Smileforpeople - April 6, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
hey everytime i try to change my avater picture (the star thing right?) i can't change it like sometimes i'll have a .jpg which is supposed to be ok... but it'll tell me that that type of file cannot be like used...

and sometimes i'll getit to look as if it will change and when i'm redirected to the page... it will show me the star picture again... but with the size of the picture that I wanted...

do you know what i mean? or do you want me to clarify?

does anyoneknow what to do?!?

Hmmm.... that's wierd. You should be able to use .jpg or .gif files. You can try uploading your av. If it doesn't work, you could send me the link, and I could try changing.

Er .. I'm not 100% sure if this will fix it, as I'm not sure what the problem is exactly, but try hitting Ctrl+F5. If that doesn't work, right-click on your avatar, go to either "Open Link In New Window" if you see it, or "View Image" if you're in Firefox or something, THEN do a Ctrl+F5.

But that just refreshes your avatar if you hadn't seen any change upon updating it successfully.

Also, sometimes, what'll happen, is that although an avatar may be 80x80, (I hate that size. XD ) the file size of the image itself may be larger than the maximum. If so, you'll just have to resize it until it's within the limits.

You can find a program which will allow you to do such a thing Here. (IRFanview is so awesome.) Inside IRFanview, open up the image in it, then go to Resize in the tools menu or something, (May be the image menu.) And resize it to slightly smaller. Save it, check the file size. If it's just below the image, .. you're good to go.

Otherwise, you can also use the Batch Conversion feature to convert it to a .GIF file, which usually works as an avatar. :)

Remember, animated avatars are generally much larger than non-animated images. If you have an avatar that's animated, and you REALLY want to use it as an avatar, but it's too big, ... ... Contact me via AIM, at BH4 PZC, and I'll be more than happy to try to resize it for you. :)
