Title: NaNoWriMo 2009!
Locke - October 22, 2009 04:15 AM (GMT)
Alright, so this year's NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is starting soon! In two weeks soon, in fact! So all of you Divvyers signing up, I wanna hear from you guys, see who else is entering!
For those of you who don't know what it is, NaNoWriMo takes place from November 1 to November 30. During this time, you aim to write a 50,000 word or more "novel." Why do this, you ask? What reward is there? Well... aside from a certificate and a web badge... nothing. Well, wait! There's also that sense of satisfaction that says "Hey, look. I wrote a novel!"
Anyway, for those of you interested (or repeat entrants who are going for another year of NaNoWriMo!), visit their website
here for all of the rules, registering an account to keep count of your words, and eventaully upload your final piece! Come one, come all, and let's see all of those brilliant writings!
By the way, for anyone who wants to add me as a friend on there: I'm registered under "Zeichwolf". Hope to see you all there soon!

I'll be trying again this year, and hopefully doing better than I have been the last few.
New story idea in the works, and preferably ready to start by Halloween.
nighthand - October 22, 2009 04:40 PM (GMT)
Oh God NaNo again... @_@
More free time than ever, and less creativity than ever. Great.
Not to mention that if I don't have a job by November, I need to be spending all of that time panhandling...
Sekai - October 23, 2009 12:07 AM (GMT)
Am planning on doing it, may change the name of the novel itself but, nothanks to Takua's jackassery discussion one night, I have something at least semi-planned out. Just need to do some character sheeting and that'll be that.
I'm on there as SekaiRin (real original, right?), add me if you'd like!
Takua - October 23, 2009 04:01 AM (GMT)
Thanks to a sudden burst of inspiration, I'm now trying this out.
Under Takua if anyone wants to add me. Gonna be my first year trying this out, so I don't know exactly how well I'm going to do. Ah well, at least it'll be fun ^^;
nighthand - October 24, 2009 01:22 AM (GMT)
I will actually be registering and probably participating. I probably won't 'win' this year, but meh. Life sucks.
On as Nighthand, same as everywhere else.
Uruvei - October 29, 2009 06:56 PM (GMT)
;_; I hate you, school...
Some year, I will actually do NaNo and get further than 5,000 words.
This is not that year.
Good luck, guys!! Go for it! :D

Greetings from the Indian Ocean.
I'm presently a part of a college abroad program known as the Semester at Sea. On this program, around 500 or so students hop on board a modified cruise ship and set sail for a decidedly unique trip. This ship, the MV Explorer, starts off in Halifax, Canada, and then circumnavigates the globe, stopping at various interesting ports along the way. So far I've been to Spain, Morocco, Ghana, South Africa, Mauritius, and India, and I will be visiting Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Hawaii, and finally San Diego.
This has nothing to do with NaNoWriMo, however; it's just an explanation for why I've been absent from the forums that I love so much. Also, it sort of sheds some light on why I'm going to give this crazy contest a try.
You see, a counselor on the ship has organized a NaNoWriMo club on the ship. We're about 8 people strong, and we're all gonna give it a shot. We're also gonna try to get featured on the NaNoWriMo front page, but that's tangential. Anyways, with limited internet ($50 for 120 minutes) on the ship I won't be able to be a full-fledged member of the NaNoWriMo contest like the rest of y'all, but the counselor is definitely going to get our profiles made, etc.
Anyways, I don't know exactly what I'm trying to say... just that I'm in it to win it, ha ha. This'll be a lot of fun.
See you at the finish line... or not... ;_;

Been tempted, have done so in the past as well. xD
HAVE FUN ON THAT CRUISE TOO!
nighthand - November 2, 2009 02:42 AM (GMT)
Well I'm calling it a night for Day 1 of Nano. Even though it's only 9:40 pm here.
3717 words thus far. Title: A Night in Low Society. I'm making it a solo for Nighthand on Main. Should be interesting.
As usual I started strong. Hopefully not as usual I'll finish strong too. Usually I get almost double the word count every day, and then crap out by day 10.
Raven - November 2, 2009 03:56 AM (GMT)
I haven't started yet, but the night ain't over for me for another 5 hours or so. For mine I decided to ask another rp I'm on to challenge me to stuff, so apparently now I'm doing a Sci-fi Western, Detective story, involving some sort of Gender-bending/cross dressing.
This should be interesting.
Sekai - November 2, 2009 10:46 AM (GMT)
Nights: Write 5,000 words every day for 10 days then? xD
nighthand - November 2, 2009 02:28 PM (GMT)
Basically that. I dunno. Today is gonna be harsh, since I have a job interview in... *checks* two hours, which I'm leaving for in 30 minutes. Then I have a couple hours to write, maybe, before it's nap time. Then Jessie and I may go out to a movie. We'll see.
Wren - November 3, 2009 01:21 AM (GMT)
I'm participating this year, also. My friend has been for the past 3 years and this is the first time i haven't had a job at the same time. Sooo... yeah.
I'm actually sitting AT a write-in right now, procrastinating/marinating. This is the second write-in for the day, and i've been out of the house for upwards of 6 hours doing this. So I'm starting to burn out.
On the site I'm wren86 (I wasn't sure if just "Wren" would be taken, so i flipped in the year there, just in case).
Hopefully I can get out of that awkward beginning of the story and in to the meat of it. Right now I'm not too happy with how it's starting, but if I don't trudge through it I'll never get to the good stuff! :o
nighthand - November 3, 2009 04:58 AM (GMT)
I have on occasion actually just put a spacer in when I'm stuck. Something like
Beginning beginning beginning ugh
-=-=-=-=-
This is where such and such events will eventually happen.
-=-=-=-=-
Continuation of the good stuff.
It's help now and then.
7,123 words when I stopped earlier, and probably stuck there for the night. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.
EDIT: Since none of you have posted today. Broke 10K on day 3. UGH WHY AM I SO CRAZY
Fuzzhead - November 6, 2009 05:09 AM (GMT)
In Vietnam...
... haven't type one single word since I got here...
still at 3.4k....
dammmiiittt
Takua - November 6, 2009 07:17 AM (GMT)
Scary to think that I'm already 1/5th of the way through this.
Just broke 10k words tonight. I don't think it's exactly written in the style of a typical novel...but we'll see, I more or less like it so far, even if things aren't turning out the way that I'd intended them to.
Wren - November 7, 2009 07:34 AM (GMT)
I just broke 11k yesterday, but I haven't had a chance to touch it at all today. Mom's birthday, so I spent the morning... sleeping.
The afternoon... hunting frantically for a gift.
The evening... with family.
The night... with brother A complaining about brother B's upcoming wedding... oh, and drinking.
Now I'm home, and still at just over 11k. Still *technically* ahead of the curve, considering the goal for today is 10,000. I just have to make sure something gets written tomorrow. lol
Fuzzhead - November 8, 2009 07:57 AM (GMT)
*still*
at 3.4k...
...not one word written in Vietnam, although now I'm back on the ship and on the way to Hong Kong...
...will I be able to catch up...?
....or is this the end...?
Sekai - November 8, 2009 10:44 AM (GMT)
Still sitting at 10.1k from a few days ago. Fml.
=\ I need to write and nothing wants to come out. I also need a Male Main Character's name; first name and one that sounds good with "Avalon" as the last name. Something that'll sound good when coupled with the female's name, Seren Mitchell.
nighthand - November 8, 2009 07:07 PM (GMT)
I raced you all to 20K and won. Blargh.
Sekai, does Garbleflux work?
Talal - November 9, 2009 04:17 AM (GMT)
I'm still at 0 K. Of course that would be because I'm not participating. My best wishes to all of you who are for a grand success.
However, I think Joe is a fine name for Sekai's character. =D
Raven - November 10, 2009 08:06 AM (GMT)
Day 10 is just beginning and I only have 2k...
...I was originally hoping to have another zero on that number by this point... I really have to hunker down or I'm going to fail again...
Fuzzhead - November 23, 2009 02:19 PM (GMT)
We were featured on the Nanowrimo Q&A....! Danni Jenkins, Novelist at Sea is us! I'm the goofy guy in light blue.
Edit: I'm ultra egotistical so here's the link!

Stane - November 23, 2009 03:16 PM (GMT)
Really? Can I see? *doesn't know the layout of the site enough to go digging*
nighthand - November 28, 2009 04:58 PM (GMT)
Kay well, that was something anyways.
A Night in Low Society
Stane - November 29, 2009 03:13 AM (GMT)
Gratz man. Anyone else make the finish line? I guess it's kinda early to ask that question :P.
Uruvei - December 2, 2009 05:44 AM (GMT)
Raven - December 2, 2009 05:47 AM (GMT)
I didn't, I gave up at around the 20th when I realized I was killing myself to try and get it all done along with 5 million other things... how is it possible that I was even busier now than when I actually went to school...
