Title: Fuel tank breather.

Darren Bright - February 27, 2008 02:03 PM (GMT)
Hi my name is Darren and I have just rebuilt a Melos that I purchased. The re build including a full paint job and engine re build went very well but now that the car is back running I have a problem. When the car was built the tank breather has been used as afuel return from the carb and when I fill it with fuel, pressure builds up and blows it over the back of the car. I am new to kit cars so any help will be appreciated.

You need to fit a breather onto the tank, some where like thinkauto.com or merlins should be able to provide you with one. Or maybe locost approach of some plumbers fittings, 8mm or 10mm pipe attached to rubber hose

Fitting could be tricky, if you have a sender you could maybe remove that and drill the cover if there was room. Or next to the sender hole where you would be able to get a nut onto the fitting, be careful with the drilling's getting into the tank. And put a loop into the rubber hose if you didnt have a non return breather fitted, to stop any spillage.

Or possibly drilling filler neck and welding on a small pipe to accept rubber hose.

maybe someone has an easier solution.

Advice would be what I posted on the DOC message board.

What engine is it?
