Title: S1 Brakes

mut - July 15, 2008 08:44 PM (GMT)
Hi all,

As detailed elsewhere I've decided to start UUG's rebuild again as I wasn't happy withe the bits I haven't touched.

Tonight I have finished chopping out the origional bulkheads / footwells and pedal box.

At the weekend I aim to drop the V8 back in to mark out where I want to put everything, this gives me the chance to address some issues I had with the pedal box and brake setup.

Because the V8 is set so far back I only had 5mm of clearance between the gas pedal and the chassis rail (not ideal with size 11 feet  ) , on top of this UUG has servo assisted brakes (which origionaly meant that the bonnet had to be jacked up at one end) driving 4 pot calipers.

I guess my question is with my setup do I realy need servo assisted brakes or would I be better going for an adjustable brake bias pedal box with hydraulic clutch cylinder?

Many thanks,

Mick.

Sounds familiar ;) :D

You don't need a servo on the brakes - just the pedal ratio and the m/c's sized correctly to make sure the line pressure is correct.

No more than size 9's in Kart boots in my foot well

My S1 has a pinto in it (almost as heavy as the V8) and it has what looks like very weedy brakes (triumph spitfire solid discs and pads (about 2" wide) with 9" drums at the rear) in the dry from 70 mph i can lock all the wheels, you realy dont need a servo
Hey Andy any chance of posting those parts? i can repay the postage as well.
