Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Summary

Harry Potter, the boy Who Lived, has spent yet another
summer at the Dursley’s in 4 Privet Drive, Surrey.
This summer he’s turned 15. The Dursley’s have treated
him in almost the same way as all the other years he’s
lived at their house. They stare at him, grind their
teeth and ask him questions. Well, that’s not as usual
– they seem to see him this year. When he was younger
they usually pretended he wasn’t there.
Anyway, one hot evening Harry was lying beneath the
window to listen to the news. Inside the house he
seldom was allowed to watch what he wanted. He didn’t
hear anything about Voldemort, though, who he had seen
come back in June. The owls didn’t bring him any news,
besides the Daily Prophet. If he had read the papers
thoroughly he had got news…
He jumps up when he hears a loud crack, it sounds as
if someone Apparates or Disapparates. Uncle Vernon and
Aunt Petunia discover him as he runs his head into the
window. He walks away to the park, where he sees
Dudley and his gang. on his way home Harry walks up to
Dudley and teases him. But Dudley mentions Harry’s
nightmares, and things could have gone bad, as if it
doesn’t anyways… Two Dementors approaches. Harry
manages to produce a Patronus which chases both of
them away. Dudley, who nearly got kissed, is not in a
good condition. Harry searches for more Dementors when
Mrs. Figg runs to them, telling him she’s a squib.
She’s mad at Mundungus who should have watched over
Harry, and rescued him from the Dementors.
At home Harry receives several letters. The Ministry
tells him he’s expelled from Hogwarts, because he did
magic. Mr. Weasley and Sirius tell him to stay at the
Dursley’s and that Dumbledore is sorting it out. Then
the Ministry writes once more to tell him he’s not
expelled, but he has to come on a hearing.
At the same time as the letters arrive, Harry is
questioned by his uncle and aunt about what happened.
Surprisingly, Petunia knows about dementors, and she
is terrified when Harry tells them Voldemort is back.
Some days later, Harry is picked up by some wizards
and witches: Remus Lupin, Mad-Eye Moody, Nymphadora
Tonks, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Elphias Doge, Dedalus
Diggle, Emmeline Vance, Sturgis Podmore and Hestia
Jones.
Nymphadora, who prefers to be called Tonks, is a
Metamorphmagus, she can change her appearance at will.
She’s really cool!
They all have come to take Harry to London, to the
Headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix. the Order is
a secret group of people who fight Voldemort and his
followers. Harry’s parents were part of the Order,
too, and Neville’s parents, and a lot more people.
Some of them was killed by Death Eaters. Now, the
Headquarters are in number twelve, Grimmauld Place.
It’s Sirius’ old home, and now he’s let the Order, of
which he’s part, use the house. Dumbledore is the
Secret Keeper, and only the Order knows where it is.
Sirius has been kept inside Grimmauld Place all
summer, so that he would not be recognized by anyone.
Hermione and Ron have been at the place several weeks
and helped to clean it. The Weasley family is also
part of the Order. Well, not Ron, Ginny and the twins,
as they aren’t of age. They aren’t allowed to be at
the meetings.
Percy has left the family. He was promoted, now he’s
the Junior Assistant to the Minister. He and Mr.
Weasley had a row, as Arthur thinks Percy was promoted
so that Mr. Fudge would be able to have a spy at the
Weasley’s.
Of course Harry is angry with Hermione and Ron when
he’s told they have been at the Headquarters several
weeks, and not told him anything. He shouts a bit
before he calms down and listen to them. Professor
Dumbledore made them promise not to tell Harry
anything about the Order.
Grimmauld Place is as I told you Sirius’ old home. The
Black family has always been on the edge of being
Death Eaters. Sirius’ parents thought Voldemort was
right about his ideas
(eg. the Mudblood/Fullblood thing). His brother was a
Death Eater.
Sirius’ mother is dead, but there is a portrait of her
in the hall. If they talk to loud she wakes up and
starts to scream about Mudbloods, bloodtraitors and
all sorts of things. She put up a family tree in one
of the rooms. In some places in the tree there are
burned holes. There have been family members, but his
mother burned them out of the family for some reasons.
Neither Sirius, his uncle nor Tonks are there any
more. Harry also sees that Draco’s mother Narcissa is
a close relative to Sirius. So is Bellatrix Lestrange,
who nearly killed Neville’s parents, she is Sirius’
cousin.
One day Mrs. Weasley tries to get rid of a Boggart
upstairs. Harry finds her crying as she tries to make
the dead bodies of her family to disappear. Lupin has
to help her.
Mr. Weasley goes with Harry to the Ministery of Magic
for the hearing. Harry is lucky: Dumbledore arrives in
time and answers for him. Harry is cleared of all
charges. But not everyone in the Wizengamot is happy
about it.
One of the last days of the summer break they get
their Hogwarts letters. Everyone is surprised when Ron
gets a Prefect badge. No one expected him to be made a
Prefect, they all thought Harry would be. Hermione
also is made a Prefect, and, of course, Draco, too.
Sirius insists on following Harry and the others to
the station. Mad-Eye and some more also follow them.
On the train Harry meets Luna Lovegood, a wierd fourth
year girl in Ravenclaw. Cho Chang walks by his
compartment and says hi.
Back at Hogwarts Harry gets sight of reptile-like
horses pulling the carriages to the castle: thestrals.
Only Luna can see them, too.
Hagrid isn’t back yet. Professor Grubbly-Plank teaches
them instead. They have a new Defenses Against the
Dark Arts teacher, Professor Dolores Umbridge. Fudge
has chosen her, as he thought Dumbledore wasn’t fast
enough to find a teacher.
Umbridge is soon hated by everyone, except Mr. Filch.
He thinks she’s the best thing that ever happened to
Hogwarts… Umbridge doesn’t let them study practical
Defences, but theoretical Defences.
Umbridge and Harry become enemies the very first day
of school. He gets a whole week worth of detention.
And such a detention! She has a special quill he has
to write with. I must not tell lies, he has to write
on a parchment. Only the words appear on the back of
his hand, as cuts in his skin.
The lies Umbridge means are the ones about Voldemort
coming back. The Ministry does anything to make Harry
and Dumbledore shut up about it.
Because of the detentions Harry isn’t able to come on
the Keeper try-outs. Ron is made Keeper of
Gryffindor’s Quidditch team. He isn’t as good as the
others in the team, but he ws the best one of those
who came for the try-outs…
The Daily Prophet writes that a reliable source has
told them the murderer Black is hiding in London.
Harry understands that Lucius Malfoy must’ve
recognized Sirius as a dog on the station.
Later that week Ron gets a letter from Percy, telling
him he should stop hang around with Harry. The same
night Sirius appears in the common room fire to talk
to them.
The next morning the Daily Prophet announces that
Umbridge is the new High Inquisitor at Hogwarts. She
starts to visit the other classes to watch the other
professors teach. She has the right to sack any
teacher not fit enough to teach at Hogwarts.
One night Hermione suggests they should start a small
group and study practical Defences Against the Dark
Arts, with Harry as the teacher. Harry isn’t all happy
about the idea.
On the first Hogsmeade trip of the year they go to The
Hog’s Head, a small pub hardly any people come to.
Hermione has told some people about the DADA group,
and now they come, all 25 of them. They deside to hold
a meeting some time later.
But then Umbridge puts up a new rule: all groups,
teams, etc. must have permission from herself, or else
they are illegal and the members are to be expelled.
Still, Harry desides to run the DADA group.
Hedwig arrives late one morning, and her wing is hurt.
It is obvious someone watches the ways in and out of
Hogwarts. The proof comes some nights later, when
Sirius joins Harry, Ron and Hermione in the common
room again. The hand of Umbridge tries to catch
Sirius’ head in the fire. Not only the owls, but the
fires are watched by Umbridge.
One night Dobby wakes Harry in the middle of the
dreams he has had since summer started, about long
dark corridors and a black door he really wants to
open. Harry is told about a room where they can study
DADA, the Room of Requirement. Harry thinks it sounds
perfect, and soon the group is practising defencive
spells and jinxes, with Harry as the teacher. They
call themselves Dumbledore’s Army, as unknown groups
aren’t allowed because the Ministry is afraid that
Dumbledore would build sort of an army to fight the
Ministry.
Gryffindor win against Slytherin in the first
quidditch match, thanks to Harry. Ron isn’t as good a
Keeper as Oliver Wood was. After the game Draco
provokes Harry and the Weasley twins. The result is
that Harry and George attack Draco with their fists.
The girls manage to hold Fred back. But Umbridge gives
all three of them a life-long quidditch ban.
As to cheer them up, Hagrid gets back the same
evening. Harry, Ron and Hermione hurry down to him,
and are shocked. Hagrid has several injuries. He won’t
tell them how he did come by them. But they manage to
make him tell about his mission. He tells them he was
sent together with Madame Maxime to find the giants
and try to make them join the good side. But things
went wrong. There was a fight among the giants, and
they chose a new leader, who wasn’t friendly to the
two of them. So they had to go back to Britain.
Hagrid’s first lesson with them contained Thestrals.
He lead them into the Forbidden Forest to show them
the thestrals. Only Harry, Neville and a Slytherin boy
could see them. Umbridge certainly couldn’t.
Harry, George and Fred are replaced in the team. The
DA group has their last meeting before Christmas.
After the lesson Cho and Harry stays behind. Harry
doesn’t join Hermione and Ron until half an hour
later…
That night Harry dreamed he was a snake, coiling its
way through the dark corridors. Beside a door he finds
Mr. Weasley, and attacks him. He is wakened by Ron.
Professor McGonagall comes to the dormitory, and asks
him to follow her to Dumbledore. Ron is also asked to
come with them. Harry tells Dumbledore that it wasn’t
an ordinary dream, that it really happened and that
Mr. Weasley was seriously hurt. Dumbledore sends some
wizard portraits to find him. The Weasley’s and Harry
are all sent to Grimmauld Place to stay with Sirius
during the night. As Kreacher the House elf make nasty
commentaries about them Sirius shouts to him to get
out.
In the morning Mrs. Weasley arrives and tells them
that Arthur is quite all right, considering the
circumstances. Later they go to St. Mungo’s Hospital
to visit him. Soon the kids are told to wait outside.
The twins have brought Extendable Ears, and they
eavesdrop at the door. Harry soon wishes he hadn’t
been eavesdropping: the adults talk about Voldemort,
and that he may be possessing Harry.
After that Harry avoids the others, until Hermione
arrives at the place. She makes him join the others,
and Ginny tells him he’s not possessed. Later they all
go to St. Mungo’s again, to visit Arthur. Mr. and Mrs.
Weasley begun to argument with each other, so Harry
and the others go to find some tea. They suddenly meet
Gilderoy Lockhart, their former DADA teacher, in a
corridor. He hasn’t got his memory back, but he’s
started to write autographs again. Only he doesn’t
know why he loves to do that. A Healer comes to take
him back to his room. In the same room is two other
beds. They have also visitors: Neville and his Granny.
Neville’s parents, who are in the beds, were tortued
into insanity.
Harry, Hermione and the Weasley’s all spend the
Christmas holiday at Sirius’ place, together with some
others in the Order. One of the last days before
school starts again, Snape visits to talk to Harry.
Snape tells him Dumblefore wants Harry to study
Occlumency. Snape will teach him, and Harry is to tell
anyone who asks he takes remedial Potions. Then Snape
and Sirius start to fight, and the are just about to
start a wizards duel when Mr. Weasley returns from the
hospital.
Harry doesn’t do well at his Occlumency lessons. He
has too much to think about, he can’t shut it out. And
it’s Snape teaching him, so I’m not surprised he
doesn’t do well.
Harry and the others are shocked when they read in the
Daily Prophet that ten Death Eaters has broken out of
Azkaban, among them Bellatrix Lestrange and Algernon
Rookwood. Also, Mr. Bode died of a Devil’s Snare at
St. Mungo’s. And Sturgis Podmore was arrested when he
was found in the Department of Mysteries.
Harry has a date with Cho on Valentine’s Day in
Hogsmeade. But they have a row about Cedric and
Hermione, and Harry goes to meet Hermione at The Three
Broomsticks. There she waits on him with Luna and Rita
Skeeter. Rita makes an interview with Harry about the
night when Voldemort returned. Then they publish it in
The Quibbler, which Luna’s Dad runs.
When Umbridge finds out about the article she bans The
Quibbler from Hogwarts. That leads to that all the
students read it in secret, and everyone knew the
truth about what happened.
One day Professor Trelawny is sacked by Umbridge. The
Umbridge woman is also trying to get her out of the
castle, but Dumbledore commands her to stay. At the
same time he brings a new Divination teacher, the
centaur Firenze. So Umbridge doesn’t have the chance
to pick a new teacher of her own.
On one of the DA lessons Dobby suddenly comes into the
room and warns them that Umbridge is on her way, she
now knows about the DA group. They all run in
different directions, but Harry is caught by Draco and
taken to Dumbledore’s office, where also Fudge and
some other Ministry workers are. Cho’s friend Marietta
told Umbridge about the group, and now she’s STRAFFAD.
She’s got the word ”sneak” written across her face.
Umbridge tries to make Harry tell about the group. But
Dumbledore says it’s he who started it. Fudge try to
take Dumbledore with him by force, but Dumbledore
hexes them all, and then went off with Fawkes. Then
Fudge make Umbridge the Mistress of Hogwarts.
Umbridge chose some students (Draco and his friends)
to be in an Inquisitorial Squad. Then Harry is
summoned to Umbridge where he is questioned about
Dumbledore and Sirius. Then they are interrupted by
loads of fireworks, sent off by Fred and George.
The next Occlumency lesson is also interrupted, as
Umbridge needs Snape’s help. But Harry remains in
Snape’s office. He finds a pensieve, and can’t stop
himself from looking into it. He finds himself inside
one of Snape’s memories. It’s in his fifth year, and
he’s doing the DADA OWL test. Harry sees his father
James, too, and Sirius, Remus and Peter. He follows
them all into the grounds after the test. There he
watches while James and Sirius are making fun of
Snape, James is trying to impress on Lily Evans.
Suddenly real Snape appears, furious, and takes Harry
back from the memory. Then he tells Harry he won’t
teach him more Occlumency.
Then it’s time for the Careers Advice. Harry talks to
McGonagall about it, he wants to be an Auror. Umbridge
is also listening, and interrupting.
Harry sneaks into Umbridge’s office to use her fire to
contact Sirius about James. Then Fred and George are
caught making trouble in a corridor. As Umbridge is
about to punish them they take their brooms and leave,
telling the other students they will have a joke shop
in Diagon Alley.
In the beginning of the final quidditch match,
Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw, Hagrid makes Harry and
Hermione follow him into the forest. There he
introduces them to Grawp, his halfbrother: a giant.
When they come back to the quidditch pitch they are
told Gryffindor won the Cup.
Then it’s time for the OWL tests. Harry does pretty
well, even in Potions. During their Astronomy test,
though, they see Umbridge and some others go to get
Hagrid sacked in the middle of the night. McGonagall
also hears Hagrid’s roars, and runs out to see what’s
happening. Then she’s Stunned by four of them. Hagrid
then fights them all, lifts up Fang and run away from
Hogwarts.
During his History of Magic test Harry falls asleep
and has a vision where Sirius is being tortured by
Voldemort. He goes to see McGonagall, but she’s at St.
Mungo’s. He talks to Hermione and Ron, and finally
agrees to try to find out if Sirius really is in the
Department of Mysteries. He uses the fire in
Umbridge’s office and talks to Kreacher, who tells him
Sirius isn’t at Grimmaulds Place. Suddenly Umbridge
pulls him back to the office. She’s caught Hermione,
Ron, Ginny, Luna and Neville, too. Hermione starts
admitting they’re trying to find Dumbledore to tell
him the weapon is ready to be used. Umbridge believes
her, and commands her and Harry to show her the
weapon. Hermione brings them into the Forest, talking
loud. The centaurs stop them. They take Umbridge with
them, Hermione and Harry are saved by Grawp. Then the
two of them run towards Hogwarts. The others meet
them, and they all go to London with some thestrals.
At the Ministry Harry discovers he’s been lured to the
Department of Mysteries by Voldemort. Sirius isn’t
there at all. He takes down a prophecy, and suddenly
they are surrounded by Death Eaters who want the
prophecy.
They run away from them. During the fights Hermione
and Luna get unconcious by spells, Ron is attacked by
brain-like things and Ginny hurts her ankle. In the
room with the archway Harry and Neville are surrounded
by the Death Eaters left. Then Sirius, Lupin, Moody,
Tonks and Kingsley run into the room and start
fighting the Death Eaters. The prophecy smashes.
Suddenly Dumbledore arrives and bind the Death Eaters.
Sirius is fighting Bellatrix, but is hit by a spell
and falls through the archway and is gone. Bellatrix
runs, and Harry after her. At the entrance Voldemort
appears. Dumbledore and Voldemort fight each other.
Fudge and some others arrive and see Voldemort just as
he Disapparates with Bellatrix.
Back at Hogwarts Dumbledore tells Harry about the
prophecy, and that either Harry or Voldemort have to
kill the other one in the end.
Harry tries to find a way to communicate with Sirius,
but he is told he can’t, that Sirius is gone.
The Weasley’s, Lupin and Moody follow Harry to the
Dursley’s, to tell them they will know if Harry is
treated bad, and then they will come to see how he is.

Analysis

The Names in the Book

Professor Binns
’Binns’ may come from ’bin’, which may indicate that
he’s ’rubbish’ at teaching.

Alphard Black
’Alphard’ is a star. Its name derives from ’ Al Fard
al Shuja’, which means ’ The Solitary One in the
Serpent’. Black isn’t too hard to analyse – it’s a
Dark family.
Alphard is the uncle to Sirius who helped Sirius to
get away from the family. He wasn’t bad as the rest of
the family.

Sirius Black
’Sirius’ is a star in the constellation Canis Major
(one of Orion’s hunting dogs). The name ’Black’ I
mentioned above.
Sirius’ animagus form is a dog, he’s also got a laugh
as a dog’s bark.

Broderick Bode
’Bode’ is an omen or a warning.
Bode being murdered by Death Eaters is a warning to
the Order and the rest of the wizard world that
something’s happening, that Voldemort’s back.

Cho Chang
’Cho’ is Japanese and means ’very’, ’extremely’.
’Chang’ can be used for a person who is quick thinking
and to the point. So ’Cho Chang’ means ’very quick
thinking’.
Cho is in Ravenclaw, and should therefor be very quick
thinking.

Dobby
In parts of Yorkshire and Lancashire a ’Dobby’ is an
alternative name for a Brownie, a Brownie that can’t
do anything right.
Dobby helps Harry all the time, but sometimes his
helping methods aren’t so good.

Albus Dumbledore
’Albus’ is Latin for ’white’ and ’wisdom’. ’Albion’,
which is almost the same as Albus, is an old word for
’Britain’. ’Dumbledore’ is an old English word, and it
means ’bumblebee’.
Dumbledore is on the right side, the good side. He’s
also old and wise, though we in this book see that
he’s now more old than he’s wise…

Dudley Dursley
’Dudley’ is, according to Encyclopedia Potterica, a
play on ’dud’, which means ’a boring person’, it’s a
British slang.
Dudley is really boring.

Petunia Dursley
The petunia is a flower that symbolizes anger and
resentment.
Petunia gets angry whenever she hears or talks about
her sister. She was jealous and angry with her.

Argus Filch
’Argus’ is a Greek hundred-eyed giant. The name means
’the all-seeing’. ’Filch’ means ’to steal’.
Filch sees and nows of everything that happens at
Hogwarts, he’s got eyes everywhere. That his last name
means ’to steal’ may reveal something that will happen
in a later book.

Firenze
’Firenze’ is the Italian name for Florence, where
Galileo Galilei, the greatest astronomer who ever
lived, was buried.
The centaur Firenze is a star-gazing creature, he’s
great at Astronomy.

Mundungus Fletcher
’Mundungus’ means ’tabacco’. And a ’Fletcher’ is a
maker of arrows.
Dung is always smoking.

Cornelius Fudge
’Fudge’ means ’to evade or dodge’, but it can also
mean ’deal with incompetently’.
Fudge refuses to accept that Voldemort is back, he
dodges the fact. He doesn’t deal with happenings in
such good ways, he’s not very competent.

Hermione Granger
In Farenhiet 451, there is a man called ’Granger’, and
he has a photographic memory, which come in use when
he memorizes books. In a book called ’Frindle’ there
is also a Miss Granger. She is very prim and proper,
and forces people to obey the rules.
Hermione is really good at school, and she is great in
remembering things, she’s read. She also is very
strict with rules, and hardly ever break any.

Grimmauld Place
’Grim’ reflects the atmosphere of the house, and
references Sirius’ animagus form. ’Auld’ is an old
Scottish word for ’old’, and the house is really very
old.

Rubeus Hagrid
’Rubeus’ may mean ’red’ or ’jewel’. Another
explanation that isn’t one hundred per cent sure, is
that it means ’harsh, alarming, or scary’. ’Hagrid’
means in old English that you are having a bad night.
As Hagrid is very big, it’s not hard to understand
that he can be scary. He also drinks a lot, and then
he may have really bad nights.

Kreacher
’Kreacher’ is a homonym of ’creature’, and it’s rather
degrading.
Kreacher is a House Elf, and a foul-tempered one. It’s
not hard to understand that he got that name…

Bellatrix Lestrange
’Bellatrix’ is a star, and the name means
’warrioress’. Also, ’-trix’ indicates a female. The
Italian word for female is ’donna’. That makes it
’Belladonna’, which is the name of a poison.
She is a Death Eater and fights a lot (and enjoys it,
too), and her name being a poison isn’t surprising.
She murdered Sirius.

Neville Longbottom
In The Lord of the Rings, Longbottom is where the
first Hobbit who cultivated a type of pipeweed lived.
Neville is really good in Herbology.

Remus Lupin
’Remus’ was one of the twins who was raised by wolves.
In Normandy and France, werewolves are called ’Lupin’
or ’Loup-Garou’. ’Lupine’ means ’wolf-like’.
Remus is a werewolf.

Draco Malfoy
’Draco’ means ’dragon’. According to Rowling, ’Malfoy’
(’Mal foi’) is old French for ’bad faith’.
Draco is in Slytherin, and he is dragon-like in his
behaviour.

Lucius Malfoy
’Lucius’ may have something to do with ’Lucifer’, the
Devil. It may also refer to Saint Lucius.
As Lucius is a Death Eater it’s not hard to connect
him with the devil.

Minerva McGonagall
’Minerva’ is the Roman goddess of wisdom, medicine,
the arts, dyeing, science and trade, and war.
Professor McGonagall is very wise, strict and fair.

Alastor Moody
’Alastor’ means ’avenger’. ’Moody’ means ’given to
changeable moods; temperamental’.
Alastor was the name of a demon that executed court
decrees in Hell. Mad-Eye could be seen carrying out
Ministry decrees by capturing Death Eaters. He is also
rather temperamental.

Lily (Evans) Potter
’Lily’ is the name of a flower symbolizing purity and
innocence.
She was murdered by Voldemort.

Severus Snape
’Severus’ is Latin for ’stern’ or ’harsh’. ’Snape’
means to rebuke or hurt someone, and a snape is a
rebuke.
Snape is very stern. He hates Harry and does anything
to hurt him psychically.

Dolores Umbridge
’Dolores’ means ’pains’ in Spanish. ’Umbridge’ is a
homonym of ’umbrage’, which is a feeling of pique or
resentment at some often fancied slight or insult.
’Umbra’ means ’shadow’.
Umbridge makes a lot of students, and professors, feel
pain. She’s on the edge of being on Voldemort’s side,
therefor the name meaning ’shadow’.

Voldemort
In French, ’Vole de mort’ means ’flight of Death’ or
’flight from death’.
Voldemort went through many spells to get everlasting
life, to avoid death.

Arthur Weasley
His name may refer to King Arthur. King Arthur died
during the war against the Roman emporer Lucius.
Mr. Weasley fights the Death Eaters, and Lucius
Malfoy. I just hope that Arthur doesn’t die during
this fight…

Other Things in the Book

In the beginning of the book, Dudley and his gang beat
up a boy called Mark Evans. It may be a coincidence,
but Rowling has made us think before that mayor things
in the plot may be coinsidences.

The Three Times Thing
There are several things were the number three
appears:
· Harry manages to produce the Patronus on his third
attempt
· When the owl carrying Mr. Weasley’s letter in the
beginning of the book knocks the window, Harry was
searching for the source a disturbance he had not made
for the third time
· He reads the second letter from the Ministry three
times
The number three often symbolizes completeness.

It’s quite interesting that Petunia knows so much
about the wizarding world, when she’s tried to forget
everything.

Harry’s got a lot more temper in this book. He’s a
teenager now, and he has so much feelings he has to
set loose, or else he will explode!

Everything in Grimmauld Place has something
”serpentish” about it. Perhaps all of the Black family
was Slytherins, but I doubt Sirius was. That’s
probably why he hates being in the house.

Mrs. Weasley’s boggart shows her greatest fears, and
one of them almost happens. Arthur is very close to
death later in the book, but thanks to Harry he
survives.

The weather in the first week at Hogwarts reflects
Harry’s mood very clearly. All week it’s cloudy and
dark outside, and Harry has a very bad time, with
detentions, no quidditch and all that stuff. Then,
when the weekend arrives, Harry is happy again, as
he’s rid of the detentions, there are no lessons, etc.
Then it’s sunny, really sunny.

At the Hog’s Head in Hogsmeade, Harry thinks there’s
something familiar about the barman. The place also
smelled of goats. Somewhere I’ve read that
Dumbledore’s brother made experiments with goats, and
that he did a crime, but I don’t remember what he did.
my thought when I read this part was: is it possible
that the barman is Dumbledore’s brother? I think
everything’s possible, as it’s Rowling who’s writing!
Seriously, now, I think that it’s possible that he’s
Dumbledore’s brother. It wouldn’t surprise me.

As Voldemort becomes aware of the fact that Harry and
he himself are so closely connected he uses the
information he’s got about Harry. When Kreacher is
told to get out of the kitchen before christmas, he
doesn’t only go out of the kitchen, but also out of
the house. He goes to the Malfoy’s, as Narcissa is a
Black family member. He tells her about Harry and
Sirius, and there Voldemort has a dangerous weapon
against them both.

It’s interesting that Voldemort’s enemy could have
been Neville. I’ve often thought: what if Voldemort
had marked Neville as his equal? Would Neville still
be alive, or would Voldemort already have killed him
and started taking over the world once again? It’s
hard to tell, and I’m curious about the answer on
that. But I’m afraid we’ll never get that answer.
There are many other things though, of which I’m sure
we’ll get answers. There are so many hints in all the
books about forthcoming events, it would take too much
time, and space, to mention them all.
