I'm planning to swap the camshaft on the S4 this weekend for a kent fr31. Grateful for any advice or tips on how not to mess up the timing.

Having discovered that it's a head off job to change the camshaft, I'm leaving it till I get back from the le mans classic. However, have decided to try to balance the fireblade carbs for the run up there.
using a synchrometer at 2500 rpm, I'm getting readings of 7 9 10 10. I have tried adjusting the only screw that I can find on the base of the carbs but it makes no difference at all. Anyone got any ideas?

One step forward....
Prepping the s4 for the run to le mans for the classic. Took her for a long run today and discovered that brakes were pulling to the right. Discovered that the left rear was seized. Managed to free it and took it for a test drive. She pulled up in a straight line. thought I'd be as well test all the brakes and pulled the hadnbrake on. Hardly ever use it as she's mostly sitting in the garage on the level. Somehow, I seem to have managed to snap both cables. Question - are they ford parts or some sort of generic cable? Need to get it sorted by next weekend .
Andrew, You'll be pleased to know that she's back down on her hunkers again. However, despite carefully ramping the step into the garage, still grounded her on the way in!

Hi John,
Handbrake cables are Allegro items - Compensator is a home brew
To keep the suspension low there two settings for the handbrake on the levers on the back plate - the lower ones - not very effective - for day to day use - the upper ones effective for the MOT only as they get too close to chassis for day to day use.
Cheers

You dont adjust the balance on multi-carbs by adjusting the screws on the carb bodies (mixture screws) but by adjusting the connecting linkages on the shaft joining them all. If thats what you are trying to do. it can be a real pain in the bum to do.

Thanks for all of the advice and information. I'm just struggling for time to get everything done now before thursday when we set off.

Hi, as you were talking of camshafts on a pinto be very careful to make sure that the bolts securing the oil splash bar are the correct length. I am just changing my cam (might as well as the engine is out again) and a previous owner had fitted nice stainless allen bolts. They looked nice on the outside but damaged the camshaft shell bearing which needs renewing and junked the std camshaft I was taking out.
PS this years not been fun completed the megajolt (fun sitting in the dutton with your laptop!) and fitted a new clutch she was running real nice ;) until I noticed a water leak from the rear of the block. Lo and behold it was cracked  . So out with that engine, practice some welding (you can only try, it looks doubtful which is a shame as the block has only done around 6K since it was rebored and crank reground) and summers almost gone. Ill post some pics for your enjoyment.
