Title: Onboard Camera
Description: @ Track Days?

KingGreg - February 11, 2003 09:54 AM (GMT)
Hello,

Anyone got much experience with Track days?

Just wondering what track day organisers would make of an onboard camera mounted on the roll bar of the Dutton....

Have to make sure it was pretty securely strapped on (we've already made a special mount for on-the-road footage!)

It's only a tiny little digital thing and wouldn't affect much - except the crucial aerodynamics! Makes for great reminicisng with the mates after....

Theres a few other places it could go aswell I suppose.

What are your thoughts?

Greg.

Hi Greg,

Well, Ive seen various footage from camcorders strapped into vehicles at track days etc. I would of thought it would be easier to get away with it in a car with an actual roof, as if it comes loose its not going to go onto the track/ spectator areas etc. There are however alot of clips of caterhams and other open top cars with the footage being shot from the rollover bar. I'm sure caterham probably do thier own mounting platform system just for this purpose (£499.98 no doubt ;) )

If your gonna do it then i'd really make sure its not going to go anywhere!

Cheers

Have been doing track days both on airfields and at Donnington and Brands for over 2 years .Organiser have no problems with cameras on board as long as they are secure. After all you show it to your mates and they then book a day too, free advertising for the organisers.
Would love to meet other duttons out on track as I always have to play ...and beat sometimes, caterhams and westie's!!
I know there are a few but only met one other.

I'm in High Wycombe J4 on the M40..... not sure when we will get to brands this year as its quite pricey, Donnington is a favourite at the moment as well as doing a few airfields in the south with the guys at Motor sport limited loads of fun hounding a badly driven subaru and scaring the pants of yer mates too as I often get it wrong before getting it very right ....lol

Hi,

I use a camera strapped to the roll bar on my B+ with no real problems apart from vibration due to my hard suspension. Had it last checked at Binbrook in Dec and they said it was ok. We did use an extra strap attached to the roll bar just in case. The vibration actually turned the camera off at one point :(

My passenger tried to use a mini had held cam at one point (without my knowledge) and we got black flagged for it :ph43r: , but it was quite a good movie :D and is up on my web site.

cheers

Rob.

The Demon tweeks catalogue - lists and FIA approved camera mounting kit - it appears that all is needed is a mechanical fixing plus a safety restraing strap for FIA - the DT kit has an anti vibe as well.
