A couple of times in the morning when it's been foggy and cold I get a stuttering when loading the engine. It's OK when I'm feathering the throttle and when I nail it but there's a point in the middle where it bogs down. Also, when I stop the idle is really crappy and giving it some revs makes it cough out a bit of black smoke. Sometimes it'll clear at this stage.
So, my question is - does this sound like it could be symptomatic of 'icing' (I'd like to reiterate my lack of knowledge of carbs!) or should I just be going for water ingress?
Thanks
James
Sound like a progression problem - been there before - turned out to be an air leak from when the automatic choke was removed and a port was left open coupled with the auxillary venturi's being loose.
Check the float heights as well.

Sorry you must've missed my don't know sh*t about carbs :) EH?!
