Title: Rear Axle Identifcation
Description: Width of Rear Axel on my S1
Barry-1 - July 5, 2007 12:58 PM (GMT)
Hi all
I would like to know how to determine the width of my rear axle. Is it the width between the drum brake mounting flanges or the width between the outer facings on the drum brakes?
Thanks, hoping for good weather at the weekend
Barry
ps as far as I can make out its a Capri MK1, Atlas, 3.09 Diff; The width between the drum brake mounting flanges is 49.5 inches (could be 50 inches although I measured to the nearest mm)

Surley the width would include the drums...
IE from the outside of the drums at inside of the wheel studs.. other wise any offset calcs wouldnt take the drums into consideration.?

Axle width is usually quoted as being backplate to backplate. Escort is 48", Capri Mk1 50"

Capri Axle on the 3.0L is known as the Atlas and has bolt on rear cover and the 3.0L was available with 2 ratio's - 3.29 and 3.09
Also has 9 inch rear drums - 1 3/4" wide.
Cheers
