Yes, you're allowed to choose the same one for both top and bottom. Yes, some scenarios may call for the same character being posted multiple times.

Hypothetically speaking, what will be the level cap for "The Greats?" My guess would be >25, but that's a lot of guesswork...

Possibly 30... I think we're aiming for ~8 max per banner.

These are names, right? Not pictures and names. That would get a littttle crowded for my vote: Top=Staff, Bottom=Clan leaders. Plus, you need room to make sure people recognize the purpose and theme of the board before they see a bunch of random names ;P - so that's a decent amount of room dedicated to ".hack//DIVERGENCE."

I think the banner should consist of "the greats." In my opinion, that's the staff and clan leaders - not the highest levels, shopkeepers, or mainplotters (no offense to each group - they've accomplished more than I have). That's just my two-cents though.

EDIT: Oooh, I just got an idea :o. What if we have a section called "achievements" or "trophies" with a neat-looking banner with people in it that have achieved each banner's topic. Like, an "accepted to mainplot" banner with everyone that has done that, and a "broke level 30" banner. "Won a tournament." "Won a contest." "Got 5 levels in one quest."Posted once a day for 10 days." Man, I could go on and on! I'll edit this post with moar ideas :o.

-Beat a tournament winner in a duel or tournament match (ooh hoo hoo would that get bloody for the tourney winners >D)
-Reach level 10,20,30 etc (probably an extremely simple-looking banner for the lower tiers)
-Start and finish a quest taken for no rewards
-Earned 5 achievements (not counting this one, this would be the 6th - and damn. This one would be hard to get)
-Affect a foreign quest (Example - Xan on dante's inferno lighting the whole damn forest in how many threads? Epic)

And it was my impression that they'd be names and pictures. In fact, the running design I've got right now kinda hinges on that impression.

There can be names... I honestly wasn't imagining it with names (except maybe on Clan Leaders, which would be the clan names) but it can have them, as long as, y'know, the picture is there.

Stane... I love your idea, but the problem is, it's hard to agree on The Greats through anything short of a popularity contest or specific rules for it. I mean, the whole site can probably agree on Rayo - the man has two icons based after him - but aside from that, it's either arbitrary or popularity. I'd personally like to have one member from each class up there, but we've got a couple classes that the only representatives... are long vanished last I checked (and by that I mean Fist Fighter and Whipmaster...)

I don't know. There's a lot to consider. And I should probably get to work so I'll figure it out later.

I got reminded of that earlier... sorry bout that. I'm still used to thinking of you as your old class, and thinking of Silk as our only FistFighter.

I like the idea of having a banner that has all of the classes we have, with one character from Divvy chosen to represent each character. So for example, for the Wavemaster, I think Rayo would be a good pick, and then we pick someone to be the Heavy Blade, Blademaster, Whipmaster, etc.

How easy would the banner be to adjust after it's done? Since players come and go, it might be something to keep in mind. The ability to keep it up to date, I mean.

Centrus is also a Fist Fighter and we can make someone up for Whipmaster.

The template I've got is pretty adaptable. Seeing as how the design I came up with only incorporates one character per banner, adjusting it would simply be a matter of making a new background and such.

I've never tried it with InvisionFree but you could always see if it's possible to use the random image generator for the banner at the top. Have a basic banner and then have one for each class/clan or whatever.

Oh! I had no idea it was going to be a rotating thing. That's a very neat idea. It looks good! Is the banner at the top of the forum page going to rotate through a bunch too? I was picturing everyone squished together in one banner, which would be...crowded.

It would seem random to have one generic class member when everything else is a specific player on the site. Generic for all might work better, 'cause that way, there's no awkwardness if someone goes inactive or something. I dunno. I think it'll look pretty either way. -pets the sample-

If and when it becomes a Subplots skin-set, you'll be able to choose the character you want displayed (because IF skins don't support random images).

Whipmaster could be Asura. Not very active anymore, but well known among the older players. Probably the most notorious of the few whipmasters we've had?

My question is, who draws the characters? Right now, I think our active artists are Damek, me, Clearing, and Chase (kinda)?

Who draws them? Whoever we can get to... If we can get one of our local artists to do them, yatta, all the more awesome. Otherwise, I hire my local friend to draw them, and color them myself, like we tend to. We already tagteamed a picture of Kiwi and me a year ago, so I feel like just trying to get a few busts of the Divvy characters done would be no problem at all. Of course, getting a few different artists to do it might be fun too.

If we can narrow "The Greats" more specifically, I wouldn't mind that so much, but my votes were for Generic Classes and Clan Leaders. We do have players of all classes, including Ocara for Whipmaster as well. With all of the abundant talent here, I would think it would be pretty easy to throw together a design team. ^_^;

As for the local artist thing, I wouldn't mind partaking, but I like the idea of having Canon characters, that way there's no risk of people leaving. Though for main, it might be more fun for them to have the greats.

Like I said though, I can always try to get some drawings together. I have not been doing enough art this summer, so it would probably be fun.

Dude, I'm not so sure about that anymore. There are a number of seconds that are Heavy Axes, including mine.
