Do you have to prime or bleed a new oil pressure pipe and gauge now fitted, (the engine has not been run for 6 months) I took off the ht lead and turned the engine over a few times it did not show any pressure and there was no oil in the pipe. I did pour oil over push rods rockers ect. before turning over. should I try starting it ? cheers Paul

The Rover oil pump does not self prime - there should quite a bit of info about that on this board.

Basically you need to remove the oil pressure switch/semder unit and pump oil into the galleries to prime the oil pump - the other way is to remove the lower part of the oil pump casing and pack it with Vaseline - Using and oil can with a flexi spout through the oil pressure switch connection worked for me.

On the gauge - no they dont need priming - pressure is pressure.

If youdont do this you will be cranking for ever and will damage the engine before you manage to get pressure.

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Andrew thanks for that I pumped the oil in & that worked, had engine running for a while but it was getting late so not to much revving, need to bleed the brakes and take for a test run tomorrow after work, and hopefully be at stoneliegh for Sunday cheers Paul
