Title: Fushigi Yuugi why does it cost so much?
Lazy_Gurl - April 12, 2004 03:30 PM (GMT)
I have a question... Why is fushigi yuugi so expansive on DVD? I was looking on amazon and it said that one dvd or volume was 100 and something! I was socked! Can anyone explain this?

Isn't this going off topic?

You're getting 26 episodes on dvd all at once. That is why it runs around $120. There are two sets, the Suzaku and Seiryuu.
It's pretty much a standard price for box sets that contain 26 episodes.
I'll get this moved to it's own topic....

I thought that that was probably the case! I just want to get the anime, but i they're so expensive... but then you have to think about the fact that they were translated.. .etc... and stuff like that... and you get more than one episode... I guess i have to ask for it on Christmas... or my birthday...or something! I just want to know what they put as the voices.... *curiosity* And why is it that tamahome's hair is green in the anime... [or at least i've seen pictures of him with green hair...] Maybe i'm seeing things? Who knows....... :huh: Anyway... at stores where i live the anime costs $30... And why are some of the manga different prices than the others [like, some are bigger in size, cost more, but give the same info that the normal size manga would...] <_< does anyone know?

The cost of the dvd set isn't bad compared to the only other way to get it is on VHS with 3 eps with the cost at $30 a tape - now you can find that cheaper by buying used and etc... (online shopping is GREAT for finding deals!)
The "normal size manga" use to not be the normal size manga.
FY is translted by Viz and their standard was the bigger book for $15. Then Tokyopop started their "authentic manga", which one of the catches is smaller size at $10. It went over soooo well that Viz made the change and now are printing their books at the smaller size and at $10.
I've heard that they had plans to go back and re-release the previous ones in the new format but I'm not sure if that is true and if it's true, when that will be.

Oh, ok! I never knew.. [obviously] That's really cool! :lol:

it's true, Nie-chan. They've already re-released the first couple ranma graphic novels. Topazora, my buddy, got the whole FY set (on DVD, I believe) for only $69 at some online company whose name I can't recall right now that was going out of business and needed to sell its stock. Can you believe her luck??? Oi! I actually have the whole thing on store bought VHS, except for the last OAV. Ow, my wallet. Ow, my wallet. I don't regret it really, but you know how it is.

um.. the real news for this thread is this:
Geneon (Pioneer) is releasing Fushigi Yuugi in separate volumes that retail for $24.98. Yes.. you see right..... $24.98. Not the $198 that the 4 disc box sets retail for.. o.O;
Yeah.
I THINK that they might have the 7/8 episodes on them, too, like in the box sets... The specs say that the first one has 180 min, I think.
Yeah. I'm buying them. SO SO SO buying them. Even though I love the box sets cuz I think they're gorgeous... They're just way too expensive. Every once in awhile you can find a used one for $80 but.. yeah. Never have that much cash at one time to blow!
I want the Ranma sets, too... *Whine*
