Hello
whilst trying to stop the leaks on my carb one of the studs that bolts it to the inlet port has stripped its thread. Do you think this is something that could be fixed with a helicoil?
Has anyone had any experience with helicoils or know of a mobile service near leeds?
I just seem to be going backwards with this car at the moment, this bloody holley carb is a nightmare it just seem to squirt fuel everywhere I have brought a full rebuild kit and there are still leaks on the accelerator pump.
cheers
James
I have done a few helicoils in the past and that would be the best method to recover a thread from an alloy casting.
I have never heared of a mobile service however - I would expect that you would have to take the component to a local engineering company to have the work carried out.
Another option is to fill the failed hole with something like JB weld / chemical metal and then drill and tap back to original buts no guarantee - The next step is having the casting fault welded up and then re-tapped.
The Holley is a pretty simple carb to work with providing you are methodical and have access to the relevant service documentation.
Cheers

Hi,
I can only speak from experience on motorbikes, I found 'helicoiling' fantastic on alloy, etc. I broke several studs on a GSXR head and had them 'helicoiled' no problem.
Don't live near Leeds but most good bike shops can do the job if it can be taken to them, they may come out. The other option is try it yourself:

Thanks for all the advice, it looks like helicoil would be the way forward for the stripped thread on the offenhauser manifold. As for the carb i think i might look at replacing it with a new weber 500 it seems as if holleys carbs have a tendency to leak, from what i have read on the web and i must have taken it off at least 15 times now and it still leaks.
Maybe it's best to try some newer technology!
