Title: Primaries

Assish Selohssa - January 22, 2004 03:14 PM (GMT)
Who do you people support in the primaries?
I like Edwards. Dean and Clark are demons of stupidity.

Elither Daegovad - January 22, 2004 09:39 PM (GMT)
Political views= Not my catogory.

Alkioth - January 22, 2004 10:58 PM (GMT)
Clarke = Retired General, who taught at Oxford and West Point. He's a Rhodes Scholar, who, by the way, holds four master's degrees, which include philosophy and religion.

Kyo - January 24, 2004 04:06 PM (GMT)
I must say that I agree with Alkioth, Clark is the top Democratic candidate. Doesn't really matter to me anyways, I am a Republican.

Valcrist - January 26, 2004 05:04 AM (GMT)
I haven't yet decided on a favorite, but Dean's firey speech sure was entertaining. I haven't seen the entire thing though, just short clips, so I'm really not sure what to make of it. I can't say that the idea of a president with emotion strikes me as being a negative, so I don't really have a problem with the speech. But, not having heard or seen the entire thing, I don't know if I would agree or disagree with some of what he had to say. Woah, that was a tangent. Um...yeah, undecided.

Tonio Asura - January 26, 2004 02:53 PM (GMT)
First off, I'm gonna say that I lean towards Republican for the presidental races, so try to ignore the SLIGHT bias that is going to be placed into these views.

1) Anybody who votes for Clark is making a vote for an idiot. He has changed his mind on issues so many times that it's not even quasi-funny anymore. In fact, he even changed his mind on the war in Iraq THREE times in 48 hours. You do NOT want to vote for somebody like that. Also, he wants to re-evaluate every death row case. That's expensive.

2) Do not vote Dean either. Sure, we can make fun of him for his red-faced rants and usage of Spanish in Iowa, but that's not the only thing. Among other things, he wants to make our borders more open, he wants to repeal the Patriot act which has caught so many terrorists within our own country, and also wants us to become more engaged with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He also has no clue what in the nine hells is coming out of his mouth.

Do NOT vote for either of those two candidates. Besides political issues, they're complete and utter fools. Dean even had his brother get a military funeral despite his brother ever having served in the military. Also, he himself dodged the draft. Just great. Clark flouts his military experience, but he has a utter lack of common sense that should have kept him as a grunt there. How he got promoted, I have no clue.

Basically, if you have to vote Democrat, vote Edwards or Kerry. If Dean wins, I'm moving to Canada.

Elither Daegovad - January 26, 2004 04:13 PM (GMT)
I'd like to mention at this moment that Canadians and french suck..^_^

Alkioth - January 26, 2004 08:24 PM (GMT)
Yeah, let's not worry about how the US Patriot Act undermines the Bill of Rights. We'll just put that one aside, eh Tonio? :P

Bolindad - January 27, 2004 02:30 AM (GMT)
Hey, I dont care 'bout this right now, am still scared of the last election that happened here.....we hired the Terminator.....I dont know why, but I am still in awe of THAT...did I mention I dont know the diffrence between the 2 partys, so I dont lean towards either? *is one of those guys who will prolly vote once in his life*

Baerholn - January 27, 2004 02:48 AM (GMT)
Actually, I find myself surprisingly ok with how Ahnold's been doing so far. Sure, there are some things I haven't been totally happy with, like the repealing of the car tax. A cut would have made me happy, but completely getting rid of it sucks too much money out of the system. But look at it this way: he said from the beginning he was going to get rid of it, and people encouraged him to do so (not realizing that taxes actually generate revenue for the government). After being elected, he kept his word. He's also kept his word about no new taxes, and while I generally am not tax-friendly, a small tax could help get our economy back on track if the deadweight loss were minimized. So while I don't agree exactly with how he's running things, he's been honest so far. And how many politicians (or actors for that matter) have been honest in our lifetimes? Not too many.

I am a bit peeved about taking money from higher edumacation though...

Derhlith - January 27, 2004 03:32 AM (GMT)
What kinda bugs me is that he didn't cut the car tax, he just put it back at what I call the "boom level" (the level the tax was at during the 90's tech boom). The taxes were ONLY cut back THEN because the state didn't need that extra money. When the "boom" went "bust" the tax was raised back to its original level because we needed to raise more revenue. So he wasn't actually 'helping', it would have been better to leave that where it was and focus on other issues. The only reason that was a target is because it was the most recent bit of legislation that he could point at and attack. And if he was elected saying he would do it, then recoiled his hand and said "no", he'd never get re-elected.

It was a good piece of legislation made at a bad time, thus marking it with the bull's-eye of the opposition's campaign. :(

He should've stuck to movies and groping women.. Hehe.. Groping women.. *Glazed over eyes in thought.*

Bolindad - January 28, 2004 06:01 AM (GMT)
I just dont like the idea of him cutting back programs for M/D people, it's cutting back on Social Rec. programs that they need `~_~.....

Valcrist - January 28, 2004 06:33 AM (GMT)
But see, that's the problem. There was way too much spending under Davis, and now just by touching anything money-related, regardless of what it is, some group of people will be pissed. And though it might make some people unhappy, the only way to fix the budget is to make cuts. It's a necessary evil if we want to stabalize the budget.

...man, that sucks.

Drayco - January 28, 2004 01:36 PM (GMT)
I just have to ask...Tonio, how much do you know about the patriot act? It's an utter joke. It give the government the right to basically spy on you, search, detain and in some cases deport for absolutely no reason. Now, I think that is just moronic. And as for whom I would vote for, I'd say no one. I would rather learn more about each candidate and make my decision from there. And at present time, I won't be able to vote in the next election.

Tonio Asura - February 22, 2004 03:55 AM (GMT)
And today's political update because I don't think I'm posting enough in the General Discussion and I've been reading up on some stuff.

Considering that the two main Democratic candidates are Kerry and Edwards, I find it my firm political duty to say DON'T VOTE KERRY!

Why? Several reasons really.

1) Kerry made major accusations of the CIA, including calling them illegal cocaine traffikers. Just great accusation to make of an agency that had people like John Spann die in action trying to interrogate terrorists like Walker.

2) Kerry voted for the slashing of the Ballistic Missile Defense Research and Development budget by cutting it by 400 MILLION dollars. What makes this a bad thing is that it was 2 days after Iraq invaded Kuwait, using it's missile systems on it.

Those are the reasons of the day.

And I understand that the Patriot Act gives the government a lot more powers that are traditionally considered good and well. However, when you consider that the NSA already has access to that sort of data, it seems an appropriate cost for the wiping out of terrorists from our country. An interesting fact about the Patriot Act is it allows terrorists to be treated as prisoners of war. If you look at the amount of illegal immigrants (5.7 million) and people with criminal records being given visas (at last check over 7 thousand), it seems vital that this act be implemented.

My bit about political views today:

We're fucked. We're better off in Afganistan or Iraq. >.>
