Description: will they fit?

Hi Guys, before laying out any cash on a free flow exhaust, just wanted to make sure that the one's made for escorts and capris will fit into the engine bay ok?

No they don't fit - well not without a significant amount of cutting and welding if you still want side exit

For rear exit you may have more luck - but you are adding further tube and restriction and will more than likely end up no better than whats already fitted.

Escort types have more chance of fitting- I had two Capri Systems GT and JPS and both where just too much work for the effort.

Once again, thanks Andrew. i guess I'll just have to make one then (which will be fun if I can find the time) unless anyone knows where I can get an off the shelf job.

Cheers

Hi John
Just thought I would add these two pics of my first attempt at a rear entry exhaust.

The pipe was extended just under the rear arch then into another silencer box under the boot exiting out of another small sound reducing silencer box. It all worked well and sounded great, the only problem was it was too low at one point next to the axle IIRC.
I did go to Newark with this setup and was fine but it was mostly dual carriageway and motorway, but on country roads etc , the exhaust pipe was grounding badly over bumps.

The R1 can I fitted was great when I first fitted it but it was a freebie of a friend which had seen better days ,

Hi Graham,
I like the side exit. I just love to hear it throbbing away a few inches from my ear. Its just a manifold I was looking for. Intending to keep it side exit. The R1 can sounds good but loud. I'll change it before the next mot. Maybe earlier as I want to take it for a track day and they have strict noise limits. I'm looking forward to fabricating one, I'm just stretched for time.

By the way, I also picked up a set of R1 carbs so when time permits I'll try both the webers and the R1s (Ithink I'll fabricate a manifold for them too) and see how they both perform.

Cheers for now
John
