Title: Neon Genesis
Description: anybody heard of it?
Fang-chan - January 26, 2006 12:02 AM (GMT)
The first time I ever saw Neon Genesis was in 2004. (okay,I'll give you the "actual" date) It was in October on the 8th. (my B-day!!!!) I was totally all over the show. I was soooo hyper that I jumped on top of my bed for about 20min. saying, "I LOVE IT!!!!!!." Weird, huh? Anyways, the characters are great and some of them are just HOT. I don't really think that this topic will be a hot one. So, if anyone out there is willing to talk about Neon Genesis, I'm there!

How can you be a self-respecting anime fan and not know EVA? It's like being a Science-Fiction fan without ever having seen an episode of Star Trek. Even if you don't like it, you can't escape it.
Then again, I don't see any particularly hot guys in EVA. I mean, there are Kaworu and Kaji but other than that... Kaworu's pretty cute, but he's made it pretty clear that he likes the boys, or at least Shinji.
Fang-chan - February 2, 2006 01:03 AM (GMT)
If you imagine Shinji about 5 years from now, he'll be one hot hunk of a man!! I heard that the creator of Neon Genesis got an award for his incredible imagination for the story. Isn't that cool? :) I wish that I could get an award for somethin! <_<
Mishi - February 2, 2006 08:12 PM (GMT)
XD But I don't think he'll live that long, will he? Aren't he and Asuka like the last people on Earth?
Fang-chan - February 3, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
I think so? Anyways, have you seen the episode where you get to see Shinji naked?! Oho!! I love it!! (I know I'm a perv) <_<
Mishi - February 4, 2006 12:54 AM (GMT)
Fang-chan, that's not being a perv. It's a perfectly normal fangirl reaction. Why, I remember the time little Ari was watching Inuyasha and she saw Sesshoumaru smile and she yelled to her mom in the next room: "MOM, CAN I FRENCH THE TV?!"
Fang-chan - February 4, 2006 03:33 AM (GMT)
Now THAT'S funny!!! Nyahahahaha!! :P
Mishi - February 4, 2006 03:50 PM (GMT)
And you wouldn't believe some of the unintentional innuendo I blurt out about certain anime characters.
Fang-chan - February 8, 2006 12:38 AM (GMT)
Really? Hmm. (I don't even wanna know)

Bringing us back to topic....*glare*
ADV announced a couple years ago that they are starting production on a Live Action version of Eva with the graphic powers of Weta Workshop, the CG company behind the LotR series. Of course, we'll probably Americanize the crap out of it and make it crap(i.e. they've changed Asuka's name to Kate Rose)...but there's a chance for it yet. :ph43r:

Kate Rose? *insert obscenity here* I'm just wondering how they'll deal with the ending. Apparently it really screws the mind.
P-chan - February 23, 2006 01:31 AM (GMT)
It does, but only because they ran out of stuff to do so they made the ending as obscure as they could so no one questioned it. In typical Hollywood fashion they will screw up the entire show, especially the ending, and have everything turn out all happy dandy because Americans, apparently, can't handle the unpleasantness that is real life. :ph43r:

And here you were saying there was hope for it yet.
Apparently the director of Titanic is making a live-action version of Battle Angel Alita. The Montreal Gazette calls this 'returning to his sci-fi roots'. Roots which I didn't know he had, but then again, I'm pop-culture illiterate. No doubt that particular caper will have the same result as your predictions concerning EVA.

Actually I know for a fact that he's already planning on breaking that show. First of all, he's making it in 3-D. That and he is going to remove the whole aspect of the show how she only remembers pieces of her past when she is fighting. His reasoning for this is, essentially, that as a 'fan of the manga' he doesn't think that it makes sense that she does that. This is because he's an idiot who's never actually read the manga. I'm not looking forward to this adaptation.
On topic: Eva rocks! ;) :ph43r:

just to say something
when I was introduced into anime
Neon Genesis was THE show
if you didn't know about it
or hadn't seen it, you could not say you
were a true anime fan at all
maybe that's why I'm a behind the scenes
anime lover (I'm only open about it on this website)
because I hadn't seen a single episode
of it until about a month ago
it was good, but I'm a true Gundam fan
anything other than Gundam giant robots
I don't really care about, so I don't really
watch Neon Genesis

EVA *is* a classic, but that doesn't mean you have to be ashamed not to have seen it. I mean, no one persecutes anyone else for not having seen Captain Harlock or Lupin III or Astroboy.

The people that say that you aren't a true anime fan if you haven't seen Eva are retards.
You don't have to have seen a certain show in order to enjoy a type of entertainment that includs, literally, thousands of different shows. Especially when that show is as convoluted and hard to follow as Eva.
The simple fact of the matter is, Eva is like Akira. It's definitely a good show, but it's very much not something that everyone can enjoy. And they are both shows that are definitely not one of the first shows that someone who is just getting into anime should watch. I made this mistake and watched Akira when I was young and just learning what anime was and it almost ruined anime for me. Luckily, I realized that Akira wasn't the norm for anime and was able to find other things to gently guide me into it. Of course, now I can watch Akira without any negative effects because I understand the absolute diversity of it all.
This all goes for Eva as well, while I would recommend it to many people, I wouldn't recommend it for everyone, nor would I think any less of anyone who hasn't seen it.
