Title: Electronics??

K, I've noticed lots of people saying that they're using like, all this 'muggle' electronic stuff and they act like it's perfectly normal for wizards to be using this stuff. I seem to remember Hermione saying in the fourth book that electronics don't work on the Hogwarts grounds. Maybe I'm just imagining this, but I'm pretty sure it's true. Also I have noticed people describing themselves as wearing jeans, t-shirts and other 'muggle' clothing. Now I just want to be clear on the rules. Don't people wear like, wizard clothes in the books? If I am completely off here, please let me know.

The electronics you have right, but the clothes let me clear that up.
Alright, lets go to the the Third Movie (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban). Well, we barely saw them in their robes, or any school clothes for that matter, you see them with mostly sweaters, blue jeans, T-Shirts etc on. So if people are saying they also wear normal clothes then they are correct. I mean I don't think anyone would wear their cloak all day, or on the weekends! Or even those really long holidays...
And yes, Hermione does say that, electronics DO NOT work in Hogwarts.

Thank you!
Yes, I wasn't sure on the clothes thing. But still, I mean they describe them in the books as wearing their robes almost all the time, except when they're not at Hogwarts. Also, in the movies, the first and second one they wore their robe's all the time, but in the third one I think they switched to the kids wearing normal clothes because of the culture. Would teenagers rather have their favourite Harry Potter characters wearing un-stylish black robes, or trendy jeans and t-shirts? It is something to think about--JK Rowling hardly ever describes them as wearing 'muggle' clothing, but here in the movies they're wearing it whenever you see them.

Yeah I know, the clothes thing is confusing. o.O
I just think they wear them on school days, and then on other days they wear normal clothes.

Yeah it is...I guess they do...

Clothing
In the books, I think it's pretty much; walk further away from your dormitory than the entrace to the common room, I better not see you not wearing robes at least over your muggle clothes, while in the moovies, it's more; Just don't enter your classrooms out of your robes.
Electronics
JK Rowling has made it clear that the list of electronics that work on the Hogwarts grounds is limited. Cameras, maybe, but not CD players. Radios, yes, but not laptops. You just sort of have to think; is this really advanced electronics? Did they develop it by 1950?
... In fact, that's a pretty good rule. Before 1970 (1970's probably closer to the limit; either that or 1960, I dunno, I suck at History. I'm a mathematition, not a Historian...), it'll probably work. After... don't count on it.

Yeah, that makes sense. But I thought that even radios didn't work in Hogwarts?
Alexandria Riddle - May 23, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
As for the clothing... my character really dosent care. She wears what she wants... thats why I have been saying that she has been wearing jeans and yadda yadda...

... Radios? What happened to the WWW then or something? I'm sure radios would probably work. Not boom boxes, but radios.
Jenny Paveo - May 24, 2005 09:28 PM (GMT)
WWW? Forgive my ignorance, but what's that?

Srry, WWN. The Wizarding Wireless Network?
Joseliel De Montroi - May 25, 2005 10:55 PM (GMT)
Isnt it Wireless Wizarding Network...?
I looked at that and got incredibly confused...lol
Dracona N. Illinean - May 26, 2005 11:03 AM (GMT)
Um... well, Wizarding wirreless or Wireless Wizarding, the point is the same.
Jenny Paveo - May 26, 2005 10:24 PM (GMT)
Oh..I don't remember that but if you both do then I guess there is one.
