Title: Moive Night?
Description: Anyone???

LoneAngelic - June 24, 2009 07:49 AM (GMT)
Well, for the past day or so I have been converse on the idea of an online movie night? I could possibly, stream live video for you all and we can have like a weekly get together for divvy-ers to chat and enjoy a good movie!

Now, figuring out how to stream, and all is simple. My only real question, is if I do this who would actually want to do it? I would really love to see it roll into action.

So, anyone up? Comments, questions, and/or concerns?

Hmm, my initial thought was to have everyone watch Hulu at the same time, but then I realized that trying to coordinate a lot of people to all start at the same time would be practically impossible. It would have to be a live feed sorta thing, and then if someone had to go to the bathroom or something, they'd just miss out. I don't know exactly how that would work out in the technical aspects, but as far as getting everyone together, an AIM chatroom is probably the best. Still, there are a lot of complications involved - not everyone has AIM, to start, and then trying to find a time that would work for the majority, and trying to pick a movie to watch.....

I'm not trying to say it's impossible, but it'll be difficult to make it work for everyone. Still, if we can figure it out, it could be fun. ^_^ If there's an expressed interest, the best way to go about it is probably to get a survey of when the most people are able to be on, and then say "I'm doing it at this time; if you can come, great." It's easier to get a big group to do something when you lay down the rules and force them to work with it, instead of trying to be really flexible and adapt to everyone. *clan leader experience talking* :P

I think it'd be a fun idea although I think it'd be a huge pain in the ass to accomplish.

lol, the last time I did somethign like this, I was on the phone with a few friends all at once watching an episode of Spongebob. Needless to say, all that was communicated back and forth were scattered har-hars. =3

If you guys figure out something to watch, let me know.

I'm up for Spongebob, where do I sign up?

Fayre - June 25, 2009 12:02 AM (GMT)
It sounds cool, though I note that Hulu will not work for all members. Have some pity for the Canadians!

Blame the US media companies for restricting access, even though their targeted ads are just as effective to Canadian audiences as American.

I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of this event would be, though. Usually movie nights would involve some sort communication and group dynamics about sharing the movie. Maybe it's just me, but that seems a bit harder on an online setting.

Still, I WANNA SEE PATRICK GET SQUISHED! NOW!

Kae - June 25, 2009 01:22 AM (GMT)
Some friends and I used to do this using the DVDs of DS9 eps. It could be entertaining, when we didn't get too absorbed and forget to type

Stane - June 25, 2009 01:23 AM (GMT)
ROFL spongebob antics.

@above comment: Believe me, an IM window/Chat room is alllll you need to make a hilarious show more hilarious. Or in Batman: The Animated Series's case, make a show hilarious.

Kae - June 25, 2009 01:31 AM (GMT)
Oh, I know. :) But it doesn't work if you don't type, yanno?

D: you ninja'd me. I was referring to Shugo's comment >_>.

Kae - June 25, 2009 02:31 AM (GMT)
Hmm. In retrospect... that makes a lot more sense *laughs*

Stane - June 25, 2009 04:37 AM (GMT)
Haha, yeah. :P

I'd think it would be easy to forget to type if you're watching the show on your tv and talking to people with your computer. The times I've done this, it was a computer-computer dealio. Non-fullscreen'd of course, though that's now a possibility with the two monitors I have for this rig :O.

Watorie - June 25, 2009 05:00 AM (GMT)
You forgot to mentino the stream site I mentioned to you wne we mulled this over, I can create an account on a site I know for Divy's movie night's, any Divvyer with the password and a movie on there PC or DVD that there PC can read would be able to work it I believe, then agian I've only seen people use webcams on it and play MP3's over it while dancing on there webcam, but I'm hoing they have the right stuff to allow streaming of a video. The site also has, right in the same window, a chat room for whatever's being seen, everyone watching can see the chat and thus can disscuss the movie.

And just to give it away, don't watch this AWESOME CAKE movie untill further notice, becasue it's what we were planning to show, I shoed it to him lol.

LOVE THIS FILM and I just HAD to share it, and sharing it leads to shairing in turn. but hopfully not to *&Yiimuiti just bashed Watorie over the head with a phone book and yelled, "Don't give people spoilers bubby!"*

LoneAngelic - June 25, 2009 05:37 AM (GMT)
So, there is indeed intrest!

*dances*

Okay, even though as said before..

"This would be a pain in the @$$"

I am going to do my best to get a live feed set up, it's only a bit of re-routing to where the video goes, I just need to find a way to do so..

ALSO! IF IT PULLS THROUGH!

Sponge Bob The Movie will be the first to be viewed!

I actually haven't seen the Spongebob movie yet, so I would be interested in seeing that. Well, we could always just open up a Skype/TeamSpeak server (I know Stane has one that we use =P) and just voice chat through there to make it easier.

*pokes Matt*

Uhh... how are we going to hear the movie if everyone is yellin' stuff? Duh! :P

*personally hates it when people talk during movies*

Buuut... I don't really wanna see the Sponge Bob movie, anyway, so I guess I'll pass on the first one. The only things I really enjoy about Sponge Bob are Plankton and Death Sponge Note Bob.

Watorie - July 2, 2009 02:38 PM (GMT)
Oh yuck, not spunge shits.... T^T that makes me cry at it's foolishness...

something better than that is possible isn't it? answer DEFINATEY!

Anyway, when the movie cue is done I have the most epic and unheard of anime's for feeding. It's actualy on the top fifty best anime of all time list. Fantastic Children! it's... well see the name.

Damek - July 2, 2009 05:52 PM (GMT)
I don't know if you've decided on which program/website to use yet, but ustream would be good. You'd only be able to hear from the one person's computer, but it lets tons of people tune in and out, and Skype or whatever could be used if you wanted to talk talk instead of type.

And ew. Spongebob.

...no?

Kiwi and I do the "start at the same time" thing to watch stuff all the time. All you need is for everyone to be paying attention and for someone to yell "go!" so everyone can hit play all at once.

Which requires everyone to pay attention.

Which just might be too much for this group XD

Yeah, I think it probably would be. There's bound to be someone who's 5 seconds behind, and they'll be whining the whole time about it.

I think hitting start at the same time works fine with two people, and maybe up to four.... but after that, I don't think it'd go too well.

Jpec07 - July 3, 2009 01:33 AM (GMT)
Unless you can figure out a way to do a live video feed. How that would work, though, I'm not entirely sure...

... *blinks* I don't remember having this phonebook... *tosses aside said phonebook* But you shouldn't give spoilers anyway, for anything, Bubbie. And yes, I know that sometimes holding them back can be tough cookies.

But I don't know if everyone here can handle "Suicide Club". If that were to show we'd have to disallow certain age groups, mainly younger viewers, from watching the movie with the rest of the group.

I would have to say that in order for us to watch that, one of the Admin would have to screen it. Unless all of us here are of respectable age for such a movie.
-----------
As for the Spongebob Movie, I'd have to pass. I've grown out of watching that show for some years now. So if I watched it now I'd just be hitting my head on the nearest wall the whole time. Ha ha, owchies.

You may have to poll age groups to see how many people can see certain types of movies. Though I'm most certain that there would not be a showing of anything too adult. Family friendly just may be the way to go, but everyone does have thier own personal tastes in what would be considered "friendly".

But for the lawlz we could always have a "Terrible Movie Month" where such horrors as the live action USA-made "Super Mario Brothers: The Movie" are watched. Or even better, we can have months where we run episodes of anime. Who wouldn't want to watch .Hack?

Or even musicals like "CATS" and "Fiddler on the Roof".
-----------
Some Family Friendly movies I can currently think of are (keep in mind I don't get to see many movies):
My Neighbor Tototro (20th Century Fox version, I can't stand the Disney one), Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Baby's Day Out, The Beatles Yellow Submarine, Poke'mon (... Shut up.), Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Ice Age, The Power Puff Girls Movie, Night at the Museum, Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Not so Family Friendly movies (will likely have to be screened):
Suicide Club (This would have to be screened), Blood: The Last Vampire, Sweet Home / Suito Homu (Japanese Horror from 1989, there is also a game. Here is the trailer as found on YouTube.), Zombie Movies in General, such as Resident Evil and Night of the Living Dead, Repo! The Genetic Opera (Don't worry, it's not dirty. Gory, but not dirty. Other than a few bits of dialogue in the music... This is a screener)

Just hoping this was helpful in a "Let's Watch: ____" sort of way. Because other than that, I've got nothing.

I think I have that movie in my vaults XD. I've also accumulated quite a collection of horrible movies, namely because one of my best friends and his brother have an entire hobby around it. Soooo many bad sci-fi movies (I think the complete works of mystery science theatre and the show after that they did), along with around...I dunno 7-10 horribad zombie fests.

Although I'd be apprehensive to be the one uploading this stream...maybe when I get back to college and after I teach everyone how to use ssh to get a secure tunnel...

EDIT:

WHAT IS WITH ALL THE SPONGEBOB HATE DX??? I love that show and the movie is even more funny. I've had those kind of laughs where you beg it to stop, from that...*sheds a tear for all the ignorant* Who remembers when they both start popping all the bubbles in the bathroom? Classic XD.
