As some of you know, there are two parts in the show. The first part is when Kikyou betrays Inu-yasha and the second part is when Inu-yasha betrays Kikyou.

Part 1
Inu-yasha is a half-demon who is a dear loving friend of Kikyou. Kikyou told Inu-yasha about the Shikon Jewel and how it would change his life on being a full pledged demon. Inu-yasha got interested. Day by day, Inu-yasha was getting interested. Inu-yasha asked if he could have the Shikon Jewel so he could grow strength and be a full pledged demon. So Kikyou agreed. Kikyou promised that he could have the Shikon Jewel.
On the day that Kikyou promised he would give Inu-yasha the Shikon Jewel, Inu-yasha lost patience. He jumped from tree to tree heading to the shrine where they held the Shikon Jewel. He grabbed it and Kikyou saw him grab it. "Inu-yasha!", said Kikyou. Kikyou had bows and arrows. She grabbed an arrow out of the case and that special arrow had a spell in it, a spell that would send wether half-demons or full pledged demons to sleep for 50 years. Kikyou shot Inu-yasha and pinned him to a tree. A very old tree.

Part 2

On the day that Kikyou promised he would give Inu-yasha the Shikon Jewel, Kikyou was sitting on the grass. Inu-yasha was fast. Kikyou was sitting on the grass and she had the Shikon Jewel. Inu-yasha grabbed the jewel out of her hand. Inu-yasha choked Kikyou.....and died....Kaede, Kikyou's little sister, cried and said, "Please, big sister! Don't leave us!".

EDIT*: Wether Inu-yasha or Kikyou betrayed each other, it was Naraku who had disguised as them.....

Like first of all, Inuyasha and Kikyou didn't betray each other for a bit. Also, the two were NOT friends. Inuyasha was after the shikon no tama, along with tons of other demon or humans alike. Inuyasha and Kikyou eventually grew closer, and finally decided to use the shikon no tama for good, to turn Inuyasha human so him and Kikyou could live happily, etc. Now on the day they were going to meet, Onigumo, who recently became Naraku attacked Kikyou from behind, as Inuyasha, fatally wounding her. Naraku also impersonated Kikyou, and took a shot at Inuyasha. This angered him, so he stole the shikon from where it was being kept. As he made his escape, deciding to ditch the Kikyou who just betrayed him, and become a full youkai. Do yeah, as he was escaping, the actual Kikyou, wounded, thinking he was the one who inflicted it upon her, shot an arrow through his heart, bounding him to the sacred tree. Kikyou died shortly after, and her body was burned with the shikon no tama. Next her remains were buried in the village. And later on this witch, Urasae or something, resurrects Kikyou. And, Inuyasha didn't just "WAKE UP" 50 years later; he was awaken by Kagome, who is the reincarnation of Kikyou. She got dragged into the well by the centipede monster, and found Inuyasha on tree. Eventually the arrow is removed and thus begins one of the most pwn stories ever. :D Isn't Takahashi-sama GREAT? Heh, I'm done.
