right. If she sees or hears something wrong, Jalena will do everything in her power to set things right again. Despite being so soft spoken, her patience does have a limit, and if people repeatedly say something to annoy her, she will blow up at them, often loosing control. She has been known to start swearing when really agitated, both in English and in French, and sometimes it has even come to blows. Jalena has slapped someone in the past, and feels incredibly guilty about it, especially since she was never able to apologise to him.

History: Jalena’s mother, Gale Kowalczyk, is of Slavic decent, having lived in Finland her entire life. She married Ivan Black, a doctor when she was just eighteen, and so expects all of her daughters to get married at that age. Her father is a lot older than her mother, and moved to her father’s home town in Saint-Paul de Vence soon after they were wed. She has two older siblings and one younger one, an older sister Katelynn, who is the eldest, next a brother Duncan to carry on the family name, and her little sister Danika, who dreams of getting married to a rich man and leaving the family name behind. Living in Ireland and having a Slavic surname has sometimes led to problems for Jalena, but upon hearing that she was the daughter of a well-respected doctor, is pretty much left alone.

Gale dreams of getting her daughters married young, and has already achieved this with Katelynn, married to a banker 10 years her senior. Jalena’s younger sister Danika also wishes to get married, but does not have much to offer, and is jealous of her older sister’s good looks and artistic talent. She has teased Jalena all of her life, which can attribute to much of her low self-esteem. When she was younger Jalena had dreams of becoming a doctor, but her family does not view having a career for a woman to be a very important thing. Her family life has been relatively peaceful, her parents have a happy marriage, and her siblings are doing well. Both her father and her mother do not want her to pursue any of her talents, such as ballet or Opera singing, but instead want her to get married early, preferably to someone of a higher class. She also wishes to get married, but to someone she gets along with and who understands her; and although her mother wants her to be happy, she wants her married much more.

She attended a muggle primary school, her father not sure if she would have any magical abilities. Her older sister Katelynn did not have any, and so attended a muggle high school before marrying. Her brother does however, and is attending Hogwarts. Her sister, although newly 11, has not shown any promise of having magic, nor has she received a letter. She is still confident in her ability to become a witch though.
