It's the one and ONLY convention in NC and I'm going to it!!!  My first convention...wow... ^_^ But the thing is that it's not until like...may. eheh.. But I still want to start getting ready for it now, but the problem is that don't really know how to make a cosplay costume  my mom can alter stuff for me but right now I don't have anything for her to alter. I wanted to go as xellos from slayers but I don't how to make the costume. help or advice anyone?? :(

Just put together some old stuff and have your mom do a little this and that to it, A costume doesn't really need to be perfect. Just have something with you that gives off that you're him. sorry I couldn't give you the best advice...But I hope it helps anyway :)

Yes get started now you'll find that if you wait till the month before your sewing some thing last minute...Also get lots of colorpics. I've tried to do a costume form black and white pictures needless to say the colors were off.....

Humm I looked though several pictures of xellos I would recomend some of the falowing ideas.
Most of this you a) all ready have or B) can get at wallmart.
A turtal neck cream color(You may have a hard time finding this....I spesnt a month looking for a brown turtal neck for my tsukasa costume) Check back in the miterial section and match the color of the turtal neck to the miterial and buy a yard or so (for the pice tied around the waist and ankles) Black pants any kind (I would think sweatpants it would give you that poofy leg..but could be to warm...) Boots well you can make boot covers or just were some brown shoes. Gloves white gloves shoudn't be to hard to find.

The cape try a local costume store see if they have one for a good price. Buy a pattren for a poodle skrit (they are simple to make.) and make that the top part of the cape. (You wouln't add the elastic waist and would leave part of the front open so you cuold get it on) The wig would be a costume store item as well. You would have to do a web serch for how to make it look like xellos seeing that I've never worked with one i cant really help you here.
The rest is detailed work. If you want to do some thing like the trim on the top part of the cape the make a iron on stuff that make fabric stick to other fabric, I can't think what is is called.....

Well have fun I hope that gave you some ideas on how to get started.....

also to go with the colored pictures, have pictures of different angles. So you can really see the detail and how the costume flows.

Yes... start now is good. It isn't fun sewing up till the day before you leave.. and you have to cover foam with material and the armbands take like 6 hours a piece and you have two to do.... what? I don't know that from experience.... anyway... yes start now... good idea so if something goes wrong- plenty of time to fix or can't find something - plenty of time to hunt it down.

Oh, and don't forget thrift stores -you can find pieces you need there. I bought my whole Momiji costume from a thrift store and then altered it a bit. Thrift stores are cosplayer's best friend - you can find weird stuff for cheap! score! ;)

Have fun at the con! Hope the costume goes well!!
