Title: Going Offline
Description: Yes, this is short notice.

Prof. Breena Brightheart - July 8, 2005 02:18 AM (GMT)
Heads Up!

HPU will be going offline around Midnight EST on Friday, July 8, 2005. You all know how scatterbrained I can be sometimes, so it COULD be a little later, but it will be going offline until around Monday.

Why?

1. I'm changing the sorting set-up. Those who have already sent sorting applications via the sorting form will be sorted during that time. Those who do NOT get their application in via the sorting form will be subject to the new method. Why am I changing it? Because despite how much I detest making members "apply" for things, I can find no other way to ensure that the Mary Sues stay out. Perhaps I will one day be able to switch things back to the old method, but for now, this is will simply have to be how things get done. ALSO! This will allow moderators to help me with the sortings and character descriptions. You all know what we don't like to see, but I'll have some guidelines just in case.

2. I want to finish up things on the expansion. I won't be opening that side of things when we come back online, but (as stated before), I will want some volunteers to go in there and run amok. If you think you'd like to be one of these people, then you'll need to PM the following to me (or e-mail it if you don't get it finished before the offline time: mimclaire [at] gmail.com).

NOTE: You MUST be a long-standing member in order to be a candidate for preliminary testing of the expansion! This means that anyone who has not been with HPU for a period of 3 months or more should not apply! Don't take it personally.

Also, unless you're willing to have your character suddenly graduate from Hogwarts, you should not use your student character. Either make up a new one, or use/adapt one that you might have somewhere else.

I would higly recommend that you COPY this application so you can work on it, because it is long and requires more than two brain cells to complete. It is a very DETAILED account of the adult character you're wanting to portray!

For now, you can overlook the "petition" for shop ownership (just tell me what kind of shop and where in Diagon or Knockturn it's located, if you wish to have one), and you can hold off on filling out the Residential section until after you're in there.

Mentioning them briefly is fine, but we're more interested in seeing this character's personal history--how they've evolved and developed on a peronal level from childhood to adulthood, things that helped shape them into the person they are today, etc.)

Financial Information
(Just answer the questions. We do not want to know how big your bank account is, so there's no need to crunch the numbers. This will merely give us a better picture of your character's financial situation.)

-- Savings --
Do you have a savings account? (if answering "No," you may skip the rest of these questions.)
Do you save regularly?
Would you say the account is large, average, or modest in size?
Is MOST of the content of the account the result of hard work, an inheritance, or an allowance by some wealthy relative?

-- Credit --
Do you have a Gringotts card, or Gringotts line of credit?
How often do you use it?
Do you ever use it for things that don't last very long? (i.e. groceries or other consumable items--could also mean things that you don't use very often, like special occasion clothing, and the like.)

-- Spending --
Do you mostly pay in cash? ("cash" = galleons, sickles, knuts)
Do you ever pay with a Gringotts check? If so, under what circumstances (normally)?
How often do you spend money on non-essential items? (Non-essential items would be things you don't necessarily need to survive, where as essentials are things like groceries, basic clothing items, medication, home-repair items, and whatnot.)
Are you a "smart shopper"? In other words, do you analyze the price, quantity, etc. before you make a decision on which brand, or do you just pick up whatever is handy or looks the most appealing to you?
Do you budget your finances and expenses (wisely)?
How often to you make "big" purchases in a year? (a big purchase would be like a new broom or new furniture, but could also be a pricey piece of jewlery or item of clothing, or anything that may be considered a "luxury" item to the average person.)

Residential Application
(You must read the real estate guide before proceeding with this section of the character profile. We'll know if you were slack and didn't bother. ;))

Desired Residence:
Second Option: (You MUST choose a secondary location, no matter how badly you might want your first choice. Houses don't just miraculously appear, nor is there always a vacancy in a particular neighborhood or building. If you don't choose a second option, you will be forced to live on the streets.)
Preferred Type of Dwelling:
Occupants:
Ignore this part until after you're in there.
