Imogen von Wissembourg - January 7, 2005 05:18 AM (GMT)

Character Name:
Imogen Annaliese von Wissembourg

House: You will not know which house you're in until you've taken the Sorting Quiz!

Blood Type: Muggleborn.

Family Information: Baron Fritz von Wissembourg and Else Beauchamp, and three siblings listed in the History section.

Hometown: Munich, Germany (The family has migrated a bit over the centuries)

Physical Description: A 15-year-old girl of unremarkable height and build with large dark olive colored eyes, pale skin, and a smattering of freckles on her nose, cheeks, shoulders, and chest. Imogen’s hair is a deep brown color and falls in lazy, not-shiny waves to the bottom of her shoulderblades, except for some bangs which she pushes to the side with increasing frequency as her teenage years wear on. Her voice betrays only the slightest German accent, which tends to crop up with her pronunciation of “rs” such as that found in the words “hurt” or “furnace.” Otherwise she is easily mistakable for a British teenager, save, of course, the complete mouthful of a name.

Psychological Description: I think the History basically sums up how Imogen thinks and behaves.

History: The von Wissembourg line of nobility hails from Alsace-Lorraine, though its precise location has varied with the increasing mobility afforded to them in the modern era, while the Beauchamp family is predominantly French, though Else herself and her immediate family resided in Lorraine when she met the Baron. Both historical proximity and the status of the Beauchamp family in Lorraine provided Else with the good fortune of marrying the Baron von Wissembourg, at the time simply Fritz, and ascending to the status of out-and-out nobility. Though titled and landed nobility are a relative scarcity in modern Europe, the von Wissembourgs retain a deal of power and publicity. As such, the birth of a young witch into their family was met with nothing short of shock and horror, and Imogen, once an adored Baroness-to-be, was abruptly sent off to boarding school in Durham at the age of seven when her powers were discovered. Much as her parents adored the charming young girl, her abilities would be seen as a black mark upon the family which already had earned a degree of ill-repute from its unfortunate involvement in the Third Reich all those years ago. Her absence, though a painful blow to her parents, was necessary.

Imogen herself took a couple years to adjust and several more to truly understand why she had spent all but two months of each of the past eight years in Durham instead of with her family, and why her behavior was so strictly regulated and monitored compared to her siblings’. Despite the fact that she had essentially been severed from the family, Imogen was nonetheless expected to serve as an impeccable representative in all her pursuits and clandestinely participate in all family traditions. Although placing such responsibilities on the shoulders of such a young girl clearly caused her to mature much quicker than others of the same age, Imogen suffers from a deep-seated insecurity and incessant drive to appease the von Wissembourgs. Additionally, a life among the social elite has rendered Imogen slightly out of touch with middle class life, and she retains some of the laws-only-apply-to-everyone-else attitude that many well-to-do suffer from. Nonetheless, she is pleasant to be around.

Since her acceptance to Hogwarts, Imogen’s mother has nearly cut off all contact for fear of losing the favor of her husband’s family. The Baron, however, having always been eaten away by the guilt of having to abandon his firstborn daughter, suddenly became tremendously supportive of Imogen and sent her congratulations and gifts. He frequently sends her letters and packages as the best substitute he can provide for his actual presence. Baron von Wissembourg himself holds no contempt toward the wizarding world, though it does confuse him utterly, but cannot openly display any acknowledgement.

Imogen has an older brother, Walther (17), and younger siblings Martje (12) and Otto (9), none of whom posess any magical powers whatsoever.
