Title: Equal
Description: Gaia searches for her father, with Jake

This is my second attempt at writing Fearless Fan Fic. All criticism is greatly appreciated.
Gaia's POV
This morning I woke up in a real bed for the first time in weeks. I woke up in a room with light comming in through the window, and for once in my miserable life, I didn't curse the sun for rising. I was one room away from my uncle, and one plane ride away from my father.
I can't believe he's okay. I mean, after what happened, I thought I had lost him forever. I thought I would be left with no one but myself, especially if Uncle Oliver turns back into Loki. He doesn't know that I see him struggling to keep Loki under wraps. But I do. I hear him talking in his sleep at night, barking out orders to kill, or "neutralize" people, especially my father, my friends, and me. Then, I hear him wake up and start crying. He doesn't know I hear this.
I went and visited Jake at the hospital yesterday. I don't really know how to explain how I feel around him. It's different than it was with Sam, or Ed. Sam was kind of my ideal. The guy that every girl wants, and I got him. Ed was my best friend, it everything felt so natural around him. I loved them both. I still do. But Jake, Jake feels like an equal to me. And maybe that's what I need.

Gaia Moore walked into the hospital room where Jake was staying. She took ni the room with her eyes, the stethescopes, the tounge depressors, and the body laying on the bed, taking the shallow breaths of a person deeply in slumber.
She crossed the room, and sat down in a red pleather chair that stuck to her back. Gaia self consciously brushed her hair back with her hand. She had actually washed it this morning, and combed it too. She sat there staring at Jake's perfectly chissled face until his eyelids fluttered open.
"Gaia?" he asked horsley, "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at school?"
"Probably," she responded flippantly, "not like I care about school or anything."
Settling back in her chair, Gaia went over in her mind all the reasons she wasn't in school:
1)Her father was in Siberia
2)Jake was here
3)She didn't want to see Ed and his new girlfriend
4)Jake was here
"Look Jake, I just really wanted to thank you again for everything that you did. I mean, you took a bullet for me. you saved my life." Gaia finished the last sentence in a whisper just loud enough for Jake to hear.
"Gaia," Jake started, but for lack of words, he trailed off. Gaia didn't press him.
They sat there in silence for a few minutes, staring into eachother's eyes.
"Gaia," Jake started again, "there's something that I have to tell you. You may not like to hear it, but you need to listen, ok?"
Wordlessly, Gaia nodded.
"Gaia, my name is not Jake Montone, and I'm not an 18 year old high school guy. I'm Bryan Simmons, and I'm 22 years old. I'm in the CIA with your father, and before he got captured by Natasha, he knew that she was evil, but he had to know who she was working for, so he went along with it. But he didn't want to leave you alone and unprotected, so he enlisted my help to watch over you. And I ahve been. I wasn't supposed to blow my cover, but I had to, becuase I couldn't take lying to you anymore. Gaia, I love you."
But gaia didn't hear Jake say that he loved her, becuase she had run out of the room, crying.

Ed pulled away from Kai and looked at her. Man, she was beautiful. She was totally different looking from any other girl he'd ever dated. And she was a good kisser too.
She wrinkled up her nose, causing the little daimond stud in it to sparkle.
"Was it as good for you?" she asked in a whisper, laughing slightly.
Ed tossed his head back and laughed too. How long had it been since he had enjoyed himself this much? Far too long, he was sure.
Reaching out and touching her short hair, Ed breathed in her aroma. It was something like fresh baked bread, mixed with chocolate, and fabric softener. He loved that smell.
Kai winked one of her slanted eyes and began to slide out of her chair.
"So, d'you wanna go and board a bit Ed?" she asked him, grabbing his hand teasingly.
"Sure. Sounds like a plan." Ed picked up his skateboard, and handed Kai hers. The two of them walked out of Starbucks, and over to Ed's old hunting ground, Tribeca.
To get there, they had to walk through WSP. Ed had always loved the park when he was younger, but now even the thought of the place made his stomach churn. This was Gaia's territory. This was where she kicked ass, where he had first seen her fight.
In some cruel twist of the universe, Gaia ran by Ed and Kai on the path. She was fast, but Ed saw her close enough to see the tears running down her face.
"I know that girl" Ed said to Kai, "I hope she's ok."
"Well, do you want to run after her? I mean, Tribeca's always there, and it looks like something's wrong. We can meet up later if you want to make sure she's alright."
"that's ok. I'd rather hang out with you." Ed pushed the words out of his mouth. They fell out like chunks of lead, and he hated saying them, but he knew that they were the right words to say. Kai verified that by giving him a quick kiss on the cheek.
Besides, it was time for Gaia to fix her own problems.

Gaia's POV
He works for my father. Jake, Bryan, whomever the hell he is, has been lying to me since the moment that we met. The first guy that I felt I could trust in a looooong time, and he never even told me his real name.
You probably think that I should feel greatful that my father took such an interest in my welfare. Well, I don't. I feel hurt and betrayed by him, and whoever Jake really is. Who was his family? Were they all actors too? At least a whole bunch of stuff finally makes sense, like why he was so good at fighting, or why he took a bullet for me. It was his job. His goddamn job.
Every person I trust either betrays me, or dies. Ed, Sam, Mary, my mom, my dad, Natasha, Tatiana, even my uncle for awhile, and probably again soon.
Well, one things for certain: I won't make that mistake again. And this time, I mean it.
Katia - August 13, 2003 09:09 PM (GMT)
It's getting better as it goes along. Keep on going.

Tatiana sat in her private jail cell, gritting her teeth angrily. She was separated from Natasha, and stuck in a cold, dark room with no privacy from the guards.
Every once in awhile, she saw prisoners in orange jumpsuits walking down the halls.
As much as she wanted to, Tatiana couldn't call her employer for help. It would be easy enough, She knew how to contact him, even inside this cement prison, but if she did, she was as good as dead. Her mother too.
When am I going to be moved? Tatiana wondered furiously. I want to be with my mother!
Pacing back and forth in her stall, Tatiana thought almost constantly of all that had taken place in the last few months, starting with taking that goddamn job from her very distant relative, and ending right there, in her temporary jail cell.
There were few things that she would have done differently, like she would have run away with Ed the moment Natasha was captured. He knew nothing about her back then.
Tatiana peered out of her small window, expecting to see a guard bringing her some crappy food, but was instead greeted by a face looking in through her window.
It was the face of her employer.

Bryan sat with his back pressed firmly against the back of his bed. He breathed in and let out a huge sigh. He wasn't quite sure what had compelled him to tell Gaia the truth. It wasn't like he was stupid or anything, he knew logically that she would run away from him. Logically he knew that she had had a hard life, and was slow to trust anyone, so of course he knew that in telling her the truth about himself, she would split. But he also knew, in his heart this time, that he and Gaia were ment to be together. More than anything else in the universe, Bryan believed in this fact. He and Gaia were soul mates.

Gaia ran into her uncle's apartment out of breath, with tears running rapidly down her face.
She ran it through the door, and slammed it behind her.
"Gaia?" Oliver called from the next room, "are you home?"
gaia cleared her voice quitely, and swallowed her pain momentarily, "uh...yeah Unlce Oliver. I'm home."
"Ok, well, we need to talk. We're leaving tomorrow morning to fly to Siberia and find your father."
Oliver came into the breezeway where Gaia was, his face glowing with excitement, until he saw her crestfallen face, "Gaia, sweetie, what's wrong?"
"nothing uncle Oliver. Just, girl stuff."
"Oh, well, I wish I could be of some hel-AHHHHHH!!!!!." Oliver crumpled to the floor, where he began rolling around, and grabbing his head. Gaia got up and ran over to him, then dropped to the floor beside him.
"Oliver? Uncle Oliver? Are you there? Are you ok? What's happening?"
Oliver continued rolling and screaming for another couple of moments. Gaia was afraid that one of the neighbors would hear anbd call the cops. That was one thing she deffinently didn't need.
As quickly as Oliver's epison had started, it ended again.
"Oh. My. God." whispered Oliver.
"What? what's wrong Uncle Oliver?"
A single tear ran down his face, and the pain in his eyes showed Gaia that Oliver had just remembered Loki's worst deed. A single word, whispered so quietly that Gaia could scarcely hear it, confirmed her suspicions.
"Katia."

Tatiana's blue eyes filled with terror as the door to her cell was opened.
"Boss," she whispered in Russian, "this is a suprise."
"'yes, it is. It is a suprise to me that you and your mother have both failed me. Your mother has already been dealt with. Now, it is your turn."
Tatiana's knees went weak and she fell upon her bed. "your mother has already been dealt with" what did that mean?
Feeling her eyes well up with tears, Tatiana forced herself to look up at the man standing before her. She was given nothing but a pair of cruel black eyes, glaring back down at her.
Quickly, she averted her eyes back to the floor.
"Where is my mother?" Tatiana whispered
"Back in Russia. She has been taken there under my supervision, and will remain as such until said time that I choose to release her. You however, shall remain here, in this tiny American prison, for, quite possibly, the rest of your life. You will never see Natasha again."
Tatiana felt a crushing pain in her stomach, that rose up to her heart in bolts of pain, and then rose still higher to her face, where her perfectly trained assassin's mask broke, and she began wailling.
"Please! No! This is the worst torture ever!"
"Believe me, this is not the worst punishment I could give you for failing me so miserably. Feel blessed that today I am feeling leinent, and you are given my mercy. I could make your life so much worse Ms. Petrova. And I ask you never to forget that."
Without another word, the man turned on his heel, and calmly walked out of her cell, leaving Tatiana weeping in a ball on her cot.

Loki's POV
Katia, my darling, what have I done? How could I have murdered you in such cold blood?
Gaia has no reason to trust me, and yet she does. Why? She was your daughter, never mine. She was never mine Tommy, and I'll bring her back to you, or kill myself trying.
My head is swimming, and very little makes sense. One moment, I am curled in a ball on the floor of my apartment, crying; and the next second I am sitting calmly on an airplane off to Siberia.
Gaia is next to me.
Then, I am back. I am lurking outside a small cabin in upstate New York with a gun in my hand and hatred in my heart. Now I have blood on my hands as I run from the cabin. I am in a helocopter flying away, and I am sitting next to Gaia again.
Oh Katia, I am sorry.

Gaia sat silently on her coach airplane seat next to her uncle. She pretended to be watching the movie about teenagers who talked like a Woody Allen movie and insestuously screwed eachother, but in reality, she was looking sideway at her uncle's blank, vacant expression.
Gaia squirmed slightly in her seat, the red plush cusions were hard and stiff on her back.
we're going to go and see my father, she thought nervously to her self. But what would happen then? Gaia knew that she was going to have to tell him that Natasha, the woman he loved, had tried to kill him, and no one knew why she had.
Plus, there would have to be an explination of Oliver as well.
This, Gaia thought grimly, is not a conversation that I'm looking forward to having.
Oliver began twitching slightly, and Gaia worried, not for the first time, how much longer he'd be able to keep Loki under wraps. It was like a multiple personality really, you could suppress them for awhile, but sooner or later, they're going to bubble back to the surface.
A cold sweat broke out on Oliver's forehead, and Gaia did her best to wipe it away with her towel sized airplane blanket without seeming overly conspicuous.
"It's ok Unlce Oliver," she whisperd softly into his ear, "We'll be in Siberia soon."
"Katia. Kkk-kaa-atia. Katia." he stammered quietly, "I kkk-ill-ed hhher..."
"I know Unlce Oliver. But that wasn't you. It was Loki."
"LLL-o-key...Hhhe kkk-ill-ed oth-er pp-eo-pple ttt-ooo. Ttt-ried ttt-ooo kkk-ill mmmm-eee. Hh-elp mmmm-eee Gg-aia..."
Then, Oliver's eyes rolled back into his head, and he began having an epileptic sezure in his seat.
"HELP! SOMEBODY! PLEASE! MY UNCLE IS DYING!" Gaia called out, leaping from her seat.
A stewardess came running from a drop-seat in the front of the plane immediately, "what happened?"
"He, he started stammering, and then he just began convulsing!" Gaia exclaimed, not afraid, but worried. She was finally getting a family here, and now this.
The stewardess ran to the back of the plane to "get the first aid box", and gaia sat next to her uncle, holding his cold hand, and whispering "it'll be okay Uncle Oliver, it'll be okay."
When, Oliver sat up straight, his blue eyes rolled forward, and he stiffened. Gaia looked deeply into his eyes, and saw coldness there. Her worst fears had been confirmed.
Loki was back.

Bryan sat in the back of the plane, his head firmly nestled under a blonde wig. He hated those standard issue wig collections that the CIA gave out. They never looked quite right on him.
He peeked silently around the seat, and saw A mass of blonde hair moving in an imperceptibly shifty way. Something was wrong. Three years of agency training had taught him to notice the slight ways that a body moves. And with the way Gaia's head was moving, something was definently not right.
Bryan slid slowly out of his seat, and walked up the small isle of the airplane. He arrived at seats 4H and 4J, where Gaia and her uncle were sitting.
"Is there anything wrong here?" Bryan asked in an octave below his regular voice.
Gaia looked up at him with her trademark snarl, and seemed just about ready to make some kinde of Buffy-esque quip, but instead, her eyes opened wide, and she gasped, "Jake!"
Bryan felt him cheeks grow warm, and he grew flustered, "Uh...no! My name is..uh...Pete. I'm a flight attendant."
Then Bryan realized that he was wearing civilian clothes, "or..." he gave up, "yeah Gaia. It's me. But, it looked like you could use a little help."
Gaia glared back at Bryan, and then sighed, also giving up, "I guess that at this moment Jake, or should I say Bryan, you're the lesser of two evils. Help me kick his ass."
gaia85 - September 17, 2003 07:52 PM (GMT)
Loki jumped up from his seat, ignoring the screams of passengers.
His was irratated with himself for not finding a way to sneak a gun onto the plane. That would make this all so much easier.
But he didn't NEED a gun, Loki was a weapon himself. And in such a small place as this, it would be even easier to neutralize these two.
Loki started on the boy. Bryan, Gaia had called him.
Loki began sparring with Bryan, barely noticing the paniced passengers who were running to the back of the airplane. Gaia tried to jump in, but Bryan shouted for her to stay out of the fray.
Loki and Bryan exchanged blows for awhile *sorry guys, I'm terrible at writing fighting scenes. use your imaginations*, until he grew tired, and bored.
With a swift motion, he smacked Gaia unconsious. She wasn't expecting the hit, so he executed it easily.
Then, he reached over and grabbed Bryan's head, and twisted it as hard and as fast as he could.
Loki was sure that he'd just snapped the boy's neck..........

Sam walked around WSP, looking, not for Gaia, but for Zolov. He could use some advice right about now.
For the first time that Sam remembered though, Zolov was not at the chess tables.
Sam shrugged, and hoped that Zolov was okay, and kept walking.
He reached into his deep pocket, and pulled out his little cell phone.
After a small internal debate, he slid the phone back into his pocket. He just wasn't ready to talk to her yet.
Sam felt his heart ache a little bit. But before he was able to feel the depth of his pain, he heard a voice behind him.
"psssst! Sam! over here."
Sam turned, and saw the silhouette of a man crouching behind a building. Sam crept over, slowly and warrily. "What do you want?" he hasked once he felt that he had come close enough.
"I need your help." the man spoke with a Russian accent.
"With what?"
"Do you want to catch the man who did this to you?"
"What do you mean?"
"I want to catch Gaia's uncle. He has done...terrible things to my family. To me. And I need your help to catch him."
"Who are you?"
"You already know me Sam boy. And I want you to help me capture the man who killed my daughter."

Bryan jumped up into the air and rotated his body around only just a moment slower than his head.
He stretched his legs out and kicked Loki in the chest and head with all the strength he could muster.
Loki released Bryan's head as he was knocked unconsiousand fell backwards into his seat.
Bryan looked up and saw a look of amazement in Gaia's eyes as she jumped up and hugged him tightly.
"I can't believe that you just did that!" she exclaimed.
"I did it for you. I love you Gaia."
Bryan tilted her chin up with his thumb, and wrapped his other hand firmly behind her back.
He drew her even nearer than he knew he could be to another person, and gently pressed his lips down upon hers.
Heat seared through Bryan's chest as Gaia responded with equal pressure. Her lips opened slightly, inviting hi tounge in. Bryan took full advantage of the situation, and gave himself fully over to the sensation as he and Gaia let their bodies fall in perfect unison onto the hard cotton seats of the coach class.

Gaia's heart began pounding harder andn harder against her chest. White hot arrows of desire shot down her stomach, and settled just below the waist line of her heavy cargo pants. Gaia pulled Bryan closer to her, winding her hand around his neck, running her fingers through his hair.
His warm hand slid up under her shirt, and ran up the length of her stomach, and then chest.
Gaia stifeled a groan at the sheer pleasure that she was experiencing, and then, she felt the armrest digging into her back.
Armrest?
Oh shit, she was still on the airplane with Bryan, and Loki's unconsious body was laying on the floor next to them!
Gaia pushed Bryan off of her, and told him to stop.
"We're on an airplane!" she exlaimed, "we have to control ourselves until we land, at the very least. Ok?"
Bryan looked uncomfortably at the back of the chair in front of him.
Then, he slid from his seat and whispered in Gaia's ear, "I'll be in the batheroom. Meet me there in 5 minutes."
