Title: Geneon Licensing News
Description: Sad news for Pan Pan and Ty-Chou

Geneon has licensed 'Saiyuki: Reload' .. they announced it at Anime Central this weekend. Here's the bad news...
"Because of contractual obligations and other factors, Geneon will not be using the voice actors from the original Saiyuki series, currently being released by ADV Films."
Nice, huh? ;p At least ADV got 'Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu'..
The good news is they're releasing Fushigi Yuugi on 8 dvds, all with 7 or 8 episodes on them.. and the suggested retail price is $24.98..... Oh yeah. I'm buying them. Most definitely.

And WHY may I ask are they not using the same voice actors? It'll just make them sound funny!

:o *cries* . . . . . . .*ahem* i guess it's ok since it's only Saiyuki Reload... and Saiyuki Reload is nothing but filler episodes... Maybe adv can get Saiyuki Reload: Gunlock?

Maybe the VA's were contracted to a company that Geneon doesn't use for their recording.. Mostly, I think Geneon, aka PIONEER, is retarded and likes to do that sort of thing.
Though, ADV does the same kind of thing.. different VA's.. The biggest one I can think of is Slayers. The VA's for the TV show, which is NOT owned by ADV, are really quite good. A lot of fans of the show LOVE the english dub actors, but ADV refuses to use them! Except, that for "Slayers Premium" which is the ONLY movie/OAV with all the characters and not just Lina and Naga, they actually DID get most of the original cast from the TV show. Well, the only one I know for SURE that they got is Crispin Freeman for Zelgadis... That's the only one I personally really cared about ;)
OK.. that was convoluted.. carry on!!

I think the problem with the voice actors has to do with the voice actor's contracts and such. That and the VA's simply might not be available, like in the case of Tenchi Muyo GXP. Funimation did (or at least they say they did) make an attempt at getting ahold of the original voice actors to come back and resume their roles, but most of them either had other projects going on at the time or simply couldn't be reached.

Yes, I gave Saiyuki Reload a moment of silence. I do agree with Pan-Pan that it's not a TOTAL loss since Reload is mostly filler. But still, one of the main reasons I like the anime so much was because of the dubbing team. Both voice actors and the scriptors. The dub is just so freaking funny. I was sure they could have made Reload a bitmore worth watching with the dub. Oh well. It could have been worse. It could have joined Full Metal Alchemist with Funimation. *cries* T.T
I too will pray that Gunlock will be caught by ADV with the first series.

The only consolidation I have with Funimation getting FMA is that Funimation generally does a pretty good job with their Japanese/subtitled versions and they don't tinker too much with the scripts when they dub, a habit that ADV seems pretty fond of.
But I still think it's gonna be pure torture to hear Yusuke's, Kyo's, or (DEAR GOD NO) GOKU'S voice coming out of poor Ed's mouth. THE HORROR! THE HORROR! AGHHHHH!
*Runs away screaming*

I totally agree with you. Whenever someone complains that the dub is going to be horrible and oh no FUnimation got FMA - heaven forbid, that's easily solved - don't watch it dubbed.
Their subtitles are EXCELLENT - the best I've seen from any company. WHich means, I don't mind them getting titles that I like - so I can have good subtitle version.
It's not the end of the world if their going to do a horrible dub.
