Title: The NEW Art Contest
Description: Disregard the other one...

Divergence - August 26, 2004 02:49 PM (GMT)
Okay, this has been idle long enough!
This time we'll get down to business... I... erm, hope.
Anyway, I've decided to start this up again, I really wanted to make the Divergence t-shirt idea a reality, and it didn't work out last time, but hopefully it will this time! It'll be a bit more strict, so pay attention to the rules, I want only finished works posted.

Guidelines:
  • Okay, this is important. You can use any drawing style you wish! Make it unique! But just remember, .hack//DIVERGENCE is only a fansite, and therefore it would be total and utter copyright infringement if any of you were to use established .hack characters, trademarks, creatures, etc. Trust your own imagination, and definately stick to original art. If you want to use the rpg's name in your art, just use Divergence, without the .hack//. I don't want the site to get into any trouble with Bandai.
  • All submitted artwork must be completely finished and must be CG'ed or at the least very well marker-coloured. It will be next to impossible to get a pencil sketch to transfer onto a t-shirt, nor will it look very good if the colouring is in scratchy mediums such as coloured pencils or crayons. We need fluidity.
  • Your picture does not necessarily have to have a background, it can, but if you don't want to draw one then just submit it on a white or transparent background, or give it a frame and you can have a coloured background. I may have to change some details of the background when I get into the t-shirt making phase.
  • You can make it any Divergence character you wish! Yourself, a friend, a group of players, etc. There's no limit to what your subject matter can be (as long as it's not copyrighted). If you want to draw someone else make sure you ask them, and get their character design right.
  • There won't just be one winner! I want to have a big selection of t-shirts on sale, so we'll probably choose a selection of winners from the submitted artwork. Everyone that get's chosen will get a Divergence prize, and a discount on the t-shirt purchase! (The Divergence prize will be something good, I promise you, but I'm not going to post it until the winners are announced.)

Well that's about it! Post all artwork entries here, in a link preferably! There really isn't a time limit, and winners won't be chosen simultaneously!

Thanks to everyone, and submit that artwork :D!
Any questions? Post them here!

lugiablaster - August 28, 2004 07:51 AM (GMT)
I probably not going to enter, but just a question: Does the drawing have to be a certain size?

Kiara - August 28, 2004 09:16 AM (GMT)
I'm guessing that it should at least be a relatively large image so it can transfer to a larger size better. It would look very tacky if the image were scanned in at 100 x 100 to be enlarged and put on a "canvas" of 1024 x 768 (just examples). The image would come out extremely pixelated and a bit stretched as the original size was squared and enlarged to a rectangular image size. I prefer to work with images that are NO LESS than 800 pixels one direction when printing them off. The bigger, the better I like to say, unless you get it rediculously huge and then it becomes pixelated when shrunk to fit the 8 1/2" x 11" medium (paper size). Basically, just use common sense and make it a decent size when ya scan it.

Agrona - August 29, 2004 01:29 AM (GMT)
I think I'm actually going to enter this time, but a question. Does the character we draw have to exist on the site, or can it be a representation of a class (though that may end up looking like someone on the site). Also, if anyone would want me to draw a pic of them for the t-shirt, just ask. I'd really like some reference... I don't like to just choose characters like I'm playing favorites O.o

My interpretation of the above quote is you can draw whatever you wish. Existing Divergence characters or general characters for a certain class. The only limit to the art submitted is that it can't be specific characters like Black Rose/Rena or Balmung due to the copyright laws.

Divergence - August 29, 2004 02:38 PM (GMT)
Your interpretations are correct Kiara, thanks!

Yes, your drawings can be of anything, it doesn't have to be an existing character, as long as it's original.

And yes, the drawings should be fairly large, think of a regular sheet of paper.

Sasuke - August 29, 2004 05:03 PM (GMT)
This sounds very intrigueing. I think I may take up the pencil again and start drawing. Would it be alright if I were to draw a specific picture just for the AOD, and others like such.

I'm not sure that I am going to enter, but If somewhere in this you find a link to a picture.. well.. consider me entered.

So your making a divergence t-shirt?

Yes, I am ^_^. It'll be available in black, and white- and in tank top, baby tee, and normal tee styles.

SilentEclipse - August 29, 2004 09:30 PM (GMT)
WOW....That would be cool.

*smiles* Well I'm glad that you like the idea! I hope a lot of people do, since the money will go towards the upkeep of this site and main, and to buying a DIVERGENCE domain name and more bandwidth so that subs can reside there as well.

Shikisokuzeku - August 29, 2004 10:22 PM (GMT)
hmm...sounds fun, i haven't drawn in a while so i guess ill give it a shot.

While I would probably get a T-Shirt, what about possibly making one or two of the pictures into posters? THAT would be deffinately something worth hanging on my wall.

Divergence - August 29, 2004 11:12 PM (GMT)
Great idea Ender! I'm actually going to make a selection of merchandise available on demand, such as mouse pads, posters, stickers, etc., you can request it, and if it's possible, it'll be made!

Izumi Kodo - August 29, 2004 11:57 PM (GMT)
OOOO *puts poster of div on wall* that would be sweet....i wish i could draw....do u have any idea how much the t-shirts would cost?

Divergence - August 30, 2004 02:05 PM (GMT)
Hmm, here are the price estimates, these are pretty accurate:

Men's White Tee: $17.99
Men's Fitted Tee: $18.25
Men's White Longsleeve Tee: $22.99
Value T-Shirt: $9.99
Women's White Tee: $17.99 - $19.99 (depending on fit wanted)
Women's Spaghetti Strap Tank Top: $19.00
Women's White Longsleeve Tee: $22.99

Posters: 11" x 17" - $8.00
35.0" x 23.0" - $19.99
20.0" x 16.0" - $16.99

The prices really depend on how big we want the pictures, so we'll see, but I think these are good estimates for now!
Hope that helped.

Kumori - August 30, 2004 02:10 PM (GMT)
I love the idea Gingi. But... um.... where exactly would we buy them? Would you make your own Div-store website? Or something like that?

Oh, and I will try and draw something.... maybe....

Divergence - August 30, 2004 02:17 PM (GMT)
Yes ^_^, there are a lot of merchant sites that let you open your own shop, then manufacture your products for you. They take a percent of the profit, but it's definately the best option.

About the Value Tee on there that's $10. Can you tell me what exactly is the difference between the others?

lugiablaster - August 31, 2004 02:21 PM (GMT)
I'm guessing it's for the people who makes the art. Just a guess.

Divergence - August 31, 2004 04:13 PM (GMT)
Hmm, actually, it's not. I don't really know the difference, those are just the price estimates and products that the company gives me. The prices will probably alter once I actually create the store.

Shugotenshi - August 31, 2004 04:22 PM (GMT)
Hehe, sounds like a great idea! poster and tee for me! oh make coffee mugs with it on it too, and pencils and mousepads! STICKERS! :D

*Shugo cracks her knuckles* i'ma try! I claim i suck at drawin, but this'll be an exception. o.0 what resolution should it be though?

Divergence - August 31, 2004 04:30 PM (GMT)
Hehehe! Anything you want Shugo! The merchant has almost every kind of product available ^_^.

I'm not quite sure about the resolution though, use your judgement.

Raio Drain - August 31, 2004 10:05 PM (GMT)
Oh, I think I'll try a pic....Sounds like a great idea in general. I just make my T shirts with paints and stuff, heh heh. (Takes forever!)

xL337H4X0RM4ST3R - September 1, 2004 03:50 AM (GMT)
If only I could find my pic of a Twinblade that I drew (it was originally my chara, but that is no longer true, as I changed my class to Blademaster. . .) It was my best original drawing, and I don't quite know what I did with it, but even if I did find it, I would need to get a scanner, as mine is shorted out (T_T). Anyway, What is the prize for winning the contest? Merchandise? A shirt with our art on it?

lugiablaster - September 1, 2004 04:00 AM (GMT)
From what I read on the first post, it's a discount on the stuff, along with a rare item. *longs for one  *

EDIT: It's a divergence prize, not a rare item, though the divergence prize could be a rare item. *goes on drooling*

Hacorie - September 1, 2004 05:02 AM (GMT)
Eh, what the heck, i will draw something....but i will have to find a scanner to get it up....dun dun dunnn....*goes to beg parents and/or friends* xD. *Goes to work on after he does all his hmw.....baka school...baka teachers....^^

Akane Lockheart - September 2, 2004 12:24 AM (GMT)
Xo--3 Oh I guess.... I'll try! Don't expect much though, as I tend to suck... : p

SilentEclipse - September 2, 2004 02:04 AM (GMT)
So wheres the place we get our t-shirts?

She'll post it once we finish the contest.

SilentEclipse - September 2, 2004 09:29 PM (GMT)
OK got it

Agrona - September 3, 2004 12:34 PM (GMT)
Okay, I'm going to try and enter, maybe twice. I've already got one pic on the go, but I've got another question:

Is there any end to this contest? Or is it just when you've found enough satisfactory designs?

I need to know because I've got some RL stuff I need to draw, and I need to place a sense of urgentcy vs. not on these pics.

Raio Drain - September 3, 2004 10:24 PM (GMT)

xL337H4X0RM4ST3R - September 7, 2004 06:53 PM (GMT)
YAY, I found my scetch Pad!!! now if only my scanner would work. . .

SilentEclipse - September 8, 2004 09:20 PM (GMT)
Raio Drain, your pic does not even mention Divergence.

Raio Drain - September 9, 2004 05:05 AM (GMT)
I thought it just had to be a character. I can always go back and add Divergence i guess....

SilentEclipse - September 9, 2004 08:32 PM (GMT)
I didn't mean to critisize you or anything.

Kamiyu - September 14, 2004 11:58 PM (GMT)
What?
CG!?
CRAP!
I can't CG!
Marker?
CRAP!
I can't marker! ><
I'm a scratchy artist. I use colored pencils! No fair! But I'll try.
Markers. . . (Has never had luck with markers)
I'd buy a T-shirt, and maybe even a poster, but I share a room with my twin brother.

Ezekial - September 30, 2004 10:55 PM (GMT)
Well, here's my pic I made for this wonderful contest.

This was my first attempt at CG, but I think it turned out pretty good... anyway, the actual pic is only the size of a piece of paper, but the site shows it a lot bigger.

Darkstar - October 2, 2004 01:18 PM (GMT)
oh, crap!! wait for me!!

*draws frantically* :P
