Hello Mike,
I have made a AutoCAD drawing and had it CNC-milled by a company that makes illuminated signs because they do that all the time and i knew those guys.
The dash has two layers. The front plate is 2mm anodised aluminium and behind that is 6 mm synthetic material (the precise material i'd forgotten but it is a triple layerd kind of nylon).
The backplate is to mount the lights, knobs and gauges.
It was a lot of work, but worth it i think.
The knobs you can see in the dash, are momentary switches with bi-color leds for the on/ off state. These actuate the relais by a micro-processor. This is done for the future, so I can actuate for example the light by a sensor.
I hope this helped you a bit.
Cheers

Nice one - Ill have a look round here for a simular set up - back plate with dials and flash front cover - I also see you had to move and bend the hand brake - I have a simular problem here, well I think that will be my next mission, thanks of the help, Mike

Me again only registered now - started on the dash to find out the previous owner must have got a special rate on a rivet gun and rivets???? seems to have plastered the back of the dash with about 100 rivets and short/ irregular iron bars.... Thanks mate ;-)........
MOT seems further away every time I start a new task; however I will burn my pip whilst driving the lanes this summer I swear!!!!!!!

Well that's my goal to. But I am having (from the beginning) a lot of engine problems with the 1600 x-flow :( . Now 1 cilinder isn't doing what it should. So i have to look at that issue and before summer i want to mount bigger wheels to get rid of those enormous gaps between the wheels and wheel arches.

Ford do 15" wheels with normal 4 stud PCD. Probably a fiver in a scrapyard.
Bigger would work out silly big money.
Best wishes
John

Thats what I have just done with my S3 except they were 14" I was told any bigger was not a good idea? prob I found was that you then needed 36mm spacers and bolt extensions to stop the tyres rubbing on the chassis. this proves a challenge, £30 quid odd on ebay if you willing fight it out with the peugetto 106 chav from down the road!!!!! and they dont seem to come round often. looks OK now though

Looking forward to it.
If anyone else has pictures of a phaeton with 15" wheels please post.

Billy had 15" tsw blades on his S1. However the s1/s2 always looks better with larger diameter wheels in my opinion as you can get wheels sitting nicely in the arches compared to a s3/s4.
The pics are on
THIS thread.

That is what i am looking for!!
But is the rear axel not centred in the wheel-arch?
On the pictures it looks like if it more to the front of the car.
Does anyone know I have to change something before mounting 15"wheels?

The previous owner who billy was buying it from took him for a test drive and in the process ripped the trailing arm bracket clean off the rear axle ;) :D
There rear is also sitting higher as there is a block of wood wedged in-between the body and axle to support it while we got it back home.

That explains a lot.
But do i have to make any change to prevent the wheels from rubbing the wheel arches and chassis?
Mike Evans - April 27, 2005 01:32 PM (GMT)
Wheel spacers stop them from rubbing the chassis - you can get the spacers and extension bolts on ebay, I found the 32mm work best.. these are for a mini but looking at them they look like they would fit as they are 4 pot and look excactly like the ones I have fitted....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=100916&item=4546033852&rd=1

Considering all the options, I have gone the expensive way.
I have mounted new 16” rims 7” wide from OZ.
I was not really a problem mounting them because I have ordered them nearly the correct offset.
The next thing is lowering the car approx 1,5/ 2 inch to compensated the extra ground clearance, mounting the 16” wheels.
Has anyone maybe lowering blocks for the rear suspension lying around doing nothing? I will buy them for a small price.
Does anyone know where I can get shorter springs? Greetings Erik

Lowering blocks are easy to get hold of through the likes of Burton Power for the Ford axles 1-2" drops £22-27.

First I want to wish you all a happy new year.
It’s a while ago, but there are new things going on (it looks like a never ending story building a kitcar :) ) that i want to share with you guys. B)
For my birthday I got new gauges. I wanted to get rid of all those different gauges. (If anyone is interested in buying a set of gauges…..) . It looks quite nice, I think.
I’m also upgrading the ignition. The ignition has been giving trouble a while ago, but I have sorted it then. Now it was giving trouble again, so I decided to upgrade the ignition to a megajolt installation. It’s nearly finished, so I’m curious how this is going to work.
Also I upgraded the exhaust by installing another tube from manifold to silencer. This because I wanted to get rid of that strange bend in it ( see picture above)
