Okay, a couple days ago I finally got back the last of the anime that my parents were witholding and at the top of the stack was all three seasons of Slayers. Yay, reunited with Zelgadis-sama and Gourry-kun! Um, and the other characters, but let's not forget who's really important here. Xelloss . . . not much of a favorite, maybe because he likes to spend too much time and energy on annoying Zelgadis. Zangulus and Valgaav are also pretty cute. And I like Amelia, despite her annoying habits that everyone seems to spin way out of proportion. Come on, everybody has (or should have) a younger sister or friend like her: love 'em even when you want to swat them sometimes cause they're bugging you. And I am utterly for her being with Zelgadis; they're so cute together! (And she won't pose as much threat when Zel's fangirl army finally makes its' move and we carry off our king. Ha ha. :D ) Oh, and if you actually pay attention, he gets to liking her pretty well too.

The storyline's also great, even though I've read where some people think it's weak. My favorite season is probably Next; I love a happy ending. I remember watching this on Korean TV and their editing was kinda strict (maybe somewhat akin to Cartoon Network but I can't say for sure) and they cut out Gourry and Lina's kiss so I had to wait until I bought the DVDs to actually see that bit. I don't care much for the OVAs or movie: lack of bishounen and I hate Naga. But the series is great; Slayers is my favorite anime and I'm really happy to be able to watch it all over again (and over and over and over . . .)

Yay! Gourry is sweet, but Zel is still my favorite. I really like Amelia, even though I've always been just the tiniest bit reserved about her not-a-relationship with Zelgadis. Probably because I think Zel doesn't have the confidence to embark on a journey upon the choppy waters of love. Amelia makes me giggle.

Don't knock Xellos, though. He might have a horrible English voice actor, but I like the unpredictability of his character. (even though I was spoiled about the Mazoku thing.)He's like Amelia: annoying, but entertaining.

As for Zangulus, the only thing I can say is that he has horrible taste in women. But I was particularly pleased when he showed up in Next.

It is surprising that Next is the season with the happiest ending. That season was widely regarded to have the strongest plot, which is a trait I have come to associate with bitter-sweet endings, or even downright horrifying endings. But Next is really happy at the end. In Shakespearian comedic form, it even ends with a wedding!

Oh, I'm not picking on Xelloss' English VA; it's not that bad. Only English VA in Slayers I didn't care for was the first couple Amelia episodes with Joani Baker; good heavens, it sounded like Amelia had a bad cold. I met Veronica Taylor once at Anime Vegas too, she's so nice. Yeah, Zangulus marrying Martina amuses me too; he's cute that he deserved maybe a little better (I think he'd look kinda cute with Sylphiel if they could get past the difference that she adores Gourry and he despises him, or at least that Gourry's stronger.)

I'm going to sound pretty shallow here: I can't get past their clashing colour schemes.

Sylphiel needs to wean herself off of her dependancy from Gourry, though. Lina's got Gourry by the balls, in more ways than one.

But jeez, I read a fic once where Martina and Zangulus had a son called Langdelin, who called himself the virtuous paladin of the Monstrous Zoamelgustar. >_< Langdelin ended up with Naga's less-than-spectacularly-endowed daughter (although she's trying her damnedest), which is ironic in more ways than one.

Then again, I also once read a short fic about Zangulus and Gourry that was borderline slash, although it was exceedingly funny, which made use of the fact that swords are common phallic symbols. (I see your shwartz is as big as mine!)

Fanfics are fun.

But seriously, I have a hard time seeing Zangulus' marriage as lasting, giving Martina's flighty nature. I never really had any problems with his deserving Martina at all, though, since I never gave him much thought.

I have a friend who thought Vrumugun was sexy.

Well, Vrumugun wasn't that bad . . . even though he's balding.

Hey, quick question, how would the relationship have turned out if Amelia had actually given Zel mouth-to-mouth in that lake dragon episode in NEXT? Cause he was faking being unconscious and we all saw him blush when she suggested it.

Vrumugun wasn't balding. He just has a friar's haircut. He's probably too young to be balding, considering Gourry's the oldest of the human main characters. (in his early 20s at the start of the series)
