Attack: Divine Dragon Magic -- Drawing upon the demonic energy of his Dragon heritage and the shamanic lore of his mother's people, Chiriko wields the rarest, most potent form of magic. Chiriko has access to a wide variety of spells, including: elemental attacks, status effects, demonic and dragonic powers, and special effects. At this point, Chiriko can only use low-level, perhaps one or two moderate-level, spells, but as he grows and develops his powers he will learn a diverse array of more powerful spells.
Attack- 35 Speed- 13
Description: Chiriko is a small, waifish boy, thirteen years old but looks to be no older than eight or nine. He stands exactly four feet tall, weighs about 95 pounds, and his build is best described as puny or sickly. His physical frailty is caused by the intense stress exerted on his body by the immense mystical energies contained within his mind and soul. His physical form is predominantly human, he appears to be an ordinary boy, and one could not tell he is Half-Demon except for two things: his right foot is a dragon claw, and his left hand is also like that of a dragon. Chiriko has a fair complexion, dotted with a few, light freckles, and delicate, almost feminine, facial features. He has deep, emerald-colored eyes which simultaneously hold both the innocent playfulness of a child and the focused seriousness of a scholar. He has shoulder-length, silky brown hair, tied into a spiked tail at the top of his head, with two thick strands framing his face. He typically wears loose-fitting, formal Chinese style robes; his outer jacket is green silk lined in red with long, wide sleeves; his inner robes are light yellow tied with a crimson silken sash, and he wears black canvas Chinese-style shoes. Although his voluminous, oversized robes seem quite unwieldy and unsuited for adventuring and battle, he has learned to move gracefully in them and actually utilizes his flowing clothing in battle to distract and dazzle the eyes of opponents, allowing Chiriko to dodge and evade blows. He wields a Ceremonial Katana, forged from his father's fang and blessed by his mother's magic; the blade is an ancient green color and is inscribed with Dragon-characters and Phoenix-script. Chiriko is a Half-Dragon Demon, and his demonic powers wax and wane with the cycle of the Moon: on the new moon his demonic powers recede and he becomes full Human; during the full moon his demonic powers become dominant and he takes on Dragon form. As a full human, Chiriko is physically stronger and more energetic (like any typical thirteen year old) then his normal, half-demon form. Thirteen years is young for humans, and among Dragons it is practically infancy; in his Dragon form, Chiriko is small (about the size of a duck), with platinum scales, golden claws, and emerald eyes. Dragon Chiriko has a pair of developing wings which allow for very limited flight for a very short duration (his range of movement while flying in this form is the same as a normal human).
Personality: Chiriko is a compassionate, intelligent boy with a complex, somewhat paradoxical, personality. He learned to read at the age of three, and by five he had begun to study the I Ching, astrology, and Classical Chinese poetry; it was decided that he would be a scholar and an official. Most of his life has been spent studying under the officials in the Ocean Palace of his Dragon King father or with the Elders of his mother's people; as a result, Chiriko is a shy, serious, introverted boy and has some difficulty relating with others. Chiriko typically projects a calm and composed, tranquil aura and seems aloof and free from the worries of the mundane world. On the surface Chiriko seems to be easygoing and in control of his emotions, but he expends a great deal of mental energy maintaining this calm exterior and is actually quite insecure and anxious; he is often frustrated, even annoyed, by those who are emotional (and in his mind, irrational) When he does experience emotions they are often powerful and overwhelming, melting away the layers of maturity to expose a somewhat poorly adjusted child. When in unfamiliar surroundings and around those whose motives he is unsure of, Chiriko is guarded and stoic, but he will also use his innocent, immature appearance to manipulate others; when he does trust someone and lets his defenses down, he displays a playful, carefree, and childish side which endears him to most people. He has a wide range of interests, spending most of his free time playing the flute and zither, reading, composing poems, and practicing magic; but he also makes time for such childish pursuits as flying kites, chasing bugs, and playing with other children. Chiriko has a strong sense of duty and justice, and he has a strong, almost overbearing, conscience; he feels compelled to do what he feels is right, and will sacrifice his own life to defend his loved ones and innocents. He is a kind, compassionate, gentle child, and even feels pity towards his enemies; and yet he will not hesitate to attack and kill those who threaten the lives of friends, family, and the innocent. Usually, Chiriko avoids direct physical confrontations, preferring to use his mind and magic. Chiriko also has a strong sense of loyalty, particularly to his family and he puts his parents on a pedastal. He can be awkward around girls that he likes, and possesses a silly, boyish charm. Being thirteen, Chiriko is beginning to enter adolescence, and because he is a Half-Demon the stresses on his mind, emotions, and body are particularly intense; gradually he is displaying the erratic and confusing behavior of a teenager. At the new moon, when Chiriko becomes full Human, the childish and immature side of his personality becomes dominant, and he is like any other thirteen year old. During the full moon, when he becomes full Dragon, the serious, stoic side is dominant, and his wisdom is comparable to the Ancient Dragons.
Origins: In the great Central Sea which lies between the Land of the Rising Sun [Japan] and the Middle Kingdom [China] is the mysterious Isle of Penglai. Penglai is a sacred place where the Divine, Demonic, and Human realms intersect; Heavenly Immortals, Demons, and Humans peacefully coexist on this shrouded island. One century ago, Tian-xing-long (the Divine Celestial Dragon) strayed from the Way of Righteousness and fell to Earth. During the fall he lost himself, and became possessed by rage and vengeance. He came down in the Central Sea and went on a rampage, slaughtering Human, Demon, anything in his path. The Dragon King of the Central Sea, fed up with his celestial cousin's violence, led an army of ocean demons and went to challenge the rampaging Dragon; but the Fallen Dragon slayed the Dragon King of the Central Sea, and decimated the demon army. For decades the Fallen Dragon spread terror throughout the Central Sea, leaving carnage and widespread destruction in his wake. Twenty years ago, the Dragon turned its greedy eyes towards the Isle of Penglai. The High Priestess of Penglai at this time was well over 120 years old, and when she saw the rampaging dragon and realized she would have to fight it, she promptly had a heart attack and died. Panicked, the islanders found a relative of the late Priestess, a 16-year old great-great niece, quickly ordained her, and dumped her on the beach as a sacrifice for the Fallen Dragon. But Fate has a warped sense of humor, and the terrified girl unknowingly channeled energy in her hand, releasing a blast of Holy Magic at the Dragon's head which knowcked the beast backwards. Although to the islanders cowering in their homes it had appeared that the young priestess had slayed the dragon, in reality the attack was little more than a slap in the face; but it had knocked Tian-xing-long back to his senses. Looking down at the girl, he fell in love just by laying eyes on her. He quickly reverted to his Human form and was soon on his knees before her pledging his undying love; they were married within a month. When he realized the horror and destruction he had had caused, Tian-xing-long set to repairing the damage and sought to atone for his sins. The inhabitants of the Central Sea (both Human and Demon) began to admire and respect the Dragon for the sincerity of his actions, and soon persuaded him to fill the vacant throne of the Dragon King of the Central Sea. Seven years after they first met on the shores of Penglai, the couple gave birth to their first (and to this point, only) child, a son named Chiriko. Chiriko grew up in the sheltered environment of his father's palace deep within the Central Sea and on the divinely protected Isle of Penglai. The Humans of Penglai consider Half-Demons to be the perfect balance of the Human and Natural worlds, while the Demons of the Central Sea view the Mystics of Penglai as their equals; as a result Chiriko is completely unaware of the Human, Demon, Half-Breed prejudices (and is in for some serious culture shock during his adventures in the Land of the Rising Sun). Since the age of five, most of Chiriko's life has been devoted to study and cultivating his magic; he has had many illustrious teachers including Lao-tzu, Confucius, and the Buddha (it pays to have a demigod father). Several months ago, Chiriko's parents became aware of a terrifying imbalance of power originating in the Land of the Rising Sun which threatens the existence of the entire Cosmos. His parents, both trusting in their son's abilities and sure that his appearance would not arouse suspicions, have sent Chiriko to the Land of the Rising Sun to investigate this growing chaos, seek out its source, and do all in his power to contain and neutralize this threat. After several months, Chiriko has finally arrived in Japan and is ready to begin his mission . . . .
Sample RP: A warm spring breeze sighed through the tranquil glade and caught some strands of Chiriko's hair, causing them to tickle his nose; be brushed the hair out of his face, then he too sighed as he enjoyed the beauty of this peaceful forest on this lazy afternoon. He lingered in this dreamy moment for a few seconds before dragging himself back to reality, and then he turned to survey the clearing. The rest of his party had chosen this place to set up camp for some much needed rest; for the past day and a half, Chiriko and his comrades had been in a life-and-death struggle with a Plague Demon who had been wiping out entire villages in Musashi's Domain. The battle had been intense, two of his friends had been infected with the Black Death, and Chiriko was forced into the front lines of the battle. Exhausted, Chiriko summoned the last of his energy to cast a Holy Spell of Binding; chains of platinum energy began to materialize as Chiriko brought his fingers together and started to chant in some long forgotten language. The mystic chains began to surround the raven-headed demon, and, quickly determining the source of the spell, the Plague Demon raised its dark, rusted Katana and made to cleave the boy in twain; but it was not fast enough, and the mystic bonds seized the Demon, the Katana only inches from Chiriko's skull. Chiriko was deathly pale, he was sweating profusely, and his pulse was racing; he knew he couldn't keep the spell up for much longer, and cried out in a strained voice, "Strike!"
The grey wolf-demon Assassin, the only one of his comrades still on her feet, heard the command and instantaneously unsheathed the silver Cross Dagger given to her by the blind monk. She lunged forward, sailing over Chiriko's head, and plunged the blessed blade into the beast's throat. The demon writhed momentarily, then disintegrated in a flash of black light. Chiriko collapsed in exhaustion, but his battle was far from over, as he spent the rest of the night working with an ancient priestess from a nearby village on developing a cure for the Plague. Just thinking about it caused Chiriko to yawn.
