My life wasn’t meant to be how it is, but things changed. All things change. I was a normal girl for almost all of my life. My family and I were close, especially my dad and I. In high school, my grades were immaculate, I had a 3.8 cumulative grade point average and was a member in good standing of National Honors Society. I enjoyed reading outside in the fall, when golden leaves were falling from the ash trees in my suburban Minnesotan backyard.
In all seriousness, my life was perfect. I even had a boyfriend. We were together for almost two years, from the beginning of my junior year in high school until my freshman year at college. I attended my prom with this boy, his name was Justin and he was almost all a girl could hope for. Almost. Thinking back, I can’t understand what made us drift so far apart. I think that it was because I couldn’t give him the attention, maybe even the love that he had for me.
College was hard for me. It was a constant run from event to event, with almost no time for happiness. What spare time I did have was stolen by Justin, when all I wanted was to be alone and relax. It seems so silly now, I could have just left things alone and given in to Justin’s whining needs, but I was always too independent to use all my time with one boy. I needed an escape. I needed fun, I needed to experience my college years to the fullest extent. But I digress, all this is in the past.
