Title: Clutch Cables

Dutboy - September 11, 2007 08:59 AM (GMT)
Most of my Duttons have a Clutch Cable which is 865mm long over all whilst the outer sleve is 655mm long. The donors were all Std MKII Esorts.

I Went to the motor factors yesterday to get a new MKII escort cable but whilst the over all length was the same the outer sleeve was much longer at around 750mm hence it would not fit my car becasue it wanted to lift the clutch pedal into the dashboard!

Any body any ideas where this all went wrong as no body seems able to supply me a cable with the same dimensions as the one i removed....

Burton

Is the first place I would have a look at the website is quite informative about lengths etc. and has detail on the different ends used.

What I cant find any info on is what type the transit used - and I only mention this because a MK2 Cortina Savage that I was looking at recently was using a Transit Heavy duty clutch cable.

Cheers

Andrew

I tried Burton but they were out of stock so could not help for a week or so. In the end I got an RS2000 one and that seems to be have the correct amount of free play but is longer than the one i removed. Guess it is just down to the compatable after market parts being totally incompatable (again)
Speedy Cables will make one to my spec for between £25 and £30 which i guess is not to bad until you compare it to £12 from Ebay for an RS2000 cable that will fit with a bit of rerouting!

Hi all, long time no post!

i had this problem on my robin hood, i used an m12 bolt (i think) drilled the centre out and put it at the gearbox end with the cable slotted through. then using a nut i had an adjustable clutch cable.
not the "proper" thing to do, but got me through my SVA and is still doing fine!

i may have one spare if your interested

Thanks, Andy
