Title: Which Grey?
Description: A serious question, actually

All the Greys

I'm considering buying a set of these to do traditional work with. I already have myself a set of grey (Faber-Castell) makers that I love to death, and I would like more verity.

So, which grey do you all think looks the best? French, Cool, or Warm?

I'm personally a fan of the cool gray. I don't draw, but the other ones look brownish rather than grayish to me, so I pick the cool ones.

If we're talking monochromatic work I'd prefer the blue tones of Cool Grey over the purple and brown tones of the others.

If we're not then I suppose it all depends on which better suits your needs and/or flavors.

Cool Gray has a blue tint to it. Warm Gray has a red tint to it, and Freedom Gray (or do we not hate the French anymore?) has a purple tint to it. If you're going for the truest "gray" color, go with Freedom Gray. Personally, I'm a fan of Cool Gray, because it looks a lot like slate gray, which is more inviting than the other colors.

I vote warm gray; it's a more versatile color when blending.

I'd say go with the cool grey. It looks most like grey to me.

French Grey, it's French so it's cool.

I would like to point out that buying paint based on specific coloring online isn't the best idea. Most monitors aren't color corrected (wonder why they are so cheap?) So it's not a 1 for 1 comparison. If you have a CMYK color printer however, you could print them off and get a better idea. Depending how serious you are about peculators of colors.

In all seriousness, the French Grey seems to be more true to the term. Cool Grey obviously has the blue tint, and Warm Grey looks fairly unique.

Prisma's cool grey is very blue I find. Like, it wouldn't replace a blue, but it's a little bluer than it shows up on the site.

I chose French, but Prisma's French gray is fairly brown. Brown brown. That's why I like it though.

I think the warm gray is most neutral on paper, but I also HATE it when things have a blue tint and you aren't expecting it. (The cool black goes soo blue when you try to blend it)

I own bits from all the sets, so that's my input, based on personal experience. I think the colours look pretty different on the computer >_< best to go to the store and try at least 2 from each set out off the singles rack at an art supply store. Not sure if you were planning on buying online, but I think you'll want to test 'em first.

I like cool...

^_^ then agian, I'm a freak for blue, so I'm way too biased!

Prismacolor's Cool Grey markers are really, really blue.

Honestly, stick with the Faber-Castell markers or if you insist on a different brand, go with Chartpak markers.

I am doing a summer study at one of the nation's best art colleges and I've gotten to try out all kinds of markers and other supplies, Prisma is honestly not worth the price and it is over rated as a brand. Try Chartpak. (link here!)

Okay so it doesn't feel left out and through my opinion I like Warm grey.
=P

Earth tone grey looks really really sexy if you aren't in a dull environment. Though overhaul of grey is dull if your in environment where its not the color of the walls you look pretty sexy . XD
