Title: A baby Dragonknight meets the Ant Hill
Description: DK's and Bugs, how can you go wrong?
Jade'wei al-Dar - August 18, 2003 02:05 PM (GMT)
To begin.. You must understand my beginning.
I am Jade'wei al-Dar. I am a Dragonknight and I hunt bugs. I have always hunted bugs... I began my life hunting Harvesters and Gardeners in Olthoi Arcade on Marae Lassel.. I moved on no further than OHN and have spent the second phase of my education of the foe there. A bug is a predictable thing, they have little creativity and are easily interpreted. The extent of their guile is to attempt to draw you into their numbers...
Forgive me if I do not consider spitting filth from any range a "tactic."
I have benefitted immensely from my older kin.. I feel a great fondness for the Dragonknights who have taken me under their wing. And so when Cicada Lom offered to show me a new breed of bug I could not object. I was in fact eager to view this larger edition of my foe, but just as eager for the spells of protection I was given to keep me hale and strong in this place they called the Ant Hill. I do not know how to get there for I was given a portal, but it is a place of great beauty...
Rolling grasslands swelling into the miniature mountain which dominated the landscape. And as far as the eye could range there were bugs dotting the landscape, loitering like cows at pasture... Ahhh, Bliss!
Warriors I was told they were called, with a few Eviscerators mixed in... I was instructed to use Cicada as a shield and run if I got into trouble, he would try to keep them off me and cast spells upon them to make them fear my mace... I liked that plan, so I readily agreed, knowing full well that these bugs were more than three times my strength... I would have a time of it if on my own.
Cicada ran to single off a Warrior and was circled loosely by six of them.. I dutufully remained a few paces behind, holding my blows until he had cast his magics... Two of the Warriors surged around Cicada and took up flanking positions upon my person, I retreated a step and they fell in next to each other... like bugs will ..and found that they could not scratch me... By some combination of spells and steel I had been made invulnerable to their blows. I Exulted! I would be victorious against these bugs, for they could not hurt me, my fears fled and I took into them with a will... And then I came to realize that nature, it seemed, had made them nearly invulnerable to me as well. I slowly carved my way through one of my two... Cicada having already dispatched the other, fearing for my safety ..and stared in awe as the titan fell. I had killed my first Warrior, and it was a wonderful thing. Cicada congratulated me and asked if I wanted more. I grinned at him.. "Hell Yeah!"
We took off up the hill, banking around another couple Warriors and as Cicada engaged them I noticed a lone Evicerator a little further up the hill. Eviscerators I had fought before with Shalindra in OHN, so I did not fear them. I wished to engage the Eviscerator but the Warriors were in the way and it was on the crest of the hill, so I did not want to circle beyond and find something I was unprepared for.. as I pondered how to lure my favorite foe I looked up to an astonishing thing.
My Eviscerator took off running, at first I thought to join the Warriors fighting Cicada, but she banked wide around them and came straight to me! I am certain that Joy lit my face as I obliterated that Eviscerator, she had come to me, just like I wanted her to.. Still awash in the joy of it I found myself faced with another Warrior and put myself to the task of chipping through it's formidable armor. Chip chip chip... It takes a long time to kill something when you only damage it every ten swings.. Much sweat and many elaborate field rations later I struck yet another killing blow upon this foe who was so much greater than I, and to my surprise and Cicada's color spilled forth from the ground around me, I had leveled! I cheered and Cicada with me, Now That's the way to make a level!!
We worked our way through another couple groups, me managing to bring down about one Warrior to Cicada's five, so I felt quite accomplished. I looked around and found myself amidst another group with Cicada and the one Eviscerator in the clump found me again.. I was so excited, the Eviscerator exoskeleton is not nearly as developed as that of the Warrior.. their flesh almost welcomes the touch of my mace, crashing through their world. As I brought my blow to bear upon this one I felt my Weapon bite especially deep, in a blink the Eviscerator was down and I was back to chipping at Warriors... It almost evaded notice it was so fast.. then it dawned upon me... I had taken down an Eviscerator in one blow! Cicada finished off the rest of the Warriors while I whittled mine down and he asked me if I had just done what he thought I had, and I assured him that, yes, it was true... Smiling from ear to ear and dripping with Ichor as I felt the magics upon me start to wither and die, we headed back to town... But I had met a greater foe that day, a foe worthy of my srtength and tact (and better equipment!) I had seen my future and put myself toward making it come as soon as possible.. Ahh... Bliss!

Well spoken Jade :) it was indeed a day to be long remembered. tho i must comment, it was a Warrior that leveled you not an evic ;) and do you remember the augmented bug i showed you? the hollow one i saw and said "stay away from that one"? i understand its quite a bit to write about and it was a long hunt.
We crested the top of the eastern ridge in seach of more bugs to smite. Jade told me she found Evic easyer to kill than warriors and we were looking for a group of them in wich to tangle. Up top the hill i saw a lone Evic i said "all yours hun" but then my eye caught a shimmer of blue and purple to the left.. it was an Augmented Olthoi sitting alone alittle ways away from the Evic just within thret range. i pointed the new bug out to her and said "see that glowing bug over there". Jade answered with a nod and i said "stay away form that one. it will kill you. you take out the evic and i'll deal with that one" she agreed and we split to our apointed targets. Now i have engaged hollow olthoi befor. thay are indeed hollow, i poke, thay pop. that simple. and normaly thay dont pose much of a thret but this one must have seen me coming and prepaired for the dule. we charged each other. and my first blow sank deep into the olthoi's gut causing a SQUEEE sound. then my foe got in a hit. its anti-magic claw when through my protections and modified armor like they where air and i felt two feet of bug pierce my chest and exit the back of my armor.. clean through. this was a bit of a suprise to me and i staggered back from the blow and quickly grabed an elixer from my belt and slamed it down. the olthoi advanced knowing it had delt a near mortal wound, but not quite understanding how qickly i can recover. thinking me on the brink of death its next attack was sloppy. but by this time i was fully recovered and easly evaded its pincers and claws. then i struck with full force and speed, twice to the legs, once to the head. the olthoi let out a loud SQUEELEEEEEE and fell dead. looked back to where Jade was in time to see her crush the evicerator's skull like a ripe frute and the bug fell....
just a littel to add to the story jade :)
the hollow bug i took on hit me for 148 points of damage, i told this to jade and she responded with "ouch"... to wich i said "i told you it would kill you" :)
ahh tis was a good night

Ahh.... Thank you Cicada for your bountiful additions to my tale, it was indeed much to remember and I'm surprised there wasn't more that slipped my mind in my haste to record the tale before it was lost to my memory completely...
And I do remember now, it was indeed a Warrior I leveled from, a fitting triumph for a Dragonknight and an al-Dar....
And if I recall correctly the warning you gave me concerning the the Hollow Olthoi was closer to "You see that?" "yeah... " "Don't go near it, it'll f*ck your world all up... " Then when he told me how much it hit him for my eyes kinda went like this:  hehe...

hehehe. I remember my first warrior. I got taken out there, and then was told, prepare to heal heal heal. Of the squeeling, it was glorious. The DK with me cringed as I charged headlong into the mob of them. I felt oh so uber as I discovered they could not touch me, course, it took me sooo damn long to kill it.
Oh, for those who don't know, I f*ck brood nobles up. *grins* They stand not a chance against me and my mighty mace, I look forward to when I can take Jade out against them with me. The squeel that issues forth from them is so delightful.
