I bet most of you have already heard for it was in newtypes last issue but I just wanted to announce that Clamps doing this Alternate reality thing where each old and new character of theirs has something do do with each other. As was the case in XXXHolic, where a poor boy ends up working for this witch at I think it was some kinda bar and who shows up? Sakura and Syaoran. Dunno how they got there but they say they are from the land of Clow which ties into another book called Tsubasa. Which is about Sakura and Syaoran. Sakura's the princess of the land of Clow and Syaoran is an Archaeologist who moved to Clow with his father. And it goes on and on,
I highly suggest reading it, I found it to be fun and out there. :D

I may try to read it... I dunno I just don't really care for CLAMP. My not caring for CLAMP has come from so many people saying "It's CLAMP so it's good," They can put out crap and people will by it because it's CLAMP!

But I've heard actual good things about Tsubasa. So maybe I'll check it out... I dunno....

Kago - May 25, 2004 07:56 PM (GMT)
I like to refer to Tsubasa and XXXHolic as CLAMP's "Insults to themselves".
Why you may ask? Because Tsubasa is just an enormous spoof off of everything they've done previously, and in XXXHolic the witch girl even goes so far as to insult characters from other CLAMP titles.
So I highly recomend you read them, especially of you aren't a big fan of CLAMP, just too see how big they dis themselves.

Well, it certainly sounds interesting! It's always good to have a sense of humor about yourself, you know? I like some of CLAMP's titles; Magic Knight Rayearth and Card Captor Sakura are good. I found Clover pretty confusing, overall, and I've only read part of X/1999, so it's hard to judge. I love their artwork, though. So pretty! :D
Don't you like anything about CLAMP, Nie-chan? Not that it's any of my business, or anything.

Hey I love those guys, plus it does take alot of time to come up with stoires and drawing the art, I mean I actually think their goal isn't to sale everything they've ever made, but to show the world what they're thinking about. I also thought it was kind of neat that they would conncet each character to eachother. I found it to be very interesting. And no they arn't dising on themselfs. They arn't that stupid my friend. They actually came up with a cool sorry, I really enjoyed. :D

It's not that I don't like any CLAMP- it's more that I hate the mentality of "It's CLAMP so it's good." I'm not afraid to say "That sucks!" for CLAMP titles.

Awhile back at club we watched "Maiyuki-chan in Wonderland" - the STUPIDEST show EVER! The only reason it got voted was because it was CLAMP.

Me: "That was the stupidest show EVER!"

nameless club person: "But's it's CLAMP."

Me: .....

So I concluded - it's CLAMP so it can't be stupid. (WRONG!!!)

Over the years a bunch (and I mean a BUNCH) of comments like that have added up and now have caused my disgust of the CLAMP mentality. I've just gotten to the point that I'm like, "eww... CLAMP.."

But honestly, I'll still give it a shot to see if I like it or not. There are some CLAMP titles that I have enjoyed and there are somethat I have not. (Sometimes I don't like that particular art style.) I can say bad things about CLAMP *gasp* I know! How could I? (sense the sarcasm)

I have flipped through the Tsubasa book at MediaPlay - the art was pretty.

And if they're making fun of themselves I might actually really enjoy this...

a friend of mine has the first Tsubasa, but they way it sounds they destroy Cardcaptor Sakura, and the way this sounds is that they just destroyed all their really good titles. Though i've only read a few CLAMP titles, it's still something i like to read, since it was a CLAMP manga that was one of the first ones i got(Angelic layer).

I've read Tsubasa, my friend let me borrow it. And that other one looks interesting at least. They are funny, and my friend likes alot of them. But most of us can agree that "Maiyuki-chan in Wonderland" sucks! I read part of it, and, ew.... I dunno how someone can think CLAMP=good.

because majority rules. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it bad. And CLAMP has a long running history of making very well thought out, very well put together material. It's just like saying that a band that makes one song that you don't particularly enjoy is a sucky band. If you don't enjoy it, that's fine...just don't go out there and say that it sucks even though they are very popular and have been around for a while simply because they don't suck. I have perused a vomlume of Maiyuki-chan in Wonderland and I found it to be rather entertaining. It's all matter of opinion. :ph43r:

CLAMP is perverted. at least, that's what my friend says. I find it scary. and i don't even know why.

annie-chan - July 11, 2004 02:35 PM (GMT)
CLAMP has some perverted stuff in Chobits, but they also have some good titles that are appropriate, like Angelic layer and Magic Knight Rayearth.

repori88 - August 8, 2004 10:47 PM (GMT)
Pardon me for writing on a semi-dead post, but Annie-chan is right. I actually prefer the titles that some would seem more appropriate for little girls (Both of which she mentioned I love)

And I do like CLAMP, but there are titles by them that I don't like. (Namely Chobits and Miyuki-chan in wonderland Both of which completely are disgusting. I do own Chobits 1, but I read Miyuki in a bookstore)

kagome-chan - August 27, 2004 07:48 PM (GMT)
we are all perverted in our own way. Don't tell me you don't think naughty things someones.

nie-chan - August 27, 2004 08:05 PM (GMT)
I never think of naughty things. I'm always~ a good girl. ;)

But I agree with you I abhore Miyukichan - I've only seen the anime but why would I even want to see the manga? The anime was horrible and no point. I wouldn't touch Maiyuki-chan in Wonderland with a 10 ft. pole!

As if the Original "Alice in Wonderland" wasn't messed up enough, they had to go and make Miyuki Chan. I mean c'mon. They turned the White Rabbit into a scateboarding Playboy bunny. Wait... maybe thats not such a bad thing...
Hmmmmm... *Drifts off into Happy Place*... Hmmm... *Snaps back to reality*... Oh... yes...where was I? Oh... right... Bad Clamp! BAD! How dare you put such dirty thoughts into our heads! BAD!

Chobits on the other hand, I'm a big fan of. It may seem perverted, but once you get into the actual story, its not. It deals with some pretty heavy issues later on. Heck, just the little childrens book that Chi reads is alot deeper than some of the Manga I've read. And the fact that Chi's on switch is down "there" plays a VITAL role (no... THAT kind of role you sick freak) in the story later on. It's not something that they just threw in there just to attract the fan boys with the "activation" scene (though it did help). And though there are a few more "provocative" scenes (though not nearly as extreme as the first), they are presented in such a way that the story and emotions conveyed far outshadow any fan service shown.
Just because a manga features some nudity and implied sexual content is no reason to completely write it off as nasty and perverted. I mean look at things like Ranma 1/2 and Love Hina. They both feature explicit amounts of fan service, but their respective story's completely overshadow this.
All I'm really trying to say is give Chi a chance (though I still recomend she be kept out of the reach of small children or anyone with a dirty mind).
