Title: Changes, Clean-ups, Etc.
Description: What's gone, and whatnot

Prof. Breena Brightheart - June 20, 2005 11:00 PM (GMT)
In case you haven't noticed (or have, and are wondering), several forums have gone bye-bye due to extensive lack of use and/or obsoletion. They may or may not return in the future, depending on if they will be needed for certain things.

Other forums were simply moved to consolidate the main page. Here is a breakdown of all the changes that have taken place.

Deleted Forums:
- Plotting forum (wasn't being used; may come back)
- Professor Dens (in all of the houses; probably won't come back)
- Prefects' Bathroom (wasn't being used; may come back)
- Room of Requirement (obsolete; may come back)
- Chamber of Secrets (obsolete; may come back)
- HQ of the IS (obsolete; may come back)
- DE Clearing (obsolete; may come back)
- The Burrow (wasn't being used; probably won't come back)
- The Quibbler (wasn't being used; probably won't come back)
- SPEW Officer's subforum (wasn't being used; probably won't come back)
- Wiccan Reality (wasn't being used; may come back)
- Guest Book (somewhat obsolete; won't be coming back)

Consolidated Forums:
- Controversy Central (now a subforum of General OOC Things)
- Support Forum (now a subforum of General OOC Things)

Soon-to-be DONE:
- Classrooms (will be consolidated into subforums--stay tuned for that)

Beyond that, I did some cleaning, and will ask any prefects and profs left in the houses to PLEASE CLEAN YOUR HOUSE FORUMS! Get rid of any unnecessary threads (pinned or not). I'm tired of seeing the clutter. Thank you.

Also, everyone should note: There are more changes (BIG ONES) on the way. HPU IS GOING TO CLEAN UP ITS ACT, OR ELSE! :disgust:

Dracona N. Illinean - June 21, 2005 12:51 AM (GMT)
Wow! We must be sharing brain waves today! I figured out finally that it was useless to keep on extending deadlines and such for the duelling club and purged it... Not to mention that I'm going tto camp now, and it wouldn't have interfered if I hadn't found it necessary to extend those deadlines to keep it alive.

Not that that worked... :disgust:

In fact, you can probably move that off the board temporairily. I'd like to attempt it again in the fall, I think the problem could perhaps have been helped by school ending and summer breaks and such... (Though it SHOULDN'T have if people would have just SIGNED UP...)

Acacia Callisto - June 21, 2005 09:02 PM (GMT)
Cleaned the Hufflepuff forum, and deleted three threads that were LONG dead. We're talking January-April topics .. just thought I'd let you know. =)

Prof. Breena Brightheart - June 21, 2005 09:17 PM (GMT)
Thank you, Acacia! You and Dracona (maybe... I dunno how long her camp lasts...), along with any other prefects and/or old(er) members I can dig up may have to help me with a few things coming up. I'm not anywhere near finished cleaning up and overhauling HPU.

My ideas are still stewing, and I'm hoping to be able to talk to Fe about them before I do anything. But if push comes to shove, I may have to go forward without her (and I hate doing that). Either way, I'll be PMing people when the time comes, so please keep a heads up for that. I can't say whether or not it will be easy, or if it'll even to any good. But we've got to at least try, right?

Oh, and Dracona... sorry to hear about the Dueling club, hon. I saw your note about the purge. Let's hope things are whipped back into shape well enough by the time you attempt it again.

Dracona N. Illinean - June 21, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
Meh... Sigh... Camp camp... I can try to help as much as I can... but my schedule's gone wonky. My mum's decided to send me off next Monday for who knows how long; at least I'll be having fun... I think... :erm: But I may be able to log on while that's happening... Camp... camp... I'm leaving on either the first or the second, not sure when, but since the drive can be up to 13 hours, and I have to be there by two on that Sunday... yeah. Then I get out on the 17th - My mum's bringing with her a copy of the HBP for me to read on ourr way home! Yay! :w00t: - I should be back but the 19th. And then I'm off to Edinborough (which I can never spell) in August for a large chunk, if not all... So my help is limited. But I can help while I'm here.

So- Break down. Limited internet next week. First two and a half weeks of July, absolutely no internet service. August, no internet service.

Oh yeah, the Slytherin Common Room is cleared off dead threads, if not by me.

Acacia Callisto - June 21, 2005 09:55 PM (GMT)
Awwhh. You poor thing! I'd die without my laptop and any internet. Which isn't something to be proud of .. but hey. I'm trying to cut down. =)

Breena, I'd be glad to help! You know my screenname on AIM if you need to contact me there as well. =)

Prof. Breena Brightheart - June 21, 2005 11:46 PM (GMT)
Thankies, Acacia! ^^ I'll letcha know when the time comes. ^_~

And, just so it's all officially announced and stuff...

The classrooms have been consolidated, so now we don't have a whole chunk of empty/inactive forums showing up on the main page. For now, that's all of the forum changes that I'm planning to do.

The other changes that are coming will be announced once I get all of my plans finalized.

Prof. Sarah Kerrigan - June 22, 2005 06:44 PM (GMT)
Hi Bree.
Haven't seen you in a while *is wondering if you're hiding*
Anyway, I'm off to clean up Rav if it was not done so.

Cheers

PS: Slytherin forum's kinda in a wrong place, I think :bleh:

Prof. Breena Brightheart - June 23, 2005 12:32 AM (GMT)
Eek! How'd it jump way up there? Heh. It's back where it's supposed to be now. ^_~ If anyone sees anything stuck in the wrong spot, lemme know. The forum re-ordering screen sometimes like to shuffle things around without being told to! o_O

Anyway. Yet another change!

I just did away with all global mods, but DON'T PANIC! I'm going to remove all single mods from the forums and then go back and appoint entire moderator groups to certain categories. So, instead of there being only 1 moderator assigned to a certain forum, the whole group will be able to mod. Hopefully, this help tie the site over whenever we have to switch out mods (and some of them are going bye-bye for failing to do their job. ), and will make it easier (and possibly cleaner?) overall.

Um... yeah, I have a few ideas that I will be running by the members in the new RP Discussions forum (a new addition, yay) here shortly.

Dracona N. Illinean - June 23, 2005 01:00 AM (GMT)
Oh, we got one of those finally, did we?

Ah... so THAT's what was wrong with Slythering... sorta freaking out, I was.

Cool! So, now people won't ask me to get rid of a post please, without realising I'm not allowed to? O_o Because I've been asked more than once to please delete something because I'm the only mod on, buti t turns out that it's in the forest or something, and I can't delete from there.

Prof. Breena Brightheart - June 23, 2005 01:15 AM (GMT)
Yeah, it kinda puts all mods on equal footing, which some may think will suck, but you know... I think it sucks that hardly anyone's been doing their job around here.

Anyway. That is just one of several changes that are on the way. I'm sick of the bloody Mary Sues around here, so HPU is going to be adopting an attitude that is even more in keeping with the Harry Potter genre. This will mostly affect character descriptions and special items/abilities from this point forward (not gonna take anything away from anyone, of course). But yeah... all those who think a high fantasy character belongs here (or who watch too much anime, and think that a charry like that would fit) for this genre can catch a bus to another forum. I'm sick of it.

I swear to Merlin I'm about one step away from making people apply for permanent membership before being allowed to take the sorting quiz. But no... I'm not going to go that extreme in purging this place of the Evil just yet. >__<

You all do know that's one of the main factors that drove away most of the older members, right? The f*cking Mary Sues and bad RPers who were already pissing me off to no end. :disgust: But if they think I'm going to let them kill HPU for good, they can think again. I'll shut this place down myself, and start a whole new forum before I'll let that kind of crap continue.

*breathes* Okay. I'm cool. That was my moment of bitching.

And now I'm going back to figuring out how to fix this mess...

Dracona N. Illinean - June 23, 2005 01:29 AM (GMT)
... Mary Sues should have their ankles and wrists tied up by their own hair and hung from a dungeon ceiling upside down with their toungues cut out so they can't say anything and shot repeatedly.

... Or maybe not. If you're new, and reading this, don't worry. I'llo nly do that if you consistantly Mary Sue.

No, but seriously, they should be put on mod queue. The slightest sign of Mary Sueing, mod queue for them until we're satisfied. And while they're there, I'll give them the address to several sucky sites that I left because of horrible RPing and Mary Suers.

I don't think it would suck at all. I think it's good. Also, I think it would be good if there were more mods with access to moderate the general forums... They're getting awfully clogged. But then again, I'll shut up since you probably noted that already.

Oh yeah, fittingi n with the Mary Sues, I think you shouldn't accept any character descriptions that even hint at things such as wrist-slashing and angsty characters without a well written back story and even better written plan for why they have their character like that. I don't think there are many necessarily at the moment, but it's really annoying when there are any.

EDIT- Crap, my computer really exploded now. Well, hope i'll still be able to use it tomorrow! *forced cheerful grin*

Now... let's get to work, bug-checkers... *cracks knuckles*

Acacia Callisto - June 23, 2005 02:07 AM (GMT)
Hahaha! That was excellent Breena! Couldn't have said it any better. There's an over exposure on the newbies, and at my last RP, there were so many Asian characters taking over I swear it was like you weren't in the UK anymore.

The only part is, Acacia is a 7th year, I don't want to retire her so early! I don't know if I'm ready for the teacher position, unless I make her repeat 7th year and pretend it never happened before and this was actually her 6th year. But that'd probably screw everyone up. xD

Okay sorry for the randomness. Must get back into the real buisness ..

Prof. Breena Brightheart - June 23, 2005 02:22 AM (GMT)
Eh, yeah. I was going to go back through the archives and pick out any and all blatant Mary Sue charries and either delete them without warning ('cause that's how disgusted I am), or put them on a High Risk type of list.

What I really want, however, are Spiders. Or, a select group of people who are not only awesome RPers, and would therefore have plenty of room to say when someone else's RPing sucks; but who also know the definition of a Mary Sue, how to spot them, and how to put them in their place. >_< Naturally, these people would also have to be capable and willing to help 'coach' or 'mold' the not-so-advanced RPers into something more acceptable for HPU's level of standards.

For this service, those individuals would be given certain 'perks' that no one else would be granted.

Oh, and Acacia... the time warping back and forth happens all the time. But if you're not ready for her to be a professor, and don't want to send her "back in time" like you said, you could have her graduate from here, then send her to AU. Then you'd be free to start over here with a new charry. ^^ Uh, not sure how the prefect thing would work, but since we're going to have to have new ones in each of the houses anyway, you could just reapply with the new person, letting us know who you are when you do.

Jenny Paveo - June 23, 2005 02:48 AM (GMT)
Breena, you mentioned that there was going to be new prefects in each house. Is there a place where I can apply for that?

Prof. Breena Brightheart - June 23, 2005 03:21 AM (GMT)
Coming soon. Stay tuned for details. ^_~

Dracona N. Illinean - June 23, 2005 01:14 PM (GMT)
Okay, it's official, just before I lose my computer anyway, it goes wacky. Something wrong with 'explorer.exe' which, might I add, is pretty much the computer itself. So I'm on my sister's computer for a moment, and I'll try to get on here as much as I can, (when she's not using it trying to find something else to do becuase she's waiting for her editors (me, our mother and all of her little friends) to send it back with edits for her to put in) and I'll try to log on while off in that thing that my momther dumped on me pretty much last minute and so on and so on...

Sigh. I can't wait until my dad gets home. Maybe he'll be able to stall it for just a moment. It doesn't let me do anything. It just pops up error message after error message after error message. It wasn't this bad last night...

Oh yeah, i think that Breena's got the right idea about mary sues (who I've decided do not deserve to be capitalised after all,) about the japanese thing, at one RP I left from mary sues and such the web master refused to let you register if there was even the slightest mention of something japanese sounding. It was funny, becuase this was a week after opening. Um... Yeah. Bye.

Quickt not-so-random edit. My computer's even more dead than I thought.

New edit much later - would I be able to apply to be a spyder without participating for some time (PS, I'll be in edinburugh three weks)

Acacia Callisto - June 23, 2005 07:30 PM (GMT)
You know, that could work actually. I could make a new account and start using it now, then when prefect time comes along I could submit her, then retire Acacia over here, but have her pop up every once in a while as a substitute or something. Unless I come up with a good teaching strategy, I'm going to be so bored this summer, so I'll have time to ponder upon that. Thanks for the ideas. =]

I don't really understand why people want such a perfect character either. It gives you barely any inspiration for coming up with situations for you or anyone else. Not to mention everyone hates you anyway. Haha.

Prof. Alyson Hill - June 24, 2005 01:24 AM (GMT)
Meep. Terribly sorry, Professor. Your threats are just what I needed to get active on here again!

*repents*

Hades Sylverdarkness - June 24, 2005 09:18 AM (GMT)
You know where to find me when you need extra help. <3

Prof. Breena Brightheart - June 24, 2005 09:51 AM (GMT)
Thankies, hon! ^^

Also, I've just posted a new addition to our growing collection of RP tips. I will most likely add to these later as I still have a few things that I'm needing to address over at AU, and they'll likely be applicable here, too.

If anyone can think of anything that should be addressed in those particular tips, please let me know. Same goes if you can think of something that would help elaborate on the issues I've covered there.

'Tis all for now. ^^
