Dutton Phaeton Series 3
1st registered 1984; on a Q plate. 2 litre ford Pinto engine (from F-reg sierra) with twin weber carbs and large oval K&N air filters. This car was originally built to compete in sprints and hill climbs and as such has certain special features, i.e.: a chunky race approved rollover bar, external battery isolator switch (which acts as an immobiliser which is really useful), 3 point harnesses with shoulder pads, fire extinguisher, spax fully adjustable suspension, light weight black bucket seats, inertia fly wheel etc. I am the third owner having bought it in 2002 and have had a great deal of fun. The car goes like absolutely flies and sounds really sweet. Its been to shows and I've even taken a journalist from Redline Magazine out in it and he was amazed at the speed and handling, which out performed the hot hatch boy racer cars he was more used to driving. The car is currently officially SORN and has been so for about 1 year, having been garaged whilst I've been at university. Each time I've been home it has been started and driven around a little bit, so it hasn't seized up. It starts and drives well and all electrix (lights, indicators, horn, wipers, washers etc) work fine.
The car has large deep wolfrace alloys with decent grippy rubber, a mountney 4 spoke sports steering wheel, carpetted interior and wooden dash, full wet weather gear including doors and hood, a lockable lined boot compartment, 4 into 2 into 1 janspeed exhaust, wrapped in heat insulation and going into a large driver side side pipe - that sounds awesome. Recent parts include facet electric fuel pump, battery, plugs, oil change. It has a five speed gear box and will come complete with many spares - including coil, alternator, distributors, fuel pump, starter motor, leads, alloy wheel (rare to have a spare with a kit car). It also has a oil cooler system that hasn't been fitted yet. I can also include a sterio system with pioneer or goodmans cassette/radio head unit, aerial, amplifer if necessary and kenwood or alpine speakers - which I never had time to install.
The car will also come with a copy of the original Dutton Phaeton build manual and various relavant haynes manuals, along with all necessary paperwork.
The car is currently without mot, but wouldn't need much to get through. Honest problems with the car: speedo cable needs to be fitted (not actually a requirement for the mot I've heard, and a spare cable is included ready to fit); the fuel guage and rev counter have never worked since I've had it; the gel coat has the typical dutton blemishes in some places but nothing too bad; because it hasn't had a long run the twin webers could do with a tweek to set them up again and the breaks could do with an over haul because the front drivers side wheel seems to have a slightly sticky piston, making the car tow right a bit if you let go. Easy things to work on through the winter, ready to blast around next summer.
The reason for sale is that i have done an undergradute and then masters degree and have thus incurred some debt! I start work in Leeds in late november and the car is garaged in Wiltshire at home. It is time to enter real working life and sell the toys! This car is truely awesome fun, cheap to insure (when 23 I was paying £150 fully comprehensive on limited millage through Footman James insurance) fast and affordable. I will miss it but am willing to let it go to a good home.
I am asking £999 but am open to sensible offers
