Title: Hi. I'm New Here
Description: At last, a place of no yaoi fan pairings
Mishi - January 9, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
Assumed Name: Mishi (Full name would be Mishiru Eruji, only I never use it)
Age: 17
Currently Studying: Visual Arts CEGEP pre-university program
Interests: sci-fi, fantasy, drow, elves, magical girls, RPGs, CANON yaoi and shounen-ai
Series I trip over: Slayers, Trigun, Yu-gi-oh (the manga), and many others, though I can't really think of them now.
Rant: YES! Here I am free from my friends' suggestions of Elric-cest and Roy/Ed slash and all the creepy suggestions!
It all began one lunch period when two years ago. I was in Sec. 4 and hanging out with my friends. We had a bit of an unnofficial anime club. It was fun. We talked about Inuyasha a lot, mainly because little Ari was completely smitten with Sesshoumaru, dropping Ryou Bakura like a hot potato in the process. Every lunch period someone would bring some new tidbit of information or a drawing to the table and we would laugh and cackle and talk animatedly.
But one lunchtime, little Ari, the junior member of our clique (being two years younger than us) said: 'Don't you think Naraku and Sesshoumaru would make a hot couple?' I shuddered uncomfortably. After that, it was Adult!Rin and Sesshoumaru, and of all things, Kohaku and Sesshoumaru! For a while, when the Inuyasha thing died down, it was alright, and then when my friends started tripping over Naruto, that was fine too. (Although Millie, being an insufferable yaoi fangirl ^_^ was into SasuNaru, she was discouraged by their big showdown when Naruto said Sasuke was like a brother to him)
And then, when I thought the incident was properly isolated... then came FMA. All sorts of fan-pairings: Roy/Ed, Roy/Al, Al/Ed, Envy/Ed, Envy/Ed/Al?? Geh... Scary. I run for cover now.
I have a pretty typical quote among my friends, which pretty much sums up my objection to fan-pairings: "Can't they all just be friends?!"
When I told them I didn't think all the FMA boys were gay (with the possible exception of Envy), they asked me if I could prove they were straight. *muttermuttermutter* I love my friends dearly, but if the FMA boys were gay, I think I would be able to pick up more hints then accidental touches of homoerotic tension. (And actually, I've read the forty first chapters of the manga, and I haven't seen one accidental touch of homoerotic tension.)
Besides, Roy is really plain-looking, and their obsession and me=actually want to see the series myself and not be told every single thing that happens and every single plot-twist=out of their obsessive loop=I don't much care anymore.
Meh.
And one day, while I was surfing. I found this place. And I am relieved.
I am new here, please be kind.

Hello and welcome, Mishi! I'm Nans, a regular in this asylum - I mean, club! Yes, it's nice to have a place away from all of those disturbing yaoi ideas, isn't it? I mean, seriously, where do they get that stuff?? It's a little scary, ne? I count myself lucky that none of my friends are into yaoi, and CATCH! ::heaves a Nans Welcome Glitter Balloon at Mishi, which explodes on impact and covers her in silver glitter goo and colorful, curly ribbons. A button appears on her shirt that reads "Bishonen Addict - No Yaoi, Please.":: And another perfect hit! Anyway, as I was saying, at least I don't have to worry about my friends trying to force yaoi on me; I just have to be careful when I surf. Ah, well! At least there are places like this! Have fun, Mishi, and I'll see you around the board!

 I find myself asking that whenever I stumble upon a yaoi story on ff.n!Unless it's a canon coupling of course...
Mishi - January 16, 2006 10:16 PM (GMT)
Now canon yaoi couples... those are fun... I just got into Kyou Kara Maou and I am so totally rooting for Yuuri and Wolfram. (If that isn't cannon, then just what was Wolfram doing in Yuuri bed?! ...I'll shut up now.)
Wonderful series.
NansJns - January 19, 2006 05:23 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah, if it's canon, that's fine! My main objection to yaoi isn't the homosexuality, it's that so much of it takes two people who are clearly straight and not interested in each other that way - or are mortal enemies - and puts them together. It's untrue to the characters! But canon, that I can deal with it with minimal objection. Usually, what objections I have are "Aww, I wanted him for ME!" ;)

Hah. That's where we differ. I'm not really possessive about bishies. (We can't have them, anyway.)
Selphie Tivrusky 5 - February 10, 2006 04:42 AM (GMT)
it's that the worst part of it all?
seeing them there, wishing you could just, I don't know, LOVE them.
but sadly, they're just pen and paper...
wow, that was depressing
hey, I'm pretty new here.
I've been checking this place out for a long time,
but just not too into talking to lots of people.
I'm sort of a behind-the-scenes bishy lover.
Mishi - February 10, 2006 05:24 PM (GMT)
Indeed. It *is* the worst part. The best guys are always either taken, gay, or imaginary. Mix'n'match.
The closest we fangirls can ever get to our bishounen is stalking their voice actors or authors. Poor substitute. I mean, Crispin Freeman is sort of handsome and I love his voice, but meeting him in person can't compare to the dry, rough, hard feel of Zelgadis' skin on the palm of your hand. Nor would meeting Hideyuki Kikuchi be the same as being struck speechless by Vampire Hunter D's sublime beauty, nor would meeting Seki Toshihiko be the same as having tea with Count D.
Selphie Tivrusky 5 - February 13, 2006 10:47 PM (GMT)
wow, that's only SLIGHTLY creepy... in other words
just plain creepy
but I do agree with you on the whole voice actors thing
I have fallen in love with Steven Blum's voice (Spike from Cowboy Bebop)
and Kenshin/Legato's voice, Richard Cansino (also known as Richard Hayworth)
those are definitely some sexy voices
Mishi - February 15, 2006 01:55 AM (GMT)
I thought Kenshin's voice was Shannon Weaver.
Selphie Tivrusky 5 - February 20, 2006 02:44 PM (GMT)
no... definitely Richard Hayworth...
well, in the dubbed english television series at least
I don't remember the guy's name in the Samurai X dubbed version
No-Chan-San - February 21, 2006 04:02 AM (GMT)
L Shanon Weaver is the english voice actor for the OAVs, actually.. <=]
Is it Richard Hayworth? I dunno, but I love the tv show's Kenshin voice.. I wish he would do more stuff, but I haven't seen him in much since.
I'm also alone in that I LOVE the VA for Tamahome in the dub. *Sighs happily* Then, they had to go and change him for the last OAV.. sad sad...
Heh.. Welcome Mishi! (to try and keep this semi-on topic...)
Mishi - February 22, 2006 02:03 AM (GMT)
My favorite dub voice actor is Crispin Freeman, the guy who did Zelgadis. Did I already say so?
He's got such a sexy voice... And he's not a bad singer, either.
Selphie Tivrusky 5 - February 22, 2006 03:41 AM (GMT)
isn't it awful when someone with a dreamy voice...
just can't sing?
Mishi - February 22, 2006 08:51 PM (GMT)
I dunno. I've never really come across the problem. What's awful is when a voice actor is asked to perform a song for a CD... and can't sing. Or else, butchers a classic. *coughcoughMegumiHayashibaraFlyMeToTheMooncoughcough*

How is a Frank Sinatra song appropriate for Evangelion anyway? It's not even as if they end up in space.
Selphie Tivrusky 5 - February 23, 2006 08:07 PM (GMT)
I was never disagreeing with you
I love Frank Sinatra
I've only seen maybe 3 episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion
In my opinion, I like the ending song
Yes, it's true that Frank Sinatra has a totally dreamy voice
and eyes prettiest enough to battle any bishounen
But I don't dislike the ending song
Mishi - February 23, 2006 09:36 PM (GMT)
I wasn't commenting on Frank Sinatra's looks or ability to sing. I just find it wierd to hear a western classic for a male voice sung by a woman with a thick japanese accent.
Selphie Tivrusky 5 - February 27, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
oh, I see, better I hope
It's probably the same when I try to sing
German arias. I may be of German heritage
but I sure can't speak it very well.
Mishi - February 28, 2006 04:33 AM (GMT)
I've been told by a Chinese friend of mine that my pronunciation of Japanese is fairly accurate.
I wonder whether her judgement can be trusted?
Selphie Tivrusky 5 - March 1, 2006 03:46 AM (GMT)
ah, who knows
I'm hardly any good at English
Mishi - March 1, 2006 10:22 PM (GMT)
Heh. As long as you can speak it, read it, and your eventual career doesn't rely much on spelling, you're alright. Besides, I don't see anything wrong with your English.
Selphie Tivrusky 5 - March 1, 2006 11:29 PM (GMT)
lol, it's not my written english I'm worried about
I'm an awful public speaker, terrified of the stage
in real life I'm really a very quiet person
so when I do come up with something to say
I can't ever say it properly because I'm at a loss of words
so that's why I'm not very good at spoken english
because I hardly speak on interesting issues
other than "what movie you see this weekend?"
get it?
Mishi - March 2, 2006 02:34 AM (GMT)
Ah. I'm an awful public speaker too. I stutter, and it gets worse when I get nervous, or when I speak in French. (because then I'm always searching for words)
Selphie Tivrusky 5 - March 2, 2006 03:32 AM (GMT)
speak my mind!
when ever I have a discour for French
even if I'd practiced and written down
everything I was going to say
there's no way in Hades that I could ever do it perfectly
gah, French
I like Italian because it flows
and I like German because... I'm partially German
Mishi - March 2, 2006 10:21 PM (GMT)
Well, I'm half French-Canadian on my mom's side, so it's *literally* my mother tongue. But so's English, and when my mother got pregnant with my brother and was subsequently busy taking care of the pint-sized annoyance, I spent a lot more time with my English-speaking Dad. Once my brother was able to talk, he refused to speak French, even though he could understand it perfectly, and so we ended up speaking English to him. We got used to speaking English at home, and I speak English with my friends, and what with all the English, the only people I spoke French to were my teachers.
Then I decided, screw this, and went to an English Pre-university.
And that is the story of why my spoken French is so stammered.
Selphie Tivrusky 5 - March 3, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
lol, nice life story
when I was a wee little tyke
I had a nanny, and she's Portuguese
she was and still is one of the best people in my life
obviously, I no longer have a nanny
but she's now our cleaning lady
we pay her a nice penny every week and
she comes and makes clean this house of pigs
my greatest regret in life is that she didn't
teach me Portuguese
I would give anything to be able to speak
another language
but not a major organ
