Title: GM 5.0 or 5.1?
Description: not 'free' anymore!
Monkster - September 1, 2003 10:39 PM (GMT)
it might on the people playing ur games....
Monkster - September 1, 2003 08:18 PM (GMT)
so, whats better? 5.0 or 5.1? it look likes GM is going commercial/shareware now. Now you have to register in order to get any of the new features...which is why im sticking with version 5.0 either until i decide to register or i become fluent in C++...whatever come first
Whats your opinion on having to register to get any of the new feature out of GM 5.1?
BomberJake - September 1, 2003 10:32 PM (GMT)
5.0 all the way. i don't wanna pay for a game maker. all the ideas i have can most likely be done in GM5.0, so why would i need 5.1? i know it has more features and all, but i don't think it'd have a huge effect on me then GM5.0. just my thoughts on this issue....
Monkster - September 1, 2003 10:33 PM (GMT)
GM 5.1 is 4 times faster than GM 5.0...that could have an effect on your game
BomberJake - September 1, 2003 10:35 PM (GMT)
well, i've already got a fast computer, and patience (dial-up for 4 yrs.), so i don't think it being faster would really have an effect on me either.
BomberJake - September 1, 2003 10:44 PM (GMT)
my games aren't too big. i don't think i'm ever gonna have a game more then 3mb, so even w/o gm5.1, it'll still load fairly quick (unless it's Win3.1 or something like that).

I agree with Mark. It is okay you need to register to get some of the new features. The first time he ask for money was a donation at 5 €/$. At 4 weeks 12 people donated. It is not much with a community at 6000 members isn't it?
This new features are not avaible before you pay. It is a way to make people paying.
People dont want to pay Mark for making a great software. And I don't understand why!
Burning Sheep Productions - September 2, 2003 08:02 AM (GMT)
The community has 10000 members Snabela.
snabela - September 2, 2003 10:39 AM (GMT)
Yes. Right now. But this is over a half year ago.
Erik - September 2, 2003 11:29 AM (GMT)
I registered, and I can assure you thet the new features are worth every penny. But aside of that, we are talking about the easiest game making prog I ever saw, with many easy features, powerful engine etc. etc. and I don't think that you can expect to get all that just for free. And he isn't asking much at all, -the only problem is that he makes expenses in the development, and the peopel who use the program are the only people you can rightfully ask to pay. So: He does.
Monkster - September 2, 2003 04:19 PM (GMT)
So hes milking the GM cash cow? But just what are his expenses that he makes making GM?
snabela - September 2, 2003 04:27 PM (GMT)
He use money for the copyright, the forum, the domain, etc.
Monkster - September 2, 2003 04:45 PM (GMT)
i guess...GM is shareware now and theres nothin anyone can do about it. <_<
Burning Sheep Productions - September 4, 2003 08:21 AM (GMT)
Just pay the fee and be completely free.
casegrinder - September 8, 2003 02:51 PM (GMT)

its the same as the beta, DLL and multiplayer functions are restricted to registered users...so if u haven't registered, then u should stick with v5 or do the "other" thing. ;)
