Title: Polyurethane bushes
perefouras - August 19, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
Hi
I want to install polyurethane bushes on the rear axle of my Phaeton S1
The rubber ones are too old....
This is a Cortina axle with three rods and a Panhard rod
Is anybody knowing were I could find them ?
Cheers

Hi,
Do you have a picture of which bushes you mean?
I only ask as the only rubber bushes on my S1's axle are the bushes on the shocks, everything else has rose joints...

Rimmer brothers - they are not the cheapest place but easy enough to order from
Here - part number
Rimmer page
119451POLY
That is providing they are the original Dutton parts

Hi Andrew how's things going?
Did the S1 have leaf springs originaly?
Mick.

Hi Mick,
One step forward and two steps back at the moment with the build - complete change of direction on the steering rack has meant mounts and chassis tubes out so although I know it has to be done and the car will be better for it I'm a bit demotivated :( as it was progressing well - still as this is pretty much a from scratch redevelopment its been this way all the way through.
The only cars with leaves were the original early B types which used the Spitfire system as above with the transverse spring arrangement - and the S2 S3 and S4 which used the more conventional system off the Escort /Cortina/Capri Donor.
The later B type the B+ and S1 used the radius arms in the above diagram as the link bars and the Panhard with coil overs
I must have about a dozen of those link bars - even have the adjustable versions off of the GT6.
On the Plus side the car sounds absolutely awesome - the stock 4 Litre is very crisp and lively B)

Hi
My S1 use the rear axle from a Cortina MKII with no leaf springs, so there are three rods and a panhard rod .
The coilover shocks are coming from Hillman Imp
The dimension of the bushes are approximatively :
Lenght of bush : 3,7cm
Diameter of bush : 2,1 cm
Diameter of bolt hole : 1,0cm
I have just bought rubber ones on Ebay....
Andy, are you sure that the 119451P could fit ?
I want to be sure because the poly ones are much more expensive than the rubber ones....
Cheers

Am I sure? - of course not .... It's a Dutton but its the best I can do :P
As for your measurements you need to get a proper English measuring stick ;)
The dimensions of the Triumph bush which the Poly bush is to replace is
3/8" bore - (9.5mm)
1 7/16" width (36.5) steel sleeve
Diameter approx 9/16" (20.7mm) hard to tell its not quite a new one
If in doubt buy 1 and try it then buy the rest but it would appear that your car is using the standard parts and that they are the correct bushes you need.
