By way of an update to my flywheel problems, here we go.
It turns out that when i bought a new starter motor for my 2.0L pinto, It 'ate' the ring gear on the flywheel.
On taking the engine out to change the flywheel, i discovered that the wheel on their and clutch was actually from a 1.6. (the engine is a 2.0L as its a 205 block).
I have fitted the new flywheel, starter motor and a new 2.0L clutch.
The engine now turns over very nicely but still won't start. I have new: plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm and points. I have discovered that the sparks are very weak and intermittant. It appears that as i have replaced a weak part, it has put strain on the next component which i then replace and so on.
Tomorrow, i fit a new coil and everything should be good again.
Now the weathers here, i want to drive it, not fiddle with it!
Check the assembly of the points carefully and that the dizzy arm is pointing at the cap contact when the points open.
Cheers
Andrew
IT RUNS!!! :D :D :D .
The coil changed everything.
Now i need to put back all the dash wiring and console and stuff that i took out to help diagnose things. The only other thing then is to figure out why the brand new alternator is only putting out 12v.
A local auto electronics place is going to test the alternator for me next week.
In the mean time, i am happy to make short journeys during daylight that don't involve stopping the engine. (At least i can get some use out of thei weather) :D
