Title: Carb and Exhaust Manifold
Description: Bolt on Swap?

Having got my hands on the S4, I can't wait to start tinkering. Because of budgetary constraints, I think I will follow Andrew's advice and go for a 38 DGAS. I have found one on an RS2000 manifold. Will this manifold bolt straight on to the Pinto?

I also read somewhere that an RS2000 exhaust manifold would be an improvement. I have also found one of those for about £40. Likewise will this bolt staight on? I realise I'd need to modify if for side exit.

The DGAS and inlet shown should bolt straight on to the Pinto no problem. However it would be better/cheaper to find just a DGAS on its own as you have the manifold already.

The Exhaust Manifold is from an Escort Mk5 RS 2000 not the Mk1/2 so not suitable - The Sierra dual port manifold that is fitted is as good as the old cast RS MK2 manifold - The next best manifold is a nice large bore tubular but it will have to be manufactured - you will not get one that bolts straight on .

I have a few tubular parts from a JPS capri Mk2 that I was going to cut and wrangle to fit at some point but never got round to it.

Thanks Andrew.

One more question, while I was cleaning the S4 after the long trip home, I found a bottle of lead substitute behind the seat. It doesn't need it...does it?

If its just a lead substitute then no, the head is a last of the line 205 Pinto and has hard seats fitted - If its an octane booster as well maybe if there is no super unleaded available. Wont do any harm either way.

Cheers

Andrew

Thanks again Andrew. i haven't been able to locate the identification mark on the head. When I first picked it up it was running on a bit but I've been using 98 octane super unleaded and it's been fine.
