Title: Challenge!!!!
Description: Come One, Come All!

Derhlith - October 14, 2004 12:17 PM (GMT)
A new challenge is coming, soon it shall grow and flow throughout the realm of Hypeltheon like an unstoppable wave that threatens to crush all and end the realm's existence.

All members who are active or at least registered are encouraged to participate in this event.

If you're able to get onto the site and want to join, please reply here saying you'll participate. And if you know anyone that has a character here, please talk to them about coming back, too.

We need to revive this place before we can start any new work on it! ^_^

Soon I will give information on the actual challenge so you'll all know what it is. I promise it will be an event to remember in Dark Isles. :D

Fun fun! *Pulls out his broomsticks and passes them around* XD We're gonna tear these things apart! *Swings at a few of them, and watches an orc bite the broomstick in half*... >_> *Pulls Lighty in front of him* You go first!

Fenris - October 24, 2004 07:54 AM (GMT)
Can I join this ill post my Character soon

Elither Daegovad - October 24, 2004 03:01 PM (GMT)
Hmm. Fenris, register first before posting in anything else on this site. Its a rule, so you must respect it and use it, alright? So when you register, and if you're accepted, than by all means, ya can join! ^_^

Derhlith - November 4, 2004 08:44 PM (GMT)
Okay. I've been working on diagrams and such of Helineth Port City for the lot of you so you'll know what the area looks like.

However, I'm sort of at a loss of what else you guys might need.

I'll post the two diagrams I have done all ready:

((NOTE!!!: the heights given are approximate. I realize now that I may have made the Human a bit too tall.))

((NOTE!!!: I kind-of forgot about the ballistas until the last second. They have wheels on the bases and thus are portable and will be moved in to positions on the far sides of the walls (beyond the confines of the picture itself) for the battle. You'll be able to see them positioned in a later picture. -- The black boxes on top of the towers and the Gatehouse are staircases that lead to the bowels of the structures.))

----------------------------------------------

Okay. I have 4 other pictures planned.

1) The Gates of Helineth from the Inside so you can see how they're reinforced.

2) A zoomed out image of the entire city, from ocean to defensive wall, so you can see a layout of the town. This is also the image that will hold the images outlining the army positions.

3) Diagrams outlining the insides of the 2 towers and the gatehouse so you know what they look like on the insides.

4) A prettyful image of the plains outside of Helineth's walls. The armies won't be visible on the image, but hopefully it will give more insight as to what the outer reaches of the area look like. Hopefully it will come out well and be colorable. ^_^

----------------------------------------------

Are there any other images you guys would like (so long as they aren't too complex) to make yourselves better acquainted with the city in order to defend it?

I just want to make sure you all know what the place looks like for certain.

Drayco - November 4, 2004 09:40 PM (GMT)
I ask, that because it's a port city, maybe a slight sketch of the docks or brief layout. I say this just in case the dock need defending because the walls are breached and people need to be evacked.

Elither Daegovad - November 8, 2004 07:12 AM (GMT)
Troll's are tall..o.o Evil troll's.

Derhlith - November 13, 2004 09:25 AM (GMT)
The armory for the special event is up right now so you may begin listing off your borrowed equipment according to the rules posted in this thread and using the format that's given in the armory thread. ^_^

Lighteria - November 15, 2004 04:55 AM (GMT)
>..>; So... what equipment can I use? Light armor? Medium armor? NO armor?

Derhlith - November 15, 2004 09:50 AM (GMT)
I'll try to get in touch with Baerholn for specifics on clerics since he did / is doing equipment. But for now just assume you use "mage-wear". It can be found in the forges. ^_^

sorry for any confusion.

And a side note as a reminder: you may be in a quest while in this event. So those of you (if there are any) who are in quests and are thinking "I can't participate," well... you're wrong! ^_^

So join up! :D

Harufu-Erubishi - November 15, 2004 07:07 PM (GMT)
I have a question...Is there going to be any weapons other than rapiers for the lancers....?

Derhlith - November 15, 2004 08:07 PM (GMT)
For the lancers? Lancers should be using spears and... lances. lol Along with other polearm-type weapons.

Although for now just use knight swords. Again. That's something I need to talk to Baerholn about. I think he just forgot about the lancers needing polearm weapons. :(

As for cleric and druid weapons: look in the "Staves" section of the armory. You'll find your weapons available there.

Drayco - November 16, 2004 01:27 AM (GMT)
Since armory issues are being talked about here. Maybe a way to earn the gear you borrow?

Harufu-Erubishi - November 16, 2004 02:51 AM (GMT)
Thanks for answering my question...

Derhlith - November 16, 2004 05:22 AM (GMT)
Okay. I got word from Baerholn:

Clerics, Druids, and Mages may all equip the first 2 robes available in the mage-wear section (they're the "basic" ones). They may also wear light foot armor, and all the rings are open to all magic classes.

Clerics and Druids use weapons listed under "Staves"

Lancers *SHOULD* have the spears and stuff, but Baerholn and I are having trouble finding it. Hopefully it will either be recovered or replaced in the near future. ^_^

As for the earning your armor. I will not confirm nor deny that there are any methods to attaining the armor you're renting on a permanent basis. Just have fun in the event and post yer best. ^_^

Harufu-Erubishi - November 17, 2004 04:18 AM (GMT)
Cool...I will just wait to post what I need to rent whne the lances come up....But for now I am not in the best of moods, but I am still tring to finish up my quest...

Drayco - November 20, 2004 03:23 AM (GMT)
I'm so excited. Just ready to open up on some orc and hide from a few trolls. But I do have a slight question. Commander for the Helineth city defenders. Will it be an NPC or one of the lucky Characters.

Derhlith - November 20, 2004 03:43 AM (GMT)
the enemy army (as a whole) and the defenders of helineth will be controlled by yours truly. However, you can request or demand aid in any particular area that you happen to be in if things look dire. If I can I will direct aid to you.

The reason for my controlling the forces is because I don't want to give "free-reign" to the players which could create conflicts. There are only so many soliders to go around, and if one person says that they and "100 soliders" goes off to <this> place to kill <them>, etc. and someone else takes another 200 soliders to <that> place and attacks <things>. Eventually there may be an overextention of troops and one person would end up taking troops from another person to utilize in their own way.

Thusly I'm simply going to act as an NPC and direct them using random chance (aka a dice) or some other method of reasoning that would ensure an unbiased or logical outcome and reaction from said NPC troops. The same reasoning will be applied to the enemy army, so as to keep things "honest" and "by chance" as opposed to me saying, "This guy's really weak. And I wanna mess with him *sends 400 orcs his way + 2 trolls*".

So yeah... I hope that explains it. ^_^

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Crestirem is suggesting something to me atm. And I may go with that. It would involve particular players, chosen by level / renown (renown being decided by character-based attributes. Such as a "valiant warrior" who hangs around towns and cities being more famous than some random wandering mage ( *poking fun at Crest* :P ) ) to recieve a set of "guards". Basically it would be a small number of soliders subtracted from the overall defending army's total who would be dedicated to protecting said character, thus giving said character explicit control of those NPC units that are protecting them.

We'll see what happens when we get closer to the event, though. I'll have to look over character designs and levels and such before I make that decision. ^_^

Crestierem - November 20, 2004 06:12 AM (GMT)
I would like to join, BUT that depends if my net will work by then...Oh well...sign me up anyways, just in case. By the way, a Birds Eye View of the town would be useful...if it's not too much trouble. ^^;;

Harufu-Erubishi - November 22, 2004 06:23 PM (GMT)
Right now I am sorry to say that I am going to be running into a few problems...One is good though the other may not be the best...

First I am going to be moving again, so I think around mid Dec I will not be able to get online....

I will do my best to come on but with moving and beta testing I am having a hard time, with well...TIME...I will be back though to do my best...

Drayco - December 23, 2004 05:44 PM (GMT)
When is it going to start...getting kind of antsy about it. Sorry.

Derhlith - December 25, 2004 07:24 AM (GMT)
Sorry about the delay. The holidays kind-of snuck up on me, and with my friends all in town from college, I think this will be postponed until after the New Year. But it will happen, I just have to scan and upload the new pics (I got a new computer too, just need to put it together)

So look for it after January 1st, 2005! ^_^
