Title: Howl's Moving Castle
Description: Need I say more?

NansJns - July 2, 2005 06:11 AM (GMT)
I saw "Howl's Moving Castle" today! I've been looking forward to seeing it since I heard about it months ago. I liked it very much, though it was one of the oddest things I've seen in a while. And it's one of those movies you have to see a couple of times to fully get, I think. There were a few things I still wasn't clear on at the end, but I'm hoping future viewings will clear them up. But I did like it quite a bit; the story was interesting and involving, the animation was lovely, the characters were interesting, and Howl himself was hot! Weird, but hot!

Has anyone else seen it yet? :)

*raises hand*

I saw it!! We got tickets for the sneak peek in our area and I LOVED it! I wanted to see it again... but it's no longer in our area... so sad.

I just finished the book and Howl is such a punk... so much more than in the movie. LOL

I just love Howl! He's so funny!

Edit:
Never mind I can see it again!! I decided to look up the theatre that shows the independent and foreign movies and it's there! yay!!

I wanna see it...After all Hayao Miyazaki films rock!
Not to mention the book was extremely good...And from what I've seen from pictures online,Howl is very hot when Sophie accidentaly aids him in dying his hair black(that made me laugh a lot while I was reading the book)! That did happen in the movie right?
Was the movie true to the book?Tell me!

Was it, Kitsune Yurei? I haven't read the book; I was thinking about popping over to my local library and seeing if they had a copy. I'll keep that in mind.

Yep, the hair-dying happened all right! Man, Howl made such a fuss! And I loved Calcifer; Billy Crystal did him perfectly!

it's different from the book

the character's are pretty much the same, some have minor differences and you main plot is pretty much the same, but the surrounding story is completely different.

Both very good though.

Um, okay, I think I get it. . .

Ah, I saw that movie the first day it came out in my area. There were only about seven other people in the theatre, it was kinda sad...

Oh, and I belive if they had made the movie exactly like the book, it wouldn't have been nearly as exciting. Really, I loved that movie :D .

I've seen about 3/4 of that movie. It made me cry on certain parts but, over all, it was good!! :)

I recently read the book it was based. Movie Howl looks hotter, but I prefer novel!Sophie. At least HER hair doesn't 'look like starlight'. >_<

Yes, I believe the Howl in the movie looks more, dare I say, bishiful? xD I only watched, like, half of it in Japanese class and I love it! I like the fire demon dude.....Can't say that I remember his name though....

KFG24 - December 8, 2006 11:38 PM (GMT)
Calcifer. His name is Calcifer. And he rules!!!
Anyways I finally saw the movie! But I was very dissapointed. The book is just a lot better than the anime, sadly.
And I thought he'd said that her hair was twilight?

Starlight in the dub, apparently.

I dunno. I saw the movie first, so my mental image of Howl as the bishiful Miyazaki masterpiece is firmly anchored in my mind, but I remember a fanart of Sophie I saw on Deviantart based on Diana Wynne-Jones's description of her that I like much better than Miyazaki's very plain-looking Sophie. (I suspect she was based on the illustrations in the edition of the book that I read, which hardly does Howl justice... Although in retrospect, I can't see Movie!Howl fitting in on the streets of modern Wales, and even less wearing a battered WELSH RUGBY jacket.)

The book was more detailed and I think the story comes together better. But, while the Miyazaki movie is completely different, there were some added elements to the story that almost made up for the lack of cohesive plot. Blackbird!Howl had a lot of angst potential.

And hey, any excuse to have Crispin Freeman come in and say a few lines is right by me.

If I amy ask, where do you buy the book? Can I get it at Barns and Noble?

Mishi - December 18, 2006 08:29 PM (GMT)
Siony and I found it in a used bookstore on my street, but I'm sure you could get it at any big bookstore, like Chapters or Indigo or Coles or, sure, why not, Barnes and Nobles.

I don't think we have any Barnes and Nobles in Montreal.
